Apologies if you got a double post, Patreon was having an issue with the audio file!

Hello and welcome to this bonus ep where we (along with seemingly everyone else in Star Wars) return to Tattooine to settle some unfinished business, claim some territory, and start a family. That's right, it's time to talk about the Book of Boba Fett. And thankfully, Rob will not be satisfied with a simple thumbs up/thumbs down review schema. Instead, he starts us off with three bangers: "Was it fun? Was it good? Did you like it?" Listen to our answers, analysis, and capital F Feelings (plus a little double bonus at the end of the ep), and share your own Fun/Good/Like It rankings below!

Listening to them previewing the Obi-Wan trailer is way different and a little hilarious now, in 2024, having heard their review of Obi-Wan already lol.

David Montes

I was putting off watching Book of Boba Fett, but now I gotta watch it.

Kenneth Elder

Fun: Kinda Good: Sure Like it: Not particularly Edit: Listening to this makes me really hope they eventually get to Star Wars: Rebels.

Sion Roberts

Not listened yet but imo Fun: slightly? Good: at times but overall nah Like it: Yes

Ben

Fun: absolutely Good: yea I would say so Like it: definetly

Hanktastic

This and the The Batman Waypoints will sustain me this week <3

Divya M. Persaud

fun: just grogu’s ears good: just the tusken scenes like it: no

Coreyyy

"Go listen to Don Zacny" Turns out thats a whole waypoints. Im in

Matthew Sampedro

Poor Boba getting one upped in his own show. Mando and Grogu saved the season for me; was really uninterested until they showed up.

Rad Rodge

Fun: in a number of stretches Good: absolutely not Liked it: no, but what I would actually dislike most is if it's an accurate prophecy about future Star Wars stuff

Tom Walker

I need to hear someone talk about this show, it has possessed my mind in some terrible way.

josh nelson

had fun: at times good: nope liked it: not really

Rad Rodge

I honestly think Filoni's personal attachment to the character and desire to assert her relative importance alongside Luke is all the explanation we need for her to be there, I was surprised there was as little of her in the episode as there was

Begemott

Fun: At times Good: It was solidly mediocre Liked it: No, overall I came out feeling more exhausted than ever with Star Wars

lovebug

i don't want to be the bearer of bad news :( but cad bane and boba never interact in tcw or rebels. like i guess we just assume they know each other bc all bounty hunters are friends on space facebook

Matt

To be precise, they were meant to meet in an arc that never released, which culminated in a duel that gave Boba the dent in his helmet and Bane the metal plate he has in Bad Batch/Book of Boba

lovebug

yeah also the space facebook group thing

David Bednar

I think Episode 2 of The Book of Boba Fett is probably the best episode of Live Action Star Wars they’ve ever made; and the Mando stuff hit really, really hard. The problem is that for a lot of this, its absolutely Favreau at his most stilted weirdo space talkiest in the script, and there’s just something about the way Robert Rodriguez directs that flattens out his episodes. Really low lows, but some really high highs too.

Andrew Noakes

Fun: Yeah, overall it's a fun show. Good: Absolutely not, it's a hot mess Did I like it: I liked parts of it, but the parts are fleeting. Episode 2 was the major highlight.

Trevor

Fun: Absolutely, watching the writers try and salvage a show clearly being written by the finance department (must have luke shown for minutes, can band duel will sell toys, PG audience to sell Disney plus) was wild. Good: NO. Trashyest ;) Did I like it: I got to watch a hut rub a gerbil against his neck for the scent. Just for that, I loved it.

Gwen

i'm not gonna lie, from a thematic (and i guess slightly fanservice-ey) perspective, i'm worried about Kenobi. Not gonna list every reason i spotted in the media shown of Kenobi so far, that would take like 3 paragraphs, but one thing that stands out to me is the fact that they use the duel of the fates as part of the trailer. This makes me a little uneasy about how they're going to frame the show, because i thought dual of the fates was meant to be a motif pertaining to Anakin specifically? I get that he is 100% in the show, but the idea of obi wan and Vader meeting in this show makes me very anxious.

Zachary Jurbina

Fun: Yes Good: Only episodes 2, 4, and 5. And 5 should be disqualified for being a Mandalorian season 3 premiere. Did I Like It: No. I really wish the Tuskens didn't get fringed to oblivion. Just very unironic usage of indigenous people dying to help an outsider who "carries on their ways" which really only amounted to him knowing how to use a gaffi stick. Just a very weird show that absolutely refuses to do any character building for the namesake character.

SoSo_Tsundere

Fun: Sure, needed more podracing Good: the parts not directed by Robert Rodriguez Did I like it: Yeah, but I also think Phantom Menace is the most star warsy [ie, best] Star Wars movie, soo...

logan

There's a point in the Pod where Austin says he's interested in the Luke that finds all these Jedi books and kinda bases what he is going to do going forward on those. Only problem is, I'm *pretty* sure in the Last Jedi he tells ghost Yoda that he actually never read the books in the burning tree, because God forbid there is a single serious moment in the sequels without a quip. Edit- also, if they are having issues with how live action Ahsoka is being portrayed now, I cannot imagine how they are going to feel about it after seeing all of Clone Wars and potentially Rebels too.

Sarah Sprague

_Do_ the pikes have spaceships? I'm pretty sure every time they are shown arriving on Tatooine it's the same commercial platform Mando used. I'm assuming they fly business class.

logan

It would be weird if they didn't since they basically own their own systems just like the Hutts do

logan

I think at this point we just have to accept that they are going to fight in this show, maybe even a few different times, and just hope that they can pull it off well.

logan

My main takeaway from this episode is I'm bummed that they didn't get to watch all of Clone Wars before Mando and the book of boba, and I'm kinda bummed they aren't going to get to watch all of Rebels before they see obi wan. I really hope they do Rebels and Bad Batch after they finish Clone Wars, but I could see them stopping after Clone Wars because I doubt they really want to be doing a Star Wars podcast for the rest of their lives.

Rad Rodge

My darker view of this is that it genuinely wasn't written by the finance department, and this is what Favreau and Filoni wanted pretty sincerely

Rad Rodge

I'm very willing to believe Favreau has the creepy idolatrous view of Luke that the show does

Justin Pritchard

Is the Droid that Amy Sedaris's character has actually BD-1 from Fallen Order or is it just another BD unit?

Alex Hambrock

There's another incentive to the digital Luke that they didn't quite get to: Disney absolutely does not want to give an actor with a face and a voice the power of being Luke Skywalker now. An actor like that might be uncomfortably powerful because now Disney needs *that person* for any future project they want to do involving Luke. They can slot digital Luke into *anything* and he can't negotiate for better pay or rights

Christiana Ellis

Personally, I thought it was really fun to have those two characters get to know one another. In particular, in the time period after RotJ when Luke had been able to find the good remaining in Anakin.

Christiana Ellis

The scene that I wanted was having Boba walk into a Mos Espa cantina and be all: "What TF do you mean, 'the Emperor's dead'?" ... "There was a SECOND Death Star?"

Rad Rodge

I share your anxiety on this

Rad Rodge

I mean I recognize that it would be healthier to stop caring about anything Star Wars is doing in live action, but since I haven't managed to stop caring about it, I just feel sad about it instead haha

Rad Rodge

The particular books in the tree were only ever in the tree though, for what it's worth, the Luke of the BoBF time period could've maybe been reading later King James versions of some of the same things but the stuff in the tree is truly ancient stuff that was already on the island when he got there

Trevor

Oh no! That is even worse!

Trevor

Same. Very Same.

Rad Rodge

I mean, I dunno, I *am* also willing to believe we're seeing boardroom decisions. There's something sort of confounding about the way that Mando seems to love having an irreverent grungy time when the Jedi aren't around but tightens up and gets worshipful when they are, but my basic guess is that Favreau is not the first and not the last writer to get freaked out about the preexisting character feeling bigger than the writer is and capable of bossing the writer around, as opposed to how Favreau created Mando and the rest of the crew and feels securely bigger than his own characters

Elemei

mixed feelings on the kenobi trailer. i have faith in sung kang's ability to be hot through all of that but i do miss his beautiful hair

Scotty Jones

Slave 1 was apparently the preassigned name when Jango stole it from a prison, if Star Wars Bounty Hunter is the most recent EU canon

Virtual Marmalade

BRUH DISNEY IS LITERALLY JUST JOYPARK?? ROBOT MARK HAMILL IS JUST HOLOGRAM ARIA FRIENDS AT THE TABLE CALLED THIS SHIT IN COUNTERWEIGHT??

rev jamie

Fun: Yes (8) Good: Meh (5) Like it: I guess (6) Boba Fett was a lot of fun to watch, but I think it was hurt by a lot of little details. Most importantly, as much as I love Mando and Grogu, I think to have that arc there was a mistake because we should have gotten character development for the Mods, Fennec, and Boba himself. Instead we just peaced out to Mando doing his thing. The Mando arc was probably the strongest set of episodes overall which... is frustrating because I wanted Boba Fett to be better than it was.

Nathaniel Breiter

If anyone is interested, Black Krrsantan is a character with all sorts of history. He’s a part of some of Marvel’s better comic runs. Notably Dr. Aphra

Patrick Kay

I just want to give a special thank you to Austin whenever y'all start talking about stuff in Rebels or Solo you haven't seen yet and he says "We'll get there, we'll get there."

Rad Rodge

Uggggh that magnificent Gillen run on Darth Vader too, like, don't necessarily read that one for more Krrsantan tales as such but Krrsantan IS around haha

Blastoise_M

Been loving the podcast, and subbed to the patreon as soon as I saw this was available. I'm so stoked to listen, keep up the great work, y'all!

Gwen

MOOD. I can't seem to fight off that urge either. like I'm so freaking interested in the ideas that star wars puts out, but am so gutted with the delivery like 90% of the time. And like, I try really hard not to treat it as though I know or could do any better, but there are some beats that happen throughout this franchise that feel way too terrible to not notice.

Gwen

I absolutely loved the second episode too. I'm 1000% not qualified to say that its because it is parallel with maori tradition and culture, but on some level you can see that Temuera is having fun with the concepts present in the episode, and I cherish those moments where he is visibly enjoying himself. Big energy during the traditional dance at the end of the episode.

Gwen

I've gotta assume its just another unit of the same make. That being said, Star wars suffers so often from never expanding on its own universe because of George Lucas (and now Favreau, Filoni and Disney) being too terrified to create any new story without very explicitly - and often ham-fistedly - linking it back to a person, creature or concept from the original or prequel trilogies. And it often doesn't land. Big exception is Cad Bane in BOBF but then they pulled a hard 180 and just killed him off. It's frustrating for so many different reasons, and the only constructive conclusion i can come to is that Disney only ever pays attention to the loudest and lowest common denominator.

Gwen

QED; Disney be scummy af

Gwen

'Lord Vader died during something called the battle of Endor?? oooiii.... glad i got the f*** outta dodge on that one.' Damnit so many good moments of realisation that we just will never get. :(

Gwen

Man has the patience of a damn sloth and i am absolutely appreciating it.

Gwen

My issue is that, until recently, I thought Favreau was a very good director and storyteller. But the more i look at the stuff he makes, such as his run in marvel movies and other IP he's directed for Disney, I keep seeing that he has been spearheading this charge of films that not only limp to the barn with rushed advances in technology that dehumanises the film making process; but he also has very problematic views of how character development should work (especially for masculine characters). It's unfortunate because, for the most part, I enjoyed Mandalorian. It was one of the only things that got me excited for anything new coming from star wars. Also, ngl, the jedi need to be put in their place sometimes.

Rad Rodge

I sort of have the opposite objection since the Disney sale haha, you're describing my objections from the George era but to me the JJ movies and, increasingly, the Favreau shows instead represent generally well-executed delivery of incredibly shallow and reactionary ideas

Rad Rodge

(I think much more highly of The Last Jedi and Rogue One, but of course The Last Jedi has now been pretty viciously disavowed, hard to believe that the thinking which permitted those movies is going to come back)

Gwen

dood, Rogue One is literally one of my favourites! I both get and don't get the hate that people have for it. It depends on the reasoning, obviously, but Rogue One has always struck me as a departure away from the happy-go-lucky 'this couldn't possibly go wrong' space adventure that star wars so often becomes. I get it, that's pretty much what star wars has always been and i understand thats a large part of why people liked star wars to begin with. I guess I just like my grittier and darker films like Rogue One and Dune. :P

Kzinssie

The thing about CGI Luke that fucks me is that Hamill isn't involved AT ALL. Like he's still an actor, and specifically a voice actor, if he came on and did Luke and tried to make himself sound like 10 years after RotJ they could do some makeup and digitally age him down and it would probably look great. Why?

Kzinssie

Grogu should have had to carry Luke on his shoulders

Kzinssie

The stuff with the mayor's assistant guy worked for me because my favorite parts of this show are the parts where it feels like Boba is literally teaming up with characters from like 8 completely different Star Wars shows. You've got the workplace sitcom guy, you've got the stone-cold Wookie action guy, you've got the cyberpunk guys, you've got the Western guy, you've got The Mandalorian from The Mandalorian, that stuff all worked for me.

Addison Hoff

This podcast has consistently made all the best hot takes I’ve ever heard anyone make where Star Wars is concerned. And this bonus content is no exception. But, how y’all gonna even do my boy Danny Trejo so dirty by not even giving him an honorable mention?

FreiGuy

He was actually involved in filming both the Mando season 2 finale, and the Book of Boba Fett stuff. You can see it in the Gallery series on Disney plus.
