Hello and welcome to the July 2023 edition of A More Civilized Q&A! Today, we answer your very most important questions: What kinda gadget would we add to our lightsabers? What's the point of an Inquisitor? What is a Jedi? Was Lando trying to fuck Chopper?

We also talk a little about our pivot away from Rebels in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA and the WGA, which we'll have more to say in our next main feed episode—a special deep dive into the ongoing pair of strikes with a special guest!

Ross Disney

As a High Republic fan I did a double take when Austin mentioned adding a little Leveler to the utility lightsaber

John Bradley

Hera is small black coffee, Kanan is we have food at home, and every other one of them is McDonalds McDonalds McDonalds

Alex Langley

I hate to point out... ET's species is canonically part of Star Wars. They're in the senate during the prequel movies.

TriangleDelta

You know Kanan likes trying the spiciest novelty snack at each gas station

saturn

i am making my first ever comment just to say there is nothing wrong with the melted honeybun its delicious and quite frankly i thought this podcast was much more open minded than this. while i will be maintaining my subscription for now, yall are on thin ice.

tobias

Natalie on the pez dispenser lightsaber thing

DestructoDiscman

I wish I had listened to this episode before typing Star Trek and Legend of Galactic Heroes in all caps on the survey. I appreciate the clarification though (and solidarity of course). This just means it's Farscape's time to shine

Nathan Roberts

Sorry but Zeb and Kanan are big barbecue guys and grill whenever they get a chance

Nathan Roberts

They get mad at Ezra for cutting the fat off his nerf steak

Molly Weinberger

Sorry, but Saw did absolutely nothing wrong in Jedi Fallen Order. He liberated a factory of Wookiee slaves then called for a retreat when Imperial reinforcements were arriving. How would getting everyone killed by engaging in an unnecessary and unwinable battle have helped? Instead he left behind a smaller group of Partisans to organise the Wookiee resistance, escape detection and then continue low-level insurgency when the heat dies down.

Tygre

Given the indeterminate nature of the strike, it's probably better to stick to one-offs or short series for any "filler" content. That is unless y'all decided to do Farscape, in which case take all the time you need.

A Big Old Skeleton

I don't remember what I suggested for you as a replacement but nothing says "short, digestible, and non-struck work" quite as well as Chainsaw Man, eh? You could even just do the anime instead of the manga if you want something shorter! Everybody wins! Especially me, who thinks more people should be talking about, reading, and watching Chainsaw Man! It's good!

Kzinssie

I bet when Chopper tells the story of his time with Lando he says Lando was trying to fuck him tho

Bryan Hansen

i got excited when they talked about rebel assault at the end because I had those games as a kid, and the tie phantom is a very cool idea.

Daniel Stefanidis

I think Kanaan is one hundo percent a gas station sushi buyer. He's the guy who says "No way, I need a real meal, even if it's for sure going to absolutely ruin my guts." Always gets suspicious chicken or a prepackaged sandwich.

Emily Prechtl

Kanaan is a jerky man. Hera tries to get him to try mushroom jerky but he spits it out

present

I audibly said “jerky” when Zeb was brought up seconds before Rob pronounced Zeb a jerky guy.

Is there a Patreon tier to like jump to the front of the line for suggesting a work to be read and discussed? Either here or on one of the other shows y’all do? I want to get your takes on David Drake’s stories where he’s trying to deal with his demons from Vietnam, particularly since Star Wars is Lucas also trying to grapple with the Vietnam war

Begemott

"Jedi are... a social category." I was so ready for Austin to say the Game Studies Study Buddies tagline....

John Jennette

Here to propose C1-DO (see-wondo) for the Lando/Chop ship name

Frank Garcia

You guys can always focus on the canon novels i.e. High Republic, Aftermath, etc. Great one off and way to shamelessly promote your patreon

beans

interesting hearing about bluesky as someone who hasnt been able to get in tbh

@NotInventedHere

Rob's exclamation "Oh my god it's all still in my head!" was hilarious because I have the same issue.

I'm Podcast Rick

Just resubcribed bc the Conover/Union episode was that good. Also, I don’t love Clone Wars/Rebels so I’m very on board for KOTOR or Cal Kestis Saga

Qax

Extremely into a Kotor playthru, I tried multiple times to play it but the aged gameplay was always a bit too much. I think with this book club format tho, i and many others will actually have a good enough reason to experience the entire story!

Thursday Garreau

Incredibly pleased that both “Who is Satele Shan?” and “She was Bastila Shan’s daughter” were the name of the The Old Republic MMO channel in our Discord at different points in the past, years ago now, after hitting identical beats in a call ourselves. Excited for KOTOR brainrot, hopefully!

Sam Humleker

Ironically I switched to a pirated version of Rebels months ago because the Disney+ player kept on bugging out on me, making it more convenient to simply pirate it.

Girard

Apparently the Singapore studio that actually animated most of Clone Wars is being shut down by LucasFilm. It may be a good idea to give some time to acknowledging these folks who don't appear on Filoni Zones and who don't have access to any of the union protections American creatives are currently striking for.

Emily Prechtl

Re: today’s announcement ep — You have no idea how vindicating it is to hear that Austin and Ali are KAIDAN GUYS. Gonna have to scrap the whole kotor plan so we can do a deep dive into this asap 🫡

George

Late reply but big mood hahaha
