The el’in are a race of bipedal fey that descend from creatures of the fey realms that interbred with akashic beings. Despite their distant lineage from their akashic outsiders, they can still naturally tap into the essence that lingers in their bloodline.
El’in trace their descendancy from two groups of fey, those of the Summer Court and those of the Winter Court.
Moonlight el’in descend from the chaotic fey of the Winter Court, and have bodies adapted to a life in those cold lands of little light. These el’in are shorter in stature, with pale skin and hair. Their lineage allows them to wield the powers of the Ephemeral Elk, an akashic being that mingled with the moonlight bloodline in ages past.
Sunlight el’in descend from the lawful fey of the Summer Court, and have bodies adapted to those lands of endless light and warmth. These el’in are taller than their moonlight brethren, and possess flushed skin and darker fair. Their lineage allows them to wield the powers of the Elderwood, an akashic being that mingled with the sunlight bloodline in ages past.
Finally, there is a third subtype of El’in, rarest amongst the three: Twilight el’in. These rare el’in are the result of a breeding between a moonlight and sunlight el’in, and feature traits of both their parents. Their hybrid lineage provides them a vigor seen by neither of their parents, but the mixing of akasha from their two bloodlines causes them a loss in the ability to wield both.
Physical Description:
El’in vary from five to eight feet tall, depending on their subtype, with long thin limbs. All subtypes of el’in possess horns or antlers, and their lower legs end in cloven hooves. An el’in’s eyes are a solid color with very little sclera, most often black but sometimes a solid green, brown, or dark blue. El’in mature, grow, and learn much faster than other races. El’in pregnancies last approximately three months, and their children can walk within days of being born. El’in reach physical and mental maturity at about fifteen years of age. Unlike their fey ancestors who were born within the fey realms, the El’in live short lives.

Society:
El’in usually congregate in small groups, though as individuals many El’in have trouble staying in one place for extended periods of time. El’in societies are normally led by skilled veilweavers, guiding their followers as both spiritual and political leaders.
These congregations of el’in are usually of a single subtype, though it is not uncommon for congregations of moonlight and sunlight el’in to come together for specific festivals, to protect their ancestral homelands, or to defend an entrance to the fey realms.
Around places of power connected to the fey realms, moonlight and sunlight el’in frequently mingle, which is most often the source of the rare twilight el’in.
Twilight el’in are often shunned or treated as outcasts by their societies due to the severance of their akashic bloodline, often forming small and isolated tribes far from the influence of their akashic kin. Amongst the el’in communities, they are accepted most often amongst congregations of mixed el’in.
Relations:
El’in care little for those who cannot, or will not, wield akasha. Outsiders are most often treated with hostility, and rarely curiosity. A people attuned with the magic and nature of the world, they often get along well with druids and rangers of other races, despite their usual lack of akashic talents. The el’in protect their lands, and will defend known entrances to the fey realms vigilantly from outsiders who would wish to intrude on their sacred homeland.
Alignment and Religion:
The alignment of el’in are influenced by their fey ancestry: chaotic for moonlight, lawful for sunlight, and neutral for twilight.
El’in have little concept of religion, though they do treat the fey realms as a sacred place. Their stories speak of the fey realms as a holy place, one that if they return to they would never be able to leave. Whether this claim itself is a fanciful tale or has a grain of truth is of much debate amongst those who study the el’in and their history, though reports of el’in that have entered the fey realms and returned are few in number, and none of those who returned did so of their own free will.
When an el’in nears the end of their life they will seek out an entrance to the fey realm so that their essence can rejoin that of their akashic ancestors.
Adventurers:
El’in are a short lived race and from a young age are encouraged to leave their settlements on a quest of personal growth and discovery. Some choose to use this time to meditate on their lives and the energy around them, becoming scholars and veilweavers, while others use this opportunity to explore their ancestral homelands. A rare few suffer from an unquenchable wanderlust and desire for exploration, venturing forth into the outside world.
El’in are so rare outside of their homelands that they are often misidentified as strange elves, or as a variety of satyr.

Racial Subtypes
El’in are born as one of three subtypes: moonlight, sunlight, and twilight.
Moonlight and sunlight el’in are the most common subtypes, descendants of the fey of the Winter and Summer Courts. Twilight el’in are offspring of mixed parentage between moonlight and sunlight el’in.
Moonlight El’in
These el’in descend from the fey of the Winter Courts. They are often meeker than their sunlight counterparts, but they possess an intense force of will and motivation.
Moonlight el’in have sweeping antlers and cloven hooves resembling those of an elk, pallid skin tones, and pale hair. Descendants of the enigmatic Winter Court fey, moonlight el’in do not trend towards evil or good, but their Winter Court blood pulls many towards a chaotic alignment. Settlements primarily made up of moonlight el’in usually have few formal rules, most designed to protect the community and benefit each other. Moonlight el’in often have a strong sense of community, and a community formed by moonlight el’in will usually welcome outsiders with curiosity. Moonlight el’in are influenced by their ancestors who often lived in lands of intense cold and scarce food, and tend to value the lives and successes of their communities more than their own personal achievements.
- Ability Score Racial Traits: Moonlight el’in are humble and nimble, but frail in form. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom, and -2 Constitution.
- Type: Moonlight el’in gain the akashic subtype.
- Akashic Bloodline: Moonlight el’in have a natural connection to the akashic and gain 1 point of essence.
- Darkvision: Moonlight el’in can see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.
- Light Sensitivity: Moonlight el’in are dazzled in areas of bright sunlight or within the radius of a daylight spell.
Moonlight el’in gain one of the following three abilities. Once this choice is made, the ability cannot be changed.
- Born in Darkness: Some moonlight el’in are particularly adept at existing within the blackest of nights and the darkest of forests. The range of their Darkvision is increased to 120 feet, and the moonlight el’in can move their full speed while using Stealth without penalty while in an area of low-light or darkness.
- Descendent of the Ephemeral: Some moonlight el’in have a particularly strong connection to their akashic ancestors and may shape the Antlers of the Ephemeral Elk veil. This veil does not count against their normal limits on veils shaped, or their veil slots. They use their Wisdom modifier as their veilweaving modifier for this veil, and their character level as their veilweaving level.
- Scion of Growth: Some moonlight el’in are blessed with the Winter Court’s ability to enhance the growth of plant life for their communities, which allowed their fey ancestors to survive the harshest of winters. Twice per day, the moonlight el’in can cast goodberry as a spell-like ability, using their character level as their caster level. Rather than requiring berries for this ability, they touch a single living plant and cause it to sprout the berries produced by the spell.
Alternatively, they can expend a daily use of their goodberry to touch a single plant and cause it to instantly grow as if it had grown a number of months equal to half the moonlight el’in’s character level (minimum 1).
Sunlight El’in
These el’in descend from the fey of the Summer Courts. They are often more beautiful and forceful than the others of their kind, but often fail to think of the lives of those less fortunate than them. Sunlight el’in have curled, graceful horns and cloven hooves formed of polished wood, flushed skin tones, and vibrant hair. Their hair and horns often grow sweet-smelling flowers in direct sunlight, and the skin of their shins, forearms, and hands often has a texture and appearance resembling polished hardwood. Descendants of the enigmatic court fey, sunlight el’in do not trend particularly towards either good nor evil, but the blood of the Summer Court flowing within their veins pulls them towards a lawful alignment. Sunlight el’in prefer the beauty of others of their kind, though they are also often found in positions of leadership amongst communities of mixed el’in. Sunlight el’in are more individualistic than their moonlight cousins and value beauty and strong personal attributes highly. Communities composed primarily of sunlight el’in are places of beautiful artwork, rigid laws and individualistic expression.
- Ability Score Racial Traits: Sunlight el’in are forceful and beautiful, but quick to react and slow to change their opinions. They gain +2 Strength, +2 Charisma, and -2 Wisdom.
- Type: Sunlight el’in gain the akashic subtype.
- Akashic Bloodline: Sunlight el’in have a natural connection to the akashic and gain 1 point of essence.
Sunlight el’in gain one of the following three abilities. Once this choice is made, the ability cannot be changed.
- Bloom Tender: Some sunlight el’in have a particular attunement to plants and growth, allowing them to shape them to their whims. They can shape wood and plants as if using wood shape as a spell-like ability two times per day, using their character level as their caster level. The sunlight el’in uses their Charisma modifier when determining the DC of their wood shape.
Alternatively, they can expend a daily use of their wood shape to touch a single plant and cause it to instantly grow as if it had grown a number of months equal to half the sunlight el’in’s character level (minimum 1).
- Descendent of the Elderwood: Some sunlight el’in have a particularly strong connection to their akashic ancestors and may shape the Vines of the Elderwood veil. This veil does not count against their normal limits on veils shaped, or their veil slots. They use their Charisma modifier as their veilweaving modifier for this veil, and their character level as their veilweaving level.
- Scion of Beauty: Some sunlight el’in are truly a scion of beauty amongst their race. When a scion of beauty interacts with non-hostile el’in for the first time they improve their starting attitude by one step. Additionally, they gain the Signature Skill feat, applied to either Bluff, Diplomacy, or Intimidate. They gain the bonus for having 5 ranks, even if they do not have 5 ranks in the selected skill.
Twilight El’in
Born from the union of a moonlight and sunlight el’in, these children of twilight are quite rare. Twilight el’in look like a strange fusion of their parents, they have large, thorned, wooden antlers, and are both strong and nimble. Their eyes, hair and skin usually fall within the middle of their parents' tones. Sometimes they develop striking and odd colorations, such as striped skin or hair. Unfortunately the mixing of their parents opposing bloods has corrupted their connection to the akasha of the fey realms, and many of their society view them as second-class citizens at best, or twisted aberrations at worst. Sunlight el’in often view them as horrific aberrations of the natural order, and the pity of the moonlight el’in drive many of the twilight away in shame. The mix of chaotic and lawful leanings within the twilight el’in sometimes causes instabilities in their personality, though many learn to balance their urges and trend towards a neutral alignment.
- Ability Score Racial Traits: Twilight el’in are both strong and nimble, but the forces opposing in their blood, and their societies treatment of them, often causes them issues of will and resolve. They gain +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, and -2 Wisdom.
- Lesser Darkvision: Twilight el’in can see perfectly in the dark up to 30 feet.
- Akashic Severance: Twilight el’in are severed from the powers of akashic. They can never shape veils, have a veil shared with or shaped on them, or gain points of essence. Their bodies' natural aversion to akasha does provide them a benefit however, granting them Essence Rejection as a bonus feat.
Twilight El’in gain one of the following three abilities. Once this choice is made, the ability cannot be changed.
- Ferocious Form: These twilight el’in have oversized thorned horns and powerful legs, seemingly more akin to a great stag than el’in. The twilight el’in gains a primary gore natural attack, and two secondary hoof natural attacks that deal damage appropriate for their size (1d6 for the gore, 1d4 for the hooves for a medium el’in). If the el’in makes a gore attack as part of a charge, their gore natural attack has its damage die doubled (2d6 for a medium el’in) and they increase the damage added by their strength score to 1.5x (or 1x if used as a secondary natural attack). This ability otherwise functions as the powerful charge universal ability.
- Hybrid Tenacity: The hybridization of winter and summer fey blood within the twilight el’in causes some of them to have much greater durability than others of their kind. They gain Endurance and Toughness as bonus feats.
- Powerful Build: Some twilight el’in grow much larger than either of their parents, often much larger than what is normal for their race, allowing them to treat themselves as one size category larger in regards to combat maneuvers and the size of weapons they can wield.

New Akashic Veils
The following veils are most often used by el’in as part of their racial abilities, however they can be selected and shaped normally by any veilweavers who know of them.
Antlers of the Ephemeral Elk
Descriptors: Teleportation
Class: Daevic, Guru, Nexus
Slot: Head
Saving Throw: Will (see text)
Mighty antlers of shifting and twisting akasha burst forth from your scalp, allowing you to twist through space to strike your enemies like the elk that is their namesake.
Shaping this veil grants you a primary gore natural attack that deals 1d8 piercing and bludgeoning damage (1d6 for a small creature). When making an attack using these horns, you may teleport 5 feet as a free action before making the attack roll. Since you use this teleport before your attack roll, you can use the teleport to move into reach of your target.
Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil the distance you can teleport is increased by 5 feet, and you gain a +1 insight bonus to attack and damage rolls made with the gore attack granted by this veil.
Chakra Bind (Head): Binding this veil to your Head chakra allows you to teleport yourself and your target when you strike them with your akashic horns. When you hit a creature using the gore attack granted by this veil, you may force the struck creature to make a Will saving throw. If it fails, you may teleport the struck creature up to 5 feet (+5 feet per point of essence invested in this veil) to a point of your choosing. After the creature teleports, you teleport to a square adjacent to the struck creature of your choosing. If this teleport would place the creature in a hazardous location (such as in the air, into dangerous terrain, or into a harmful magical effect) they gain a +4 bonus to their saving throw.
Vines of the Elderwood
Descriptors: none
Class: Daevic, Nexus, Radiant, Vizier
Slot: Feet, Wrists
Saving Throw: see text
Bands of akasha in the shape of thorny vines wrap around your extremities, granting you the ability to subtly manipulate plants around you.
Shaping this veil allows you to move through undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, tall grasses, and similar terrain) at your normal speed without taking damage or suffering any other impairments. Such terrain that has been created by magic or manipulated by magic still affects you, but you gain a +1 insight bonus to AC and saving throws against those effects.
In addition, you never leave tracks or a trail when moving through undergrowth, and you gain a +2 insight bonus to Stealth checks in undergrowth.
Essence: For each point of essence invested in this veil, the bonus to AC, saving throws, and Stealth checks granted by this veil increases by +1.
Chakra Bind (Feet): Binding this veil to your Feet chakra causes you to emit an aura that causes plants to erupt with life. When you have at least 1 point of essence invested in this veil, you gain a 60 foot radius aura that causes non-magical plant life to grow spikes and impede your enemies. Enemies within this area treat all squares of plant life within the aura as difficult terrain. When an enemy begins their turn in the area, they must make a Reflex saving throw or become entangled until the beginning of their next turn and take 1 point of piercing damage and 1 point of bleed damage per point of essence invested in this veil. They are not rendered immobile by this entangled effect, but cannot leave the area of affected plants while they are entangled by it. Plants that leave the aura return to their normal shape and stop entangling creatures, and creatures who leave the aura while entangled are no longer entangled by this bind effect.
Chakra Bind (Wrist): Binding this veil to your Wrist chakra allows you to project thorny vines of akashic energy to entangle and snare enemies. As a standard action you can cause thorned akashic vines to sprout from your wrists and entangle a single creature within 90 feet. The creature must make a Reflex saving throw or become entangled for a number of rounds equal to your veilweaving modifier.. These vines restrain the entangled creature and immobilize them. A creature using wings to fly who is affected by this veil gains a +4 bonus to their saving throw against this effect, but if they fail they also fall. At the beginning of each of the entangled creatures' turns they take 1d6 piercing damage, plus 1d6 points per point of essence invested in the veil. As a standard action, the entangled creature can attempt a Strength check or Escape Artist check with a DC equal to the veils DC to escape the vines.
Monster Classes
Moonlight, sunlight and twilight el’in have access to the following monster classes. A monster class must be taken as the character’s initial level, if they choose to do so. Afterwards, the character can multiclass freely between their monster class and other classes. Common el’in, and those who choose not to specialize in a class, have their first levels in their respective monster classes rather than levels in normal NPC classes. When taking levels in a monster class, the el’in treats their monster class and one other class as their favored classes.

While they have their Antlers of the Ephemeral Elk shaped, the moonlight el’in can teleport 5 feet, plus 5 feet per point of essence invested in the veil, as part of their movement made during a move action. The el’in needs line of sight and effect to their destination. This teleportation provokes attacks of opportunity, counts against their movement for the round, and cannot exceed their remaining movement distance for the action. It can be performed at any point during the movement. For example; if the el’in has a movement speed of 40 feet, and teleports 15 feet using this veil, they can only move an additional 25 feet as part of that move action.
