UPDATE 2025-06-16: Hello everyone, it's come to my attention that there's a business that has registered the name "Pet Rock" as their own copyright in the UK. They are reporting Etsy listings and taking down many Blob Rocks. I believe there are many issues with this tactic since the original copyright is long expired and should be in the public domain. I am seeking legal assistance to hopefully resolve this. That being said, I would advise you to remove any instance of "Pet Rock" in your Etsy listings and photos. I apologize for the inconvenience. The classic pet rock is back and redesigned as Blobs! There are 5 different rock types: original, mossy, sitting, layered, and geode. Print them in different colors for thousands of variations! Each one comes with a pet rock blind box that folds up. You can even add some purge filament as packing material! There's also a display stand for added blind box fun. This design can be printed in multicolor or as parts. Features- print in parts or multicolor- folding pet rock box, including one without a label- same eyes used on all 5 rock types- prints without supports- exclusive display stand for Patreon membersRock Types- original- sitting- mossy- layered- geode

Instructions

- .12mm layer height recommended for high quality- 3+ perimeters recommended for strength- print without supports except normal supports recommended for the moss if printed as a separate piece- print all rocks on their feet- swap colors on the layered rock for added effect- eyes snap into head, use superglue if too loose, scale parts or adjust X-Y compensation if needed- glue on crystals and moss- fold box and attach the corner by sliding the slot over the tab, insert the box bottom and press firmly so it is flush, use superglue if needed- box flap hinges can last for 100+ openings if using PLA- 3MF files are for color information only, print settings may need to be adjusted

I don't have a hard rule, but I recommend using your own photos since you may use different filament and print settings than me. Plus I will happily repost original photos on social media so you can gain exposure.

one more row of boxes on the stand, and we can put one row of each rock in a box, with the rock ontop identifyiong which is in the box. Perhaps also smaller stands, that fit 1 row of pet rocks, and 1 row of boxes, for a complete personal collection...

hmmm, if the filament is old or not dry it could be brittle, I haven't seen many breaking boxes, if you can share some photos in the member chat we might be able to help

Anyone got tips to print? I am having adhesion issues anytime I try and print more than one rock at a time. Using a Flashforge Adventurer 5M with PLA. I have tried the glue that came with it, increasing bed temp, changing z axis offest to -.2. any print setting help would be appreciated

I suggest using a brim if it’s not sticking, a lot of people seem to be using the cryo grip or cool plate for their bambus which seem to be very good, maybe there’s something similar for yours

When it comes to Z-OFFSET, the NUMBER THAT WORKS is the correct number. Use this drill, to help understand how it works, and dial yours in: https://youtu.be/veZB415QHM0 SMOOTH PEI is the best bed, for adhesion. When using glue, use VERY LITTLE. Keep in mind, glue is often used, to help REMOVE models, rather than hold them. The most important thing, is that your bed is CLEAN. If you are using GLASS, use some quality Hairspray. Just a little. CLEAN BED is most important. Slow your 1st layer down. Make it VERY SLOW.

I turned the model so that the movement of the plate doesn't affect it as much. I also added a brim. So model is standing facing side of machine.

I am having the same issue as Karen. I printed a batch last night and they are letting knocked off the plate before finishing. I have a flash forge 5, with the standard plate that comes with them. I have tried using a brim, I have increased my plate temp, slowed first layer and am still having the issue. Any other suggestions here?

I printed the box and it is incredibly well designed. Very fun piece. My first pets are printing now. I would love to see one more pet rock with a dinosaur fossil (bone, tooth, etc.) embedded in its back.

Try decreasing the temp to 210C and 50C bed, also slow the entire print down.

In the slicer on the preview, slide the side bar down to the layer height you want, then right click and add a color with an AMS or pause the printer to swap manually

These are cool, but after testing these, they are dangerous. After limited bending the flaps eventually break, leaving the edges as sharp as a knife. These are not safe.

you need to use the paint bucket tool and paint the letters or use the CMF file which has the color information

I just printed my first rock body! They are adorable. For some reason though, my Bambu Lab P1P says that I have to add support to print the body due to the eye sockets when standing. Is there a way to avoid this? I am still pretty new to 3D printing.

I'm not the 1st to have the problem. The other person printed them in tpu as a work around. I have printed in pla, petg, and petg-cf. I figured petg would be the better choice. It's random so far, I had 1 snap after a dozen bends and others after 30 or so.

Me too! I've tried adding a brim and still after they're about 90% printed they start popping off the plate. I've tried printing around 5 plates, all the same results except the sitting ones. Ugh!

i got 3 on. Slice the file to separate the bottom and you can manually arrange it with the purge block too and it will fit 3.

I did do at 100% infill first but then everything snapped when shaping together. I tried 15% and it bent better however the seems started to crack? Trying to find an equivalent in cardboard form

I had this issue. Right about 30 mins left they all started getting knocked off. I changed filament and it’s ok. The “marble” grey that looks like concrete is the filament that this was happening to. All other filaments worked fine.

The stand is in a folder called display, there are 3mf files as well, you may need to adjust your computer settings to make sure all file types are showing up

if you are printing multicolor, that takes a lot longer, same if you are printing with a small layer height, there are many settings to adjust if you want to print faster, I would suggest finding a few tutorials if you want to test speed vs quality

Yes we added brim on the last 5 that we tried to print. We have tried on 3 Bambu Lab printers and one Flashforge 5m Pro. They will normally pull off at 85-90% complete and only with the Geode. I would try upscaling them however I have made approx 50 sets of geodes. I am continuing to play around and hope to find a fix. These are fabulous and are my favorite of the rocks!

for those with adhesion issues and them popping free and making noodles. change the infill to gyroid. grid overlaps itself and can bump a layer every pass causing the model to come loose. gyroid prints a little faster and cheaper without overlapping itself.

HIya, just wanted to say, I love these guys! Also, I am just wondering, the little mossy guy seems to appear laying down on my slicer. I'm using a Creality Ender 3 machine. I've tried so many times to make him stand up but his feet just never print right. Any ideas why this could be happening? Thanks so much!

most slicers have a lay flat button, or if you simple rotate it 90deg it will also work

Love your models. I had to break apart the box sides from the box bottom in Tinkercad to get them to fit on my 220x220 build plate. It would be nice if those pieces were separate STL files. Other than that they printed really well! Thanks!

Thanks, I LOVE these! Great work! Any chance of a ZOMBIE Blob Rock in the future.....??? Red eyes, and instead of moss or geodes, he could have a removable brain. Kid friendly still, of course. I get that it's then maybe no longer a "rock", but it could be a limited edition pet rock? Makes the surprise biox element a little more interesting searching for a limited edition pet rock (zombie). It's late, and I'm talking rubbish lol. Either way, I love them. Thanks again!

2026-09-15 02:00 I have no idea what I’m doing wrong but I changed layer hight to .2 with SOME success but these guys don’t want to stay on the plate as they get to the upper half. No joke I have a grave yard of atleast 50 failed rocks .

I have printed most of these and the box and I love them! But trying to work out how to print the layered rock with separate eyes….dont know if im just being stupid but i can only find it preset as layers with integrated eyes

there is not a painted version of the layered rock without the eyes, but it is very easy to paint yourself with the layer paint tool

Im fairly new to 3D printing so bare with me please. The boxes and the display, is there a reason why they are upright and upside down to print, I am assuming its to fit more on the tray. But why is it upside down? Thank you in advance!

I have been printing these more than 1 at a time. flush remains the same whether making one of 5. Wait out the time, you will be so so happy you did.

If you right click on object and select 'split' then select 'to objects' it will separate it into 3 objects (body, outer eye, inner eye) then you can delete the eye parts. i done this on bambu lab not sure if it can be done on other slicers but hope this helps

Hi! Regarding the layered rocks — I’m not sure which filament colors were used. I can tell there’s white and black, but I need the exact names for the other colors. I checked the Amazon list, but there are many filament options with multiple shades of the same color. I want to print them with the exact colors used in the example. Could you please provide the exact filament color names?

The layered rock model needs fixing. I can’t color it properly in Bambu Studio. The only layered version that has color applied already has an issue with the left hand, which prevents me from coloring it like the other layered rocks. The other layered versions can only be printed in a single color. I’m talking specifically about the fully assembled layered rock with the eyes — the left-hand problem makes it impossible to set up correctly for multicolor printing ?

I downloaded the file but I can only find the 3mf where everything is one piece? Am I missing something? Our u1 is down right now and id like to print on on our Flashforge for my son. Im good at missing things.
