This cool aquatic creature loves to swim around and hide out in seaweed. The Blob Axolotl has an articulating head, flexible legs, and gills to breath underwater. You can print it in parts and add a color change on the belly and head for single color printers, or you can go all out by printing in multicolor. The seaweed bed opens and closes to double as a container to store your Axolotl. There's even a version with magnets in the feet to cling onto the nearest sea leaf when the waves get choppy.- flexi gills- flexi legs- articulating head- seaweed bed container- magnetic feet and hidden/no magnet version- print-in-parts and multicolor files included

Instructions

- .12mm layer height for high quality- 3+ perimeters recommended for strength- print without supports- print on flat side- eyes snap into head, use superglue if too loose, scale parts or adjust X-Y compensation if needed- snap head onto body- 3x10mm round magnets fit 100% scale ->amazon link<-, press or glue in depending on your tolerances. For the hidden magnet version, right click on your slicer timeline and "add stop" at the 3.8mm mark to place your magnets.- 3MF files are for color information only, settings may need to be adjusted.

Protomodelos

OMG... you nailed it! It looks excellent!

Breona Hinricher

In previous models you have listed a 3x8mm magnet. Are we able to get this design for use with the same magnets?

Blob Lab

3x8 magnets don't have enough strength, so I've moved to 3x10, likely will update old models at some point. You can also try scaling the model if you want to use 3x8

Breona Hinricher

I was wondering about that. thanks for the quick reply.

Layer x Layer

This is fantastic! How small do you think we could get away with scaling this?

Blob Lab

I’ve tested 50% but feel free to test smaller

Becky Lyons

Just printed my little guy! He’s so cute! I used some 7x2 magnets because that’s what I had on hand. He stuck to my fridge just fine. Also what I used for the cat and fish.

@seebecsprint

Love it - I'm not seeing a 'no magnet' version? Hidden magnet, but not a 'no magnet' option. Am I missing something?

Blob Lab

The hidden magnet version doubles as the no magnet version

@seebecsprint

Thank you. Painting seems off on the hidden magnet version. You can't isolate the fin on it's own in the second section, so the entire piece gets painted, but you can isolate the fin on all other sections. Intentional?

Blob Lab

you may need to adjust the smart fill angle on the bucket tool if it's coloring a whole part instead of just the fin

Seb3Dforge (Themolarcoral)

Hi! What would be the smallest scale you would recommend for the axolotls? We want to print some mini versions of them 😀

Blob Lab

I've tried down to 50%, but they get pretty fragile, 75% would be good

Crystal Scott

We're beginners and have a Creality K2 Plus that can do multiple color printing... but I just bring files into Orca Slicer and create a G Code file and transfer it to my printer. I can't seem to find a file that has the two colors for the body and head. How do I print with both the Peach Pink and Lotus Pink that we purchased?

Blob Lab

you should open the .3mf file as a project, you can also paint it easily with the paint bucket tool

Connie lunsford

Newbie here. Do I have to have a slicer program in place to even download the file. All I get when I try to open it is a screen that says nothing to preview How do I get my files

Blob Lab

yes you need to open the files in your slicer software, i use orca slicer

Daniel Burden

Will there be any new designs before march?

Blob Lab

Yes, there is always one new design each month, next one releases next week

Michael Miller

Do the seaweed beds need to be printed on their side or can they be printed on there bottom?

Blob Lab

print them flat on the bottom

Michael Miller

Perfect thank you. it loaded on its side when I opened it so wanted to ask about it.

Michael Miller

Hey good morning, I'm in a little bit of a time pinch and I noticed the seaweed bed is like 6.5 hrs longer when printing in 0.16mm opposed to 0.20mm. I'm printing 6 at 80% so the longer one is 18.5+ hrs and the .20 is only 12hrs. could I get away with the .20mm since there's not much super fine detail to seaweed or will it affect the moving parts? Im printing them on my Bambu Lab A1.

Kalaminati

I am trying to print these at 80% scale. But this causes the hidden magnet compartment to shrink to 8x2.4mm. I have magnets of size 8x3mm. How can I modify this volume?

Kalaminati

I am trying to add a 8x3mm cylinder as a negative space, but not able to align it properly with the original area as its hidden. I am using Bambu Slicer

Blob Lab

You could try adding a negative part in your slicer software

Nikole Sands

what flushing volumes would you recommend for the eyes? I'm doing the body all one colour but printing the head with eyes in place

Blob Lab

i match the colors as closely as i can to the actual filament, and the default settings work well for me, but of course you can increase it if you see colors start bleeding

Jeff Starr

I printed this at 80% and it came printed just fine. Love your work.

jflans

I am late to the discussion, but I would try using the 8x2.4 space that it shrinks to and just adding a single drop of superglue to the magnet cavity before inserting the magnets. That has worked well for me in the past.
