Okay so gonna hit ya with some fun facts about this match: The major botches The sunset-flip powerbomb off the ladder This is probably the most infamous botch of the match. Eddie climbed behind Rey and attempted a sunset-flip powerbomb. Eddie couldn't maintain his grip around Rey's legs, while Rey didn't release the ladder at the expected moment. As a result, Rey's fall was delayed and the move looked extremely awkward, with Rey essentially having to take the bump himself. Contemporary/review accounts specifically identify this as a major miscommunication between the two. The second ladder “ramp” spot Rey positioned a second ladder against the first to create a makeshift ramp. Eddie was supposed to be sent onto it, and while the overall spot worked, both men came crashing down extremely awkwardly. Rey appeared to land particularly badly and immediately favored his leg/knee afterward. Eddie dropkicking the ladder out from under Rey This wasn't necessarily a botch in execution, but it became a dangerous-looking landing. Rey was climbing shortly after the previous crash when Eddie dropkicked the ladder away. Rey took another hard fall, only moments after the previous major crash. The ladder-on-the-ropes spot Eddie positioned a ladder against the ropes and Rey charged toward him. Rey ended up taking the ladder directly into his body rather than getting the cleaner-looking version of the planned spot. Reports describe it as another particularly nasty-looking moment. The electric-chair/powerbomb sequence Rey climbed and Eddie caught him in an electric-chair position. Rey was supposed to transition out of it, and the transition was somewhat awkward before Rey ended up slipping down Eddie's body into the powerbomb. It wasn't nearly as bad as the opening sunset-flip botch, but it was another example of the match having a lot of improvisation. And then there was the Vickie Guerrero botch This is arguably the most famous non-wrestling botch of the match. Near the finish, Eddie was supposed to be stopped by Vickie Guerrero, who was supposed to come out and interfere. Eddie was waiting on top of the ladder for her cue. She apparently missed her cue. Eddie became visibly frustrated because he was essentially stuck waiting for something that wasn't happening. Rey eventually pulled the ladder away, causing Eddie to fall. Eddie then became visibly angry and was heard yelling " Where the Fuck was Vickie! Contemporary/review accounts specifically mention that she missed her spot. WWE's own recap confirms that Vickie was ultimately supposed to come out, push Eddie off the ladder, and prevent him from stopping Rey from getting the briefcase. What's interesting about the match.

Eddie, by this point, was unfortunately trying to bulk up and get that big-man wrestler build that Vince loved. Because of that, though, he did lose a bit of his mobility. He just didn’t move quite the same way he did a year earlier. You could definitely notice the difference in his speed and movement. Despite that, Eddie was still absolutely incredible at playing both a heel and a babyface. He had that rare ability to make you love him one minute and hate him the next, and that’s something he was truly top-tier at. The whole story behind this match is honestly pretty ridiculous when you look back on it. With Dominik becoming a wrestler himself, though, it does add a completely different layer to the match today. But at the time, you really had to suspend your disbelief with the reasoning behind it. Not only is the idea of having a ladder match over the custody of a child completely insane, but WWE kept hammering home the idea that Eddie had apparently never beaten Rey before. Anyone who has watched Eddie vs. Rey multiple times knows that’s obviously not true. Eddie had beaten Rey plenty of times throughout their careers. So you really have to turn your brain off and just accept the story WWE was presenting. So yeah, the actual premise of the match is questionable and pretty ridiculous. But Eddie and Rey were so damn good that they made it work. Rey was the babyface you wanted to cheer for, while Eddie was playing this crazy, unhinged heel perfectly. And honestly, Eddie Guerrero might have been Rey Mysterio’s best opponent. Their chemistry was just on another level.

It’s a very different type of match than what we watched last week from ‘97, but both great in their own way… mistakes or no mistakes. There’s something about Rey and Eddie’s personalities that allow for a quick buy-in of any story they’re telling.

Most definitely need the reaction to JBL VS EDDIE GUERRERO AT JUDGEMENT DAY 2004 talking bout a blood war

I wish Eddie could see what Dom's doing today, he'd be so damn proud.

Imagine how it would be if Eddie was still around. You could have played the early stages as Rey and Eddie being the angel and devil on Dom's shoulders. Or how absurdly spy vs spy a Dom/Eddie feud would be with each of them trying to out-cheat the other.

Rey did get unmasked in WCW in 1999. WWE wanted him to wear the mask again when he joined in 2002. The first time they had him do shows in Mexico after that, he actually had to consult with the Lucha Libre Commission to use the mask there.

Did Angela make the connection that Eddie's "I'm your Papi" is the origin of Rhea's "Mami" nickname? Oh, if you really want to go back in time on Becky, the SHIMMER Women Athletes Youtube channel has a Rebecca Knox vs Daizee Haze match from 2006. And an entrance from 2011 with her acting as the manager for the Knight Dynasty (Paige and her mother).
