Longer chapter, but thinking of doing a book break here. As in, the first book will end here, not necessarily that I will stop updating.I'm behind on getting a cover for this because honestly, there are a number of things about this work that are different for me and I want to use it to try some new things. That said, it does neatly conclude a character arc which is why I think the break is appropriate. I'd like your thoughts if you have any, and please be honest. Y'all have already paid to be here and I appreciate that more than I can say, so don't blow sunshine up my ass if you've got a problem. (And don't dog on people who say something you disagree with if it happens.)Genuine opinions on the direction of the story are appreciated. This character is fundamentally different from all my other protagonists in that he is not, at heart, a nice guy. He might be a GOOD guy, but he is not a nice guy. Even Abram was a nice guy, albeit weak.

This may not be of great help but it's hard to judge where the drop off should be for this book. Maybe after the next challenge or before but in a way that sets up the reader for more. The end scene makes sense. This is a very perverse society. At least in regards to what human society is used to. And the human reacts in a manner of being offended. It's a gritty topic and I think it goes with the story well.

So, a couple of thoughts: Pala, Yim, and the 'watersports' - kudos for bringing canine territorial / submissive behaviors into the scene, very well done. I get why Taz is upset (i've had a girl lose control of her bladder mid-face-ride and it was NOT pleasant) but I also think the way he 'worked out' the issue was nicely handled. And yes, the announcement is a perfect cliffhanger for the end of the book. Run with that.

I think this serves as a good natural stopping point for the first volume, both in chapter count and where the characters currently are in their journey. There is decent tension set up for the next arc, with the group and with the contest itself. I do hope this isn’t the last we see of this story, and look forward to where the project goes from here!

Great natural stopping point for book 1. The dynamic of Taz’s team is just spot on - I love that he knows Pala so well by now he does not even think for a second she didn’t know what was going to happen or think he’d think it was an accident. Perfect
