Louise De Masi’s General Chat
Are you guys still alive or did you die from this heat this summer? For once, I’m looking forward to winter. They’re saying it’s a double el nino, which for us here in the southeast US, means snow!!! I grew up in upstate new York, and to say i miss snow is an understatement.
Lindsey, you are so welcome to some of our snow, because I think this el nino means even more snow for those of us in the northeast!
Hello!!
Spring has sprung here!
I honestly used Schmincke at first, but then saw some videos where Louise uses W&N. I bought some and they are great, but my Schmincke has a different “feel” to them. So, I’m going back to Schmincke. I ordered Louise’s set and am waiting for them to arrive. I will be putting them in the full pans though because I plan on keeping them with me on a daily basis. I have Daniel Smith, but some of them are too granulating for me. I like a smoother texture.
Plus, I just can’t seem to make a good Payne’s grey with the W&N for some reason, but that might be because I’m a noob
Hi Louise, I was wondering if you could paint just an ordinary domestic short haired cat ;-) I love all animals, but I love cats the most and would very much like to learn how to paint a cat in watercolor. Thanks in advance :-)
Hi Mariëlle, yes! I actually have a couple of cat tutorials already that you might enjoy 😊

Hopefully one of those is just what you’re looking for.
Hello everybody!
Life has been busy, as I’m sure it is for all of you too!
Hope you’re all doing good?
Happy to see all of your work in the different channels ❤️
Hey Kim! We’ve been busy here too and have just moved into our brand new home, so we’ve barely been able to come up for air.
I hope you’ve been well. What have you been working on lately?
Oh wow! Very busy, and with young kids 😬
I have been busy improving my illustrations and practice drawing. Haven’t made time to paint much, really 😅
But yesterday I made a big to do list - creative wise to keep track of what I am currently doing, and what I want to do. Hopefully keep me on track 🤭
Hi Louise, I thought I saw a tutorial of a white enamel jug. I can’t seem to find it.. love your tutorials. About to start the apples 🍏🙏
Hi Ziggy, that tutorial is coming next month! You may have seen the little preview clip I posted recently. I hope you enjoy painting the apples in the meantime.
Thank you I loved it. It’s going to be a gift for a friend. I learnt so much.
Louise, have you ever considered hosting a retreat?
Hi Abbie, yes, I have! I’ve actually been approached by quite a few companies that organise painting retreats. It’s something I’d love to do when I eventually retire, but at the moment I’m just too busy with everything I’m already doing. Hopefully one day!
Does anyone know which brand the eradicator brush is? And size?
Hi Shrine! 😊 Mum uses the Rosemary & Co Eradicator brush, mostly the small one.
She’s written a little more about it on her website, where you’ll also find a link to the brush if you’d like to get one yourself.

Hope that helps!
Same here! Its lovely to practise a bit very day, keeps me going 🥰 the jug looks great by the way, and i love the tranquility in the flower painting in the window. I would love to see more of your work 🥰🥰
Thank you Linny. I have spent a lot of practice time doing Louise’s roses tutorials. I will post some soon.
Just a few of my roses. The first one is the one using the Rose daw? I love painting Roses and hope with Louise’s tutoring I’ll create more delicate petals. I am transitioning from acrylic painting and I am a bit too heavy handed .
Just curious, how do you guys do your drawings for tutorials? Do u freehand, grid method, tracing app?
I print the outline then use a light box to trace. Prior to getting g a light box i used to trace it on the windows.
