In this tutorial I'll be sharing some of my recent watercolour nose studies from my journal.

Hi everyone,

Welcome to this tutorial!

I'll be sharing some of my recent watercolour nose studies from my journal. I'll show you the techniques and insights I've gathered while focusing on this essential part of portrait painting.

If you're looking to improve your portrait painting skills, it's beneficial to break down the face into its individual components and practice each one separately. By concentrating on the nose in this tutorial, you'll gain valuable insights into shading, proportion, and the subtle variations that make each nose unique.

I hope you gain some useful tips from this tutorial.

All of the files you need to complete the paintings are attached below my message here. You can download them individually or all at once by clicking on the "Download all" button.

I'm looking forward to doing these. Just have to finish my leaves in water vase first.

I am looking forward to trying these out...breaking the face down into short studies like this portraiture less daunting....!

Carol Bly

Thank you, Louise! I'm just finishing up The Jacket and then am eager to try the nose studies. I've done a couple of portraits and find the nose tricky...and, well, the lips, and the eyes, and the ears, lol

Diane Johnson

So pleased that you are beginning tutorials portraits! I'm a beginner but hope to master portraits and landscapes through time!! So excited!!!!

Louise De Masi

That was my thinking. It can be overwhelming painting a portrait so this way we can get some practice in first.

Great minds think alike, I’m working on the challenge too! Can’t wait to start the nose study 😃

I am delighted to have this tutorial Louise, I can hardly wait to give this a try. Also I do appreciate the three different skin tones as I would love to do children from around the world. Thank you for sharing your talents and time with eager watercolor students. Blessings, Lindsay
