Hi everyone,

Great job to everyone who tackled the freesias last month! The results were beautiful and showed impressive edge control and colour transitions. I loved how some of you added the cast shadow in the background.

This month, we’re diving into a different realm with a bold new subject: a lion. It’s a bit of a step up in complexity, but that's where the fun begins. To help, I’m sharing not only the line drawing and reference photo but also a copy of my own painting. I hope it helps you bring your paintings to life.

Lions are a fantastic exercise for practising texture, contrast, and capturing a sense of strength. Don’t worry about nailing every detail; this challenge is about exploring and pushing your skills.

As always, there’s no need for perfection. Post your work in our Patreon chat, Facebook group, or on Discord. I’m really looking forward to seeing your interpretations!

The line drawing, reference photo, and my painting are all attached below. Happy painting, and let’s see those lions roar!

I could never paint this on my own but your tutorials are so good that I could do it with your instruction. I hope that one day you could make a tutorial. My dad loves lions and it would be a great gift…I can dream🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks for all you do provide, you’re awesome!
