Hi everyone,

In this tutorial, we’ll paint a simple yet effective landscape using just three colours - French Ultramarine, Transparent Sienna, and Transparent Yellow - plus a touch of Titanium White (opaque) for final details (see the Supplies List for substitute colours). Since I painted this while still in my cast, I kept it loose, relaxed, and beginner-friendly!

We’ll cover key techniques like:

🎨 A wet on wet sky for soft blends

🌳 Simple tree shapes using varied edges, colour, and tone

🌾 Foreground texture with dry brushing and loose grasses

🖌️ Adding final details with random, painterly marks

This is a great project to build confidence with landscapes while keeping things stress-free and fun.

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here.

There are some progress photos of my painting to help you.

You can download them individually or all at once by clicking on the "Download all" button.

I hope you enjoy painting along - let me know how you go!

Louise

Thank you so much for this one, Louise. I am daunted by doing landscapes, as no idea where to start, especially with trees. So I look forward to learning how. I hope your recovery is going well x

Louise De Masi

My pleasure Natalie. I hope this helps you. I'm heading into the fracture clinic today for another x ray and hopefully cast removal! I'm really looking forward to getting this cast off.

Natalie Hughes

I have no doubt it will help. I can imagine. Casts are horrible, especially when it's hot and it gets itchy! Will definitely be worth celebrating when you get it removed. x

Kate

This looks fun! Very excited to jump into landscapes, Louise de Masi Style!

Diana

Yes Louise I definitely hope you're doing all right. Did they take the cast off? I tried this as real quick one pre-practice. It came out well. Now I'm going to sit down and go through it with you step by step. Thank you

Debra Ch.

I'm sorry but I don't see any attached files for this painting...

Louise De Masi

They are listed underneath my message- under- 'Attachments'. 'Farmhouse line drawing.jpg', 'Farmhouse progress photo 1.jpg'..... etc.

Thanks Diana. I'm glad it came it well. They did take the cast off! Hooray - now I've got to get it working again.

My computer was a bit off! Now, the attachments are there (just like in all your tutorials). Thank you very much. Hope you are healing/feeling better each day.

Linda

Loved this🥰👍🏻

Diana

Awesome tutorial Louise.

Hi Louise hope you continue to recover well. This is the first time I have joined in with a comment. I really enjoyed doing this one. I took your advice from an earlier post. That is I watched your tutorial a couple of time. Then I did my own line drawing as I wanted to change the size. I continued using the tutorial to work along side until I got to a point where I felt I could finish using your finished reference painting. I now plan to keep up with as many of your tutorials as possible. Thank you.

Louise De Masi

That’s wonderful to hear! Thank you so much for sharing your experience Janice. I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial and found the approach of watching first and then working alongside it helpful. I think that’s the best way to use them.

Diane

Size: (3.3 by 11.7 inches): The finished product does not look like 3.3 x 11.7 inches.

Louise De Masi

Whoops typo! It should read 8.2 by 11.7. Sorry for the confusion Diane and thank you for letting me know. I'll re-upload a new Supplies list with the correct measurements.

Diane

WOW, that was a speedy reply, and thank you, Louise!! :-)
