Hi everyone,

I’m excited to share my rose painting tutorial on Patreon! This piece was originally made for YouTube - not Patreon - but quite a few of you asked for a full version.

Unfortunately this is not a full version because I didn’t film every single part of the painting - it’s missing some footage including my usual palette pick-up, so this tutorial is best suited for advanced painters.

To help you out, I’ve added 13 progress photos you can download, which should fill in the gaps nicely.

I’ve written a blog post about this painting - detailing my compositional choices which you can find here: //www.louisedemasi.com/tips/2024/11/2/exploring-composition-in-paintings

Hope you enjoy it and find some inspiration for your own work. Happy painting!

Louise

Beautiful! I watched the whole video and even though you do not show the palette while mixing color, this beginner level person might give it a go🤷🏻‍♀️ I love it!

Louise De Masi

That's good to know Sammie -thank you! I don't like leaving bits out but I didn't have the footage - unfortunately. This gave me something to do while I was in my cast. Have fun with it. 🥰

So lovely! I love roses, this will be my next painting :-). Thank you for this tutorial!

Oh, it’s lovely, Louise. Looking forward to this one. I love all the shadows on the petals.

Hi Louise. I only have Winsor blue (red shade) not green shade which says its the same pigment code as the blues you listed, will this be ok? thanks

Louise De Masi

Hi Natalie, Winsor Blue red shade is a warm red whereas WB green shade is cool. Do you have a cool blue?

Natalie Jukes

Thank you. The only blues I have are French ultramarine, cobalt and cerulean.

Louise De Masi

I think try the Cobalt blue before the others - and see if you like how it mixes.

Sublime et magnifique merci beaucoup 👍🎨🙏🙏🙏❤️

Bless your heart, I don't know how you've managed. Thanks for all you do.

Absolutely beautiful! I can't wait to give this a try! Thank you for your wonderful tutorials!

I'm giving this a try today. I'm using cold press paper as I am out of hot press at the moment. I have not painted much with cold press and I am quickly noticing a big difference between the two paper types! It take much longer for the paper to absorb the water. The paint seems to sit on top of the paper and not soak in like with hot press. Do you have any videos where you are painting the same picture on both types of paper and showing how you need to work with the different types?

Fadila Sides

c'est très. beau le dégradé de couleurs est sublime merci beaucoup

Beautiful and clear tutorial as usual. You are a great teacher and painting becomes easier with your explanations. I've seen a tutorial of a white rose on YouTube but I can't find it here on Patreon. Maybe because it is 6 years old? Thanks a lot !!!!
