Hi everyone,

Last month’s still life challenge was a tricky one - hats off to those who gave it a go! I know some of you found it daunting, but it was great to see different interpretations. I’m hoping to paint it myself when I get a chance!

This month, we’re bringing in a burst of colour with a beautiful sun conure! 🌿🦜

I took the reference photo a few years ago while on holiday in Cairns, North Queensland, and I couldn’t resist capturing this little bird’s vibrant feathers.

Birds are a great subject for practising soft edges, layering, and getting those rich colours to glow. Don’t stress about every detail - focus on capturing the energy and personality of this bright little parrot.

As always, I’ve attached the line drawing and reference photo below. I’d love to see your paintings, so feel free to share them in our Patreon chat, Facebook group, or Discord!

Happy painting,Louise

Is there a video of painting this bird?

Louise De Masi

Hi Jean, No this is a 'challenge' - for patrons to try to paint on their own without a tutorial. I post a different one every month.

I just finished painting the Sun Conure parrot. How can I post it in this month's March challenge?

Louise De Masi

Hi Gail - go into the 'community' section of Patreon and you can post it in the 'chat' section of that.
