Hi everyone,

If you want to try painting on Aquabord with watercolour, I’ll walk you through it step by step as we paint this olive branch. I’ll share tips along the way on how Aquabord behaves and how to get the most out of it.

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here. There are 7 progress photos of my painting that will help you.

Click on the zip file (right down the bottom) to download them all at once or if you have difficulty opening zip files you can download the files individually.

You can download them individually or all at once by clicking on the "Download all" button.

Thank you Louise!!! And your garlic is lovely too!!!

Louise De Masi

Hi Linda, if you google 'Aquabord Australia' a lot of places pop up. You may have to order it online though....Art Store Online - The Sydney Art Store - Senior Art - Eckersleys etc.

Linda

Thank you

Why the cradled Aqua board? I can get flat Aqua board 6x6 cheaper for 3 panels.

Louise De Masi

Use the flat panel- it's the same surface. I've used the cradled panel because it doesn't need to be framed.

Patricia Maraia

Love this and will give it a go as soon as I purchase some Aquabord! The garlic painting would be a great companion. Are you planning a tutorial on this as well? Thank you for all your hard work.

Mary Burchette

Love this tutorial. Would love to see a tutorial of the garlic too.

Louise De Masi

Thanks Patricia. I'd need to paint another garlic and film it. That's something I'll try to do later this year.

Julie Smout

Thanks Louise loved this tutorial. Julie

I have a question about painting on an aquabord. I try to paint a portrait on this board. But I struggle with that the paint is lifting when I add an extra layer with paint. What must I do to avoid this lifting?

Louise De Masi

Aquabord can be a bit tricky when you first start using it because the surface isn’t absorbent like paper, so the paint tends to sit on top and can lift easily. To avoid this, make sure each layer is completely dry before you go in with the next, using a hairdryer can help speed that up. When layering, try to use a light touch and avoid overworking the area. It takes a bit of practice, but once you get the feel for it, it’s a lovely surface to work on.

This is another painting project for my "sketchbook" for the month of world watercolors. I love your choice of colors to spice up the otherwise pale green color scheme. Thank you!

I seem to be falling behind, but would like to thank you for the lovely olive branch. The colours are stunning - I hope to do justice to this lovely soft painting - it really is beautiful!
