Hi everyone,

In this tutorial I’ll take you step by step through painting fruit on a spoon in watercolour, using just four colours. We’ll explore masking fluid, wet-on-wet, layering, and capturing reflections on metal.

I've divided the tutorial into 3 parts. This is part 1.

Part 2 is here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/140310112

Part 3 is here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/140310323

I've included 21 progress photos to guide you through the painting. All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here. You can download them individually or all at once by clicking on the "Download all" button.

I hope you enjoy it.

I love this idea! Thank you!

I’m so happy to see something colorful! I was really hoping you would post something bright soon. I live burnt sienna and French ultramarine too, lol, but I love a good pop of color.! So fun to paint! Excited to do this one hopefully this weekend ❤️

Ooh, this is going to be so much fun to try. Thank you so much, Louise. It's fab! <3

I cannot wait to try this one. I particularly love the drip from the spoon. Thanks so much, Louise.

Thanks Louise! I have been waiting on this one 🙏🏻😊

I see your hand still wrapped; is it healing up well? I hope so!

Louise De Masi

I hope you enjoy painting it Beverly. Thank you! 🥰

More surgery on Wednesday next week I'm afraid. I'll do a post about it next week. Thanks Amanda. 🥰

This such a wonderful twist on a fruit still life! It's fabulous and I am looking forward to painting it! Thank you, Louise.❤️🎨💚

Looks very tasty. Louise, would you say the green you mix at the beginning of part one is like a sapphire green or hooker green?

Louise De Masi

Thanks Marty! Hmmm.......maybe Hookers green with some yellow in it. Try that and see what it looks like.

Janet

Yess , can’t wait to have a go at this deliciousness of color !

Janet

The raspberries are so much fun to paint! I find it's a lot easier to control the values when there is only one color involved.

Barb Couilliard

Gosh, I'm just starting part 1 and right away I see that she painted the gray mixture in two of the spots that show bright white on the final painting? I'm so confused, how did she end up with those shapes being white, when she just painted them gray? I don't know what to do now. :(

Louise De Masi

Hi Barb, perhaps the final photo has washed them out. If I painted grey in two spots then there is definitely grey there.....unless further along in the painting I remove some paint with an eradicator brush. Keep following along with the tutorial.

Barb Couilliard

Ok thank you, Louise. I will soldier on!
