Unbelievably adorable and beautiful Louise. Thank you so much !!! I think my shopping list is growing... surely I can mix a Naples? And thank you so much for the 2nd sunflower tutorial- so sorry for the delayed thank you 💙

Karen Lorenz

So cute! Is there a list of the colors I will need. I like to be sure before I begin that I have what I need.

Paige Flutterbye

click the "continue reading" and Louise is kind enough to attach a document with all the supplies, the line art, progress picture and completed painting :) hope that helps! Its late at night where we are (Louise and I both in Australia), so thought i would reply as i may see the question first- hope that is ok 💙

Karen Lorenz

THANK YOU! I saw the links but somehow missed the supplies one! I appreciate your help! I should know by now that Louise is always very thorough!

Karen Read

I so appreciate your comment about not needing exact colors. I think, after painting awhile, we all have this huge supply of paints. Being able to use some of them instead of rushing about adding to the pile is nice!

Paige Flutterbye

you are welcome :) its easy to miss them and was easy to answer as i was here :)

Oh, I'm so thankful for you and your tutorials! XOXOXO

Looking forward to painting this little chick. I think I saw mama was a muscovy. They are so funny the way they "wag their tails" .🐥

What other colors could you use if you don’t have green-gold

Louise De Masi

Green gold is a greeny yellow so you could add a touch of green (sap green if you have it) to one of your bright yellows. Looking at my colour chart, Quinacridone Gold could be used too although it's a bit more gold - I still think it would work ok.

Lisa Hatipoglu

Dear Louise, Could you add a background to the duckling? I believe the reference photo’s background would make an interesting composition. But I would need some help getting the project started. Thanks for your help.

Louise De Masi

Hi Lisa, I'll paint some more backgrounds on new tutorials. You can paint a simple background around the duckling by working on wet paper. Have a look at how I painted the Sea Turtle background. I wet it in stages and then dropped in the paint while it was wet. You can do the same thing with a different colour but add suggestions of leaves or grass behind the duckling. Anything you wanted to paint in front of the duckling like grass for instance you could paint on dry paper.

If in a reference photo there is a cast shadow over a pale yellow, which colour should be used for cast shadow, the grey mixture or violet? Thanks

Louise De Masi

It doesn't really matter Iona however you might be safer with the grey. Keep it pale though because you don't want the colour to overpower and you want to be able to see the feathers in the shadow.

Hi Louise I was going to have a try at the duckling but I don’t have green /gold is there any other colour I can use or mix to make it please?

Louise De Masi

Hi Yvonne, It's pigment code PY129. Quinacridone Gold would work just as well. If you don't have that try Raw Sienna or Gold Ochre. Otherwise try mixing a tiny bit of green like sap green into one of your yellows. You don't have to use the same colours I used. Experiment with the colours you have.

Yvonne Walton

Hi Louise I finally did this duckling and thoroughly enjoyed it. So please with my painting. You are a fantastic teacher. Thank you for all you time and input you do to make these tutorials.

Ellie

Hi Louise, I start preparing my colours for the duckling but I can't figure out in the supplies list says Ultramarine blue, is this French Ultramarine or Ultramarine green shade, I looked at the W&N chart but couldn't see colour named Ultramarine Blue. Thank you xx

Louise De Masi

Hi Ellie, thanks so much for letting me know. It's French Ultramarine. I'll change it on the Supplies List. 💕

Ellie

Thank you for the quick reply 😊❤
