Hi everyone,

I hope you had a great weekend!

Dom and I had a busy weekend. We managed to get one side of the house 'almost' painted. The photos here show the side of the house. We have to get up on the roof of the verandah next weekend...yikes. The roof is grey so we are going to paint the garage door a light grey colour along with the windows, doors, fascia and verandah posts. There's lots of work ahead of us. We have to replace external lights and I'd like a new front door too. It never ends.

I just got some new art supplies delivered. I bought some extra Aquabord panels because I want to do a tutorial for you on how to paint on them (I've got to practice first because it's been a while since I painted on one.) I also discovered these 'scrubber' brushes. One of their uses is to lift off paint from watercolour paintings.....who knew? I have an old bristle brush that I use to do that. It has fixed many of my mistakes in the past but it's looking a bit old and past it now so I was glad I found these. For my Aussie patrons I got them here if you're interested: https://www.thesydneyartstore.com.au/product-group/2622-silver-brush-silver-scrubber-sets/category/269-sets

There's also another link here for US patrons: jerrysartarama.com/silver-brush-silver-scrubbers   I've seen them on Amazon as well.

I finished painting the Macaw yesterday so I'll be working on the tutorial for you this week.  I hope to have it finished by the end of the week.

Have a fabulous week!

xx

Irene Hsieh

Is it possible to have a tutorial on vintage rose watercoloring.

Louise De Masi

Hi Irene, I'm just checking what you mean by a vintage rose, do you mean an old fashioned rose like a David Austin rose?

Louise De Masi

Oh I see! You have a palette with pretty and soft subdued colours. I've never seen them before Irene. They look lovely. I don't have any of those colours but I could probably paint an old fashioned rose and I could help you substitute the colours that I use with the colours in the palette.

Irene Hsieh

I’d love that. Thank you in advance.

Palmira Farkash

I can already see in my mind the Rhodonite Genuine, Raw Umber and Sepia colors of the rose... Just thinking about it makes my heart happy! :)

Kathy Wilden

Thanks for showing us the aqua boards. I was able to order some. Can’t wait for the macaw tutorial.

Laurel

Wow painting your house is a big job but I love the colours you’ve decided on. The Macaw tutorial looks like fun so I will bookmark for future. I’m 13 weeks away from retirement and have saved so many projects, can’t wait!

BRITTENY RUSSO

Your house is looking great! Looks like a lot of work! Your macaw painting is one of my favorites. Can't wait!

Oooh off course I had to go out and get some scrubber brushes as well LOL. I've seen then in our art shop and been wanting to get them. You just gave me an excuse hehehhehe. Can't wait to try them 😍

Louise De Masi

Lol....I'm looking forward to using mine too. 😝💕

Louise De Masi

Thanks Kathy. I'll remind myself how to paint on them before I do a tutorial. They're a bit different to painting on paper but still lots of fun.

Chantelle Venter

Would be nice to see how you use yours, then I know I'm doing it right 🤣 So glad I found you on YouTube. Your paintings are amazing. This weekend I'm attempting your rabbit. Finally have all the colours ❤️

Louise De Masi

Oh wow....13 weeks and counting. That's wonderful news. It's time for some quality 'Laurel' time. 💜

Louise De Masi

Oh that's good news. Enjoy it. Let me know, when you're painting if you have any questions/worries etc.

Hotflash Vickie

I've bought the U.S. version of those scrubber brushes before somewhere... knowing myself well enough to know many mistakes lie ahead in my watercolor journey, so I think I bought 3 or 4 sets of the things.... Well, I have to say, I make a lot of mistakes... sad :( On the other hand, I have a positive attitude. I may start out with a macaw, but if I end up with a koi fish, hey, it's a NICE koi fish, okay?

Louise De Masi

Lol.....Don't worry I do too Vickie....make lots of mistakes that is! A positive attitude is the best thing to have. 💜

Hi Louise, I'm curious about the aquaboards. Not seen them here or in the online store I buy from. Any suggestions? Thanks :)

Louise De Masi

Hi Jahl, I got mine from here https://www.thesydneyartstore.com.au/product-group/828-ampersand-aqua-boards/category/248-boards-panels They are also here: https://www.jacksonsart.com/en-au/ampersand-aquabord-panel-cradled-22mm-8x10in They are made by Ampersand. It's basically a board with an acid free clay absorbent surface that you can paint on with watercolour. Then you spray them with varnish when you're finished to protect them. They don't need to go behind glass. You can buy them cradled (with an edge) or flat. It's a bit different to painting on paper but still lots of fun. It's really easy to lift colour off them.

Jahl

Thanks Louise, I've bookmarked those sites.
