Did you know there are only 10 weeks until Christmas? Where has the year gone?

I started this little Cardinal painting yesterday because a few of you have requested some Christmas subjects that you could put on Christmas cards. I'll paint another simple 'Christmasy themed' subject too - maybe some holly or something like that.

I hope all is well in your world and you are taking some time for yourself to paint.

Vibrant and beautiful! I’m curious to know if you like your water bucket? I use 2 jars now (which works) but have thought about buying that style container as I’m fairly clumsy with glass. 🤨

Louise De Masi

Thank you! I've only had it a few weeks but so far so good. I'm quite happy with it. It holds a lot of water and it has 3 compartments inside where you can seperate the water - have a dirty compartment and a clean compartment etc. You wouldn't be able to tip it over like you would a glass jar. The handle you can use as a rest for your brushes but I haven't done that yet. So I'll give it a tick of approval. 😝

So beautiful! :-) This will be another fun one to paint. Lovely colors, love working with some reds. Thank You, Louise.

Well, what do you know? I would just LOVE to try this beautiful Cardinal for Christmas this year... or, ahem, if not this Christmas, perhaps NEXT, my skills being what they are (miserable). But aim high, that's my motto! And if I miss the spot, why, I can always aim again next year, or... whatever year, right? Er, right.... so looking forward to this SO much, and aren't you just the BEST for taking an idea and running to your studio with it? Honestly you are! Such an amazing woman as well as an amazing artist! Oh, and how is your house looking? You musn't keep us all in suspense! If you've posted an update on the paint job on FB, I must have missed it, but I hope that project went/is going well and the color turned out beautifully! (My sister was convinced by her daughter to go bold with HER house color, which she's putting on the market soon, and it's going from a drab light gray to a Craftsman Bright/Dark Blue! So far it looks GRAND, just like something from the 1920's! I hope you're just as excited about your house's transformation; I think it helps to uplift the occupants when a house's exterior is uplifted as well! And I've been inspired to CLEAN and organize my craft room/office/bedroom down to the bare wood after looking at how well organized yours is! The spiders were relocated and are mad at you, but they'll get over it...)

Louise De Masi

My pleasure Rita. Thank you. I'm hoping it will work out ok.

Louise De Masi

Thank you Vickie. House painting is slow. We've been up on the verandah roof painting the second storey. We are about half way around the house now. It looks weird at the moment because the top half is white and the bottom half, under the verandah roof, is a wet sand colour. Once we have painted all the bricks then we have to go around and paint all the windows and cladding and garage door. I hope we haven't bitten off more than we can chew. Dom is an ex builder and he estimated that it would have probably cost us $20,000 or more to pay a professional painter so we have no choice but to do it ourselves 😩. We'll get there. I'll post a time lapse when I can so you can see. Your sister's radical house colour change sounds very exciting. My painting room was all tidied up for Dom's 'reveal'. At the moment it's messy. At least I can shut the door on all the mess now.

Terri H.

Louise, I’m just about skipping around the room at the thought of this tutorial! Now, if it weren’t for those darn feather separations! 🤪

$20,000?!?! Like U.S.?? That's ridiculous! Do you live somewhere so remote a painter must take three planes, 2 trains, rent a car for 5 days then a CAMEL (not that we'd mind), then hike to your place with an Aboriginal guide and a week's provisions? Otherwise, I'm stumped! My sister is paying her man, (one fellow) about $1,000 and he's painting the whole thing with a BRUSH! I was so shocked at THAT part I sheepishly asked her if she was, be you know, sleeping with the guy too... She was kind of NOT and didn't laugh or anything, SO I changed the subject. Being adopted, she's used toe so probably wasn't paying attention anyway. At any rate, it is a good thing you have watercolor painting to take your mind off latex painting, and Dom to handle the details of "the guy stuff," as I call everything outside the front door. Not my jurisdiction, I tell my husband, so I will not dwell on it, problem gone!!

Jacinthe Boudreau

Yes,🥰I am looking forward to paint this beautiful cardinal......beautiful Louise and again thank you for sharing your knowledge and great talent💕💞

Eve Eichner

Ohhhh great! I love Cardinals! Yours is beautiful so far Louise!💖🌺

Debbie Renwick

Terri Honz I did do some jumping/bouncing around in my chair when I got this notice!!! So excited!!!!!😀😀😀

Amanda Novaes

Hi Louise, i am curious. Why do you use a towel on your table?

Louise De Masi

Hi Amanda. Only to protect the surface of the table. It's new and I don't want to get water and paint all over it. Sometimes I'll wipe my brush on the towel too when I'm in the middle of painting and I'm in a hurry.

Rachel Ottley

Hooray!! I am a displaced Aussie living in the US & we get many cardinals in our yard. They are one of my favorite North American birds.

Bronwyn bossley

Thank you Louise looking forward to seeing results

Yolonde

oooo how exciting. I was looking at red cardinals recently and thought that would be awesome to do something in such a vibrant red.

Jo Olson

This is so exciting. Cardinals are my favorite. I can't wait to try this one. I also am amazed at what you have painted already after only starting yesterday!! Wow. It's beautiful.

Marijke de Boer

I love this one - a lovely christmas topic too. Louise, I finally managed to put some photos of dolphins on the Wildlife Reference Photo website. I would love to paint a dolphin and hope there is something you like. You can search under my name (contributors: Marijke Nita de Boer). There is more to come, I have images of polar bears, penguins, orcas and whales (and many more dolphins). I can imagine that they can be tricky to draw (I have yet to try) so am not sure if they are suitable. I hope so!

Louise De Masi

Thanks Marijke for letting me know. That's such a great resource for us wildlife artists. I look forward to seeing all the photos you're going to upload.

Kelle Luoma

Pixabay is a great site for images that are free for commercial use and are no attribution required . I also want to paint dolphins and have found several great images there. I also look forward to seeing your photos Marijke.

Amanda Novaes

Thanks for the answer. As soon as possible i will send you my flowers...

Amy Arendsen

Looking forward to another bird tutorial. 🧡 I get cardinals at my bird feeder quite a bit. Also, I have discovered an app called 500px. It is a great resource for photographs.

Sue Hamman

Birds and flowers are my favorite things to paint. I can't wait to give this one a try! Thanks so much Louise!!!

Nicole Kuyten

wow! I painted the same cardinal not that long ago!

Palmira Farkash

I spy a Silver Black Velvet brush 😊 New? How do you like it so far?

Louise De Masi

Good spotting Palmira! I’m loving it. I’ve got this one and two others. I think I’ll buy myself some more now.

joy carter

Louise would you be able to show us how to paint wisteria.

Louise De Masi

Hi Joy, Wisteria is very pretty. I'll add it to my list of subjects. Thank you for the suggestion.
