Hi everyone,

Happy December!

Where has the year gone?

I'm popping in to let you know what I'm up to. I've finished the Crow painting and I'll be spending this week putting a tutorial together. It took me a few days to complete the painting. This is a big one. I have 175 small videos to piece together to make the tutorial so I'll be busy!

Have a wonderful week and try to fit some painting time into it!

That is a beautiful crow, and I can't wait. Thank you.

Can't wait to see all your tricks for the black on this!! I've been wondering about your treatments on black on other paintings of yours and been hoping you'd let us all in on the secret, so get to work and don't let us keep you :) LOL We

I love this crow! looking forward to painting it. :-) Louise, are those new brushes you are using? Looks like Betty Hathaways brand are these synthetic, or mixture? Thank you for all your hard work on the tutorial. :-)

Ooops again.... I moved my keyboard around, not drunk -- today -- but what I was going to say is, I've moved my keyboard over Thanksgiving Holiday, trying to get organized and give myself more room to PAINT (and apparently drink, right?) so I can learn more of your wonderful tutorials and amazing tricks - they look so smooth and easy when you do them. Maybe I'm not drink enough, eh? Just joking. We're all fat and lazy this week eating turkey and dressing, though, especially here in the American South, where there are more ways to EAT ANYTHING than anywhere in the world. Do NOT get me started on that subject. My family is all stuffed full of pecan pie and sweet potato casserole. I may be too sick to paint for a few weeks. And we have pounds of turkey to eat, too. The thought of it makes me a little green. But looking forward, nonetheless, to your beautiful crow tutorial!!!!

Hi Rita, good spotting! They are Betty Hayways brushes and they are synthetic. Betty Hayways sent me a set to try them out. So far I like using them.

Kathy Wilden

Wow he looks so good! Can’t wait to paint it.

Susan Turney

So gorgeous! So exciting!😁

Rainkatt

Really excited to do this one!!

I love the look of these new brushes... the iridescence on the feral of the brushes matches the iridescence in Louise's paintings. Such coordination, lol!

Debra Sullivan

Louise, would it be possible to lightly sketch the illustration before stretching your paper to the board?

Elizabeth Pollock

Hi Louise, I'm a new patron and am really looking forward to learning from you! Your work is simply gorgeous and is my inspiration... Hugs for now from sunny but chilly Virginia, USA💖

Louise De Masi

Hi Elizabeth, Welcome and thank you very much! I'm glad you're here. 💕

Louise De Masi

Hi Debra, Yes absolutely. I do that often. You can put your drawing on the paper before or after you stretch it.

Wow, I love your bird tut❤️👏❤️

Hi Louise. I have a question for you. I see that you always work with different brushes in your tutorials. Is it really so important that a certain brush is used for a certain subject? I wonder because sometimes I do not achieve the expected result or it is because I am using the wrong brush. I usually use the Silver Black Velvets and some fine W&N Series 7. Or is it just me. Kind regards.

Louise De Masi

Hi Nicole, No it's not important. Use whatever brushes you are comfortable with. Don't go out and buy the same brushes I use. I list them because some people like to know what it is I'm using. We all have our own preferences and we get used to using a particular brand. The size and type of your brush will sometimes have a bearing on what it is your painting but not the brand. If I'm using a large round, then you should use a large round rather than a 'small flat' etc.
