Hi everyone,

I hope you've had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend. Dom and I spent Saturday morning  mowing. It's the first time we've had to mow this summer. Normally we have to mow every weekend but because we've had very little rain, the grass hasn't been growing. We got some rain two weekends ago though and it's greened up and had a growth spurt. We mow about 6 or 7 acres. I get on the ride-on mower while Dom drives the tractor and slasher.

Today I'm finishing the voice over for the Wallaby tutorial. I'll check it all and have it ready to upload this week.

I've also been putting together a tutorial for beginners where I demonstrate a fundamental technique that you need to learn when you first start painting in watercolour - the dreaded 'flat wash'. I've painted some examples of how to do it and also how not to do it 🥴.

I also plan to film a 'graded wash' tutorial and a 'variegated wash' tutorial too. These are basic techniques that you should practice over and over when you are learning to paint in watercolour.

Dom is still going with the outdoor house painting!

Look at that sky! I hope there's some rain in it.

Ok it's time for lunch now. I need to call that old man in off the roof. After lunch I'm going to order some flat brushes and some masking fluid. I don't have very many flat brushes because I don't use them much but I want to start practicing some landscapes so I can do some tutorials for you.

E njoy the rest of your weekend.

Hooray for landscape tutorials. And for rain. And wallabies!

Kimberly

I love the animal tutorials! Thanks 😊

bridget vollmer

Oh landscapes and animals are my favorite to paint. Thanks so much and can’t wait for the wallabie tutorial! Hoping you get more rain. ☺️

Thank you for your dedication. Basic techniques will be really helpful right now. They scare me but I'm more afraid of failing because I haven't learnt them. A lot of the tutorials I have seen have made it look easy but when I try to follow along it just hasn't worked out. It's frustrating not knowing what I'm doing wrong! Have a wonderful (and wet 🤞!) weekend xx

Robyn

Thanks Louise. Looking forward to the wallaby. Cheers Robyn

One of the reasons I love your tutorials is that you're so kind to ALL of us, ALL skill levels, from newbies like me (who know next to NOTHING) to experts, and you seem to keep us all challenged, leaving no one behind! We don't thank you enough for that consideration when you are thinking up videos and projects, because it seems like there is always something for everyone! Just last week as I was feeling discouraged for seemingly ruining yet another project (the Galah from your Skillshare class because that hard-to-master mixing technique), I saw a watercolorist I follow on Instagram posting in "Story" mode her OWN Galah your class, saying how much she enjoyed it, and we compared notes on what a wonderful teacher you are!! She has trouble with her arm, though, and was using Jane's Grey from Daniel Morgan, and you could see that flatter tones in the Galah wings, but I have to say you could see more texture when you use your method. On the other hand, I kind of wish that I, rookie that I am, had used HER technique, because I should not have tried to be such an expert mixer when I know I'm NOT! MY wing looks hideous and dark and pathetic! I just wanted to switch wings! And my poor, long-suffering husband wants to know when he is going to be able to use the empty frame he bought last year when I signed up for your Skillshare class and Patreon. Ugh.... I told him to keep waiting if he wants an original Vickie watercolor, but if he's THAT anxious, I'll go buy him a baseball print or something! Ha-ha. He's seriously thinking it over, the animal. I showed him a picture of Dom on your roof and said, "Hey, while you're waiting to fill that frame, I can think of some projects on OUR roof that need some attention," but by the time I looked up, he had disappeared, strangely enough.....

Oh, poo, I said "Daniel Morgan" instead of Daniel Smith!!!! it is SO LATE here in the States and I am past my bedtime -- Daniel Morgan was a Revolutionary War hero here in South Carolina, and that was 200 years ago! Honestly, I have not been drinking!!

Looking forward to the wallaby. Watched the rabbit tutorial (again) and still just so intimidated by fur! Then I tell myself that 6 weeks ago I was so intimidated by feathers, and that worked out ok, with many practice paintings. The rabbit just looks so much looser! Feathers have definite outlines and fur doesn’t. 🥺 Thank you again Louise for all that you do for us. I want to paint a landscape from a photo I took, but I’ve no idea where to start. BTW, do you have possums at your garden? Yours are so much cuter than our opossums.

You are so kind to keep us updated. I love the personal bits as well as the taste of what's to come soon as far as a new tutorial. I believe you are a lovely woman as well as an amazing artist. Thanks for all you do for us.

Lydia Shemain

Louise, always look forward to your updates — so personal so informative. As indicated in an earlier comment you include everyone from newbies to the advanced. So glad I stumbled on your site, have learnt so much in 3 months. Just a suggestion. As time goes by, if the site gets overloaded with tutorials, would you give us the opportunity to purchase the tutorials. Thanks.

Gina Squitieri

Oh I can't wait to do some landscapes!! Thanks for the update. Prayers for you and Dom! Love from southern California ❤️ Gina

Thanks Kelle! We do have possums here but I don't see them normally. They are nocturnal so they are asleep in the trees during the day. Sometimes I'll see them at night if I'm in my car. They'll cross our road in front of me so I have to be careful when I'm driving.

Louise De Masi

Thank you for this lovely message Jo. I read them when I first wake up in the morning so this a lovely way to start my day. 💕

Louise De Masi

Thank you very much Lydia. That is a very good idea and some of them I can put on my Teachable site. I've neglected that site because I've been so busy here on Patreon. Last night I updated the tutorial index I have on my website. Things like that take a long time and take me away from other work. I need an assistant to help me do it all. It would be so good to have a 'techie' helper. 💕

Louise De Masi

Lol........you're such a sweetheart Vickie. Don't be discouraged. Yesterday I was going through some of my very early paintings when I first started in watercolour and oh boy......you should see them. I'll do a post soon to show you some of them. 💕

Michelle Wainer

You. Are. Awesome. Thank you for working so hard to teach and keep us interested. And for all the thought and time you put in to each tutorial. It is so appreciated.

Patti Kehl
