Thanks, Louise! As always, this one looks fun to do, it will be added to my (very long) list! 💜💛💚

Evelyn Hamacher

Very excitedto see a new you tube povider. I have no done any of your turtorials but have watched a few. Can't wait to get started with paint.

susan

Hi Louise, I was wondering if you put a scarlet honeyeater on your 'to-do' list. I notice Roger Fance has some good photos of them. They are a gorgeous little bird. Tia.

Kathleen Gill

Can we please have another Australian bird in the way you used to do them. I really don’t like the new style you have adopted for tutorials. I’m sorry but this is not the style I wish to do for tutorials.

Louise De Masi

Hi Kathleen, I'm not sure what style you're talking about. Can you give me a bit more detail?

Kathleen Gill

I don’t mean to be rude, but I don’t like the lost parts that are in some of your tutorials. I prefer the old realistic tutorials of birds

Kathleen Gill

I love your tutorials. Your earlier ones of hydrangeas, roses, and sweet peas really inspired me to do art again ❤️

Kathleen Gill

Yes, I know you can’t please everyone…

Liliana Klass

Kathleen, it’s ok if you don’t like the lost edges. Can you close them?

Anne Marie Reynolds

Love your tutorials, I would love to see you paint a Poinsettia. Thanks

Gabriela Martinez

This looks beautiful. I've tried several of your tutorials that include this kind of background (vizsla and robin for instance) and they don't look good in my hands. I was wondering if you have a tutorial specifically on this topic. I like this kind of backgrounds, but now I avoid them or else, I will ruin the painting.

Louise De Masi

Thanks Gabriela. I don't have a tutorial specifically on backgrounds. I have found it's best to mix your paint first, paint it onto the wet paper. Lift your board off the table and let it run. Don't fuss with it. Let the paint do what it wants to do. If you don't like painting the washy backgrounds and have been painting for a while - you can still do the painting but paint a wash of the background colour over the subject and leave it off the background. I find it best to wet the paper to do that but keep the water within the edges of the subject. Paint the subject in. Let it dry and then proceed with the rest of the tutorial.

Paula von Bestenbostel

Hi, my name is Paula, Im new here and VERY new to Watercolour. I'm originally from England but now live in Germany. I have been practicing alone and with the Freebies on U-Tube but then I found Louise De Massi!!... What an excellent Teacher she is, so Calm, so funny, and so very good at what she does. I can't wait to get started. Tips are gratefully received.

Nancy Kennedy

Hello all. I'm extremely new to watercolor and even newer to Louise's Patreon site. I found an interesting quote elsewhere and thought it applied to watercolor: “Shadow conceals—light reveals. To know what to reveal and what to conceal, and in what degrees to do this, is all there is to art.” --Josef von Sternberg

Lynn Muster

I LOVE the lost edges, Louise. I also love when you do backgrounds. I need practice in this and appreciate you including them. They are certainly optional for those that don’t want them. Thank you for all that you do!

Sally Murray

Backgrounds are my nemesis, would love a tutorial on different backgrounds and how to achieve and apply them

Zoie McIntyre

Wow!!! (face with wide open eyes and mouth) Louise - just wow!! All the tutorials what a generous and kind person you are. Thank you so much.

Jocelyne Kent

Thank you Louise for your outstanding tutorials. Your method of teaching is most appreciated. You're awesome! I struggles with keeping my Arche watercolor paper wet. I also have difficulty with achieving he ratio of water and paint to my paint brush.

Blanca Bowman

One of my biggest challenges are pencil lines. I try to make the lines very light during the transferring of the drawing. Once the transfer is complete, I use my eraser to gently lighten the lines even more. During the painting process though, the lines still show under the paint, especially when using lighter, transparent paint colors. Furthermore, if use darker paints, I can't see my lines and I lose important details in my painting. Any tricks on how to use pencil lines more effectively?

Jaime George

This index is so fantastic. Having the ability level for each is so incredibly helpful.

Patty L. Bingaman

this listing is fantastic ! thanks a million for making it sure makes it much better to find something. Since I am such a beginner for painting I am always searching for the beginner tutorials

Louise De Masi

I'm glad it's helpful Patty, thank you! It's getting very long now 🥴. Don't forget the index you can use on my website as well. You can see the paintings there.

Lynn’s Patreon

Thanks so much for the index this is an amazing feature.

Elsa Lopez

Under which category are sea-shells ??

Louise De Masi

They are under Miscellaneous Elsa. You can also see them on the index that is on my website. Thanks.

Maksym Kulikovskyi

Guys, am I the only one who has trouble opening the index with links? Everytime I open the link http://www.louisedemasi.com/new-index it just brings me over to the same page I am on now. So I can see the listed tutorials but cant see a picture of a tutorial to click on.

Louise De Masi

Hi Maksym, I just checked the link and it's working. It goes to a page on my website. When you scroll down you can see images of all the tutorials that are linked back here to Patreon. I'm not sure why it's not working for you. Maybe try logging out of Patreon and then back in again.

Maksym Kulikovskyi

Louise, sorry I didn't realize I had to scroll down to see the click able icons🤦‍♂️

Louise De Masi

Lol 😂- no problem at all. I'm glad it's working. 🥰

Mercè

This index is great. Thank you

Mercè

Thank you for making it easy for us to search by topic.

Neha Agarwal

OMG this is the best index to discover easily. Thanks for doing this!

Toni South

This is fabulous!! It makes it so much easier on us. Thank you!!

Sonia Cruz

I wish others would do this, it makes things so much easier.

Caroline Mann

You are really helping me on my watercolor adventure

Louise De Masi

I'm really pleased to know that. Thank you Caroline.

Debbie McNerney-iCloud-login

Louise. I am very interested in how you painted the Cow in the water painting on this page. Where is that tutorial?

Louise De Masi

I haven't completed it yet Debbie. I'll post it on here when it is finished. Thanks.

Marilyn RUSH

Louise, your letter about not giving up came at a good time. I have attempted the Goldfish tutorial, the Light House & Farm House, the Blue Jay, and now the Eucalyptus leaves. I don't consider even one of them a success. I am watching your videos over and over, trying to follow instructions. I have watched most of your videos on YouTube. The paper I am using is a good kind, I think the paints are probably just fine as are the brushed leaving only ME. ONE thing I haven't started doing yet is stretching my paper first. I don't want to give up and won't but I am doing terribly. By-the-way I am an oil painter of many years and have had some success in that area. I am also taking calligraphy classes right now, I started it in college many years ago and want to pick it up again. So I am working on two things at once. I do have plenty of time being retired.

Marilyn RUSH

What do you think? Is there hope for me? I am going back to practice exercises and see if they help me learn to control the paint better. Does the type or brand of paint you're using make a big difference in how it reacts on the paper?

Louise De Masi

Hi Marilyn, It's not easy and it takes commitment and perseverance. I think if you painted in other mediums before using watercolour it can compound the frustrations because you have developed a style of painting in the other medium and it's not easy to change your technique. I hope you keep at it because once you begin to understand watercolour's characteristics and learn how to use those characteristics to your advantage you realise how much fun watercolour is to use. That was my experience anyway. Painting on flat paper is so much more enjoyable and easy than painting on paper that swells and puckers. 💕

Louise De Masi

Yes most definitely there is hope! Keep painting and compare your paintings to your paintings (not others) and you'll begin to see growth. Your paper is your most important art supply. Paint quality differs between student grade and professional grade but I used student grade when I first started and it was ok for me.

Toni South

Marilyn it took me 6 tries before I got a successful painting of the daffodil. Maybe it would help you if you pick one tutorial and repaint it until you are successful. Sure there is hope for you!! Watercolor is a tricky medium. I did a little oil painting also. It is so different. I started with a small starter pack of Daniel Smith paint. It wasn't that expensive and it is very good paint.

Barbara Main

I find that system very useful. Works for me! If at first you don’t succeed….

Susan Luus

Hi Louise do you have negative painting tutorials here? I’ve looked on the index but couldn’t find anything. Are they perhaps indexed by subject?

Eliana Roguznicki ID 28908640

Hi louise!! love your patreon, im enjoying it a lot - just a suggestion it would be great if you could do some fungi tutorial!! thanks!

Bev Butler

Hi Louise, I'm new to patreon, although I have been following you on You tube for a few months. I'm learning so much but I'm struggling with the size of paper in tutorials. I notice that you mostly use A3 Arches paper. I can't afford this, so I have two choices, use arches and reduce the paintings to A4 or use a cheaper paper in A3 size. Which way should I choose, which would be better for a fairly new beginner.. Thanks

Louise De Masi

Hi Bev, paper quality is really important but you don't have to use Arches. Saunders Waterford is less expensive and it's a good quality paper. I have also used Stonehenge Aqua paper. It's less expensive, but it is a bit fragile, in comparison to Arches. It is a good surface to paint on as well. If you want to use Arches, you could reduce the size of the drawing but you may need to reduce the size of the brushes slightly as well.

Bev Butler

Thank you, I agree about using good paper, today I painted on cellulose paper and it was so hard and I hated the result. I'll try reducing the size but stick to good paper. I mainly have smaller brushes so that's not a problem. Thank you for all the great tutorials, I'm working my way through the beginners ones and loving it.

Elena Silveira

Y do the same, smaller paintings, here in Southamerica I buy all through Amazon from USA, and Arches in the cheaper one.

Kaye Saunders

A few months back I accidentally bought a pad of paper that wasn't 100% cotton - and couldn't believe the difference to the result I was getting. It was so bad! I don't know whether Art Spectrum (an Australian brand) paper is available internationally, but if it is, I recommend that you try it. I find their 100% cotton it just as good as Arches - and it is much, much cheaper. I use their A3 size pad (approx.16.5 x 11.5 inches). I almost pay the same price for 15 pages of this paper at 140 lb or 300 gsm as I would for a pad of Arches A3 at 90 lb or 185 gsm (which is a grade of paper I would never use). Art Spectrum's paper is made in Australia but it was created for them by an Italian Paper Mill - and it is well worth a try for anyone in Australia - and internationally if you can access it.

Louise De Masi

That's interesting! Thanks for this information Kaye. 🥰

Julie Hopkins

Thank you Kaye, nice to know. Will give it a go.

Jeanice Crnich

How/where do I share my completed project? Sorry, I’m new to Patreon and painting. I’m using the app but can go online if needed.

Louise De Masi

Hi Jeanice, there is nowhere on Patreon for us to share photos of completed paintings unfortunately. That's why I have created the Facebook group and also the Discord group. You can share photos in each of those groups. I sent you a message when you first joined. The links to those groups are in that message. Let me know if you need them again. Thanks.

Anna Hamilton

Hi Kaye, I'm in WA so will definitely look out for Art Spectrum. Thank you for the info.

Jeanice Crnich

My fault. I should have asked this question on “the other platform”. But I’m glad to hear you are also on Facebook so I will definitely join.

Toni Boyce

Hi Louise,I have been out of action for a few weeks and just logged in to patron, wow your talk and tutorial on. Working with 3 colours,I looked at the two paintings and they look 3d ,I can't wait to buy the book from the Lady Artist. Also I have a big wool

Toni Boyce

Sorry I pressed the wrong button as usual, the big Wooly dog I am going to paint for a friend, some kind of working dog,l am going to use acrylics to give her a big curly coat.My question is (finally) could I use the same techniques às the book colours in acrylics.Toni Boyce.

Louise De Masi

Hi Toni, I think you could use the same colours in acrylic for your dog painting. Thank you!

Robyn Mills

I notice that Jackson Australia stock it in all its sizes. Thanks Kaye I’ll give it a go always on the look out for good paper.

Robyn Mills

Hi Louise, I have just completed a painting which presented me with something I haven’t come across since I started painting. Painting on 100% 300gsm approx A3 size as cut from a sheet, I stretched it etc but when I went to cut it off the board it wouldn’t come off. I’m assuming the glue from the paper tape had run under the paper and it stuck like concrete. After gently dampening it to ease it off my board the paper ripped slightly but enough to Marr it, and it blurred my work slightly …. Has this happened to and do you have any suggestions for remedying this. It’s heartbreaking to have a painting your satisfied with only to have it ruined at the end as you have no idea this is going to happen until you cut it off the board. Cheers Robyn

Louise De Masi

Hi Robyn, yes it has happened to me a few times. Once, it ruined a painting of mine and I was so upset. That was when I was using wooden boards to stretch the paper on. Whenever it happens now (on the gatorbord) I cut through the gummed tape carefully and then I slip a thin metal ruler underneath an area where it hasn't stuck and I gently slide the ruler along the area that has stuck. That releases it with minimal damage. It doesn't happen often but when it does, it's annoying. If it keeps happening to you, try skipping the gummed tape and just use staples to hold the paper down.

Robyn Mills

Thanks Louise for the tip I used aplastic ruler and maybe the flex in it didn’t help either , I’ll have to hunt up my metal quilting ruler. I use gater board so will skip the tape for my next painting. Been there done that so won’t repeat the tape. Robyn

Beverly Amato

Hi Louise. Where can I find your tutorials of the red and green Christmas baubles and cute santa?

Marcie Bader

Hi. I'm no longer getting any emails from you. The only new things I've seen are your YT entriesl. Is there a fix? Thanks.

Sahrish Iftikhar

Hi, I wanted to ask if there is a conversation document for paints? Or should I see the pigments of the colors Louis is using and find closest ones I have on hand/try to mix the closest shade?

Angela Delli

I downloaded one from https://leeangold.com/2017/12/25/pigment-comparison-brand-spreadsheet/ It isn't complete because there's some paints I've tried to look up and they aren't on the sheet but it's the best I've found so far. Don't rely on pigment numbers because they aren't consistent. When looking for pigments when I was wondering about the feasibility of making my own paints, I found there's quite a few different coloured pigments with the same pigment number. Needless to say I ditched the idea of making my own paints fairly quickly.

Pam

Good morning Louise (and everyone). I watched a few of your tutorials on YouTube and found you to be a delight and leaned more in a handful of your videos than from dozen of others teachers combined. I've never been moved to subscribe to Patreon until I found you =) I am new to watercolor painting (I'm more of a digital artist, and acrylic and gouache also). They can all be heavy handed whereas watercolor is a lot more subtle, so I have quite a learning curve ahead of me. I like the way watercolor is an exercise in trust and restraint and the idea of letting it happen, and the magic of that. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and that I am looking forward to the lessons. I am starting at the beginning and taking my time as I have a lot to learn. Thank you for putting such quality teaching out there, Louise. It is really needed and appreciated.

Louise De Masi

Thank you so much for your kind words Pam! I'm happy to hear that you've been enjoying the tutorials and that you find value in my teaching, welcome to the community. Yes you're right, watercolour is a beautiful journey of trust and restraint, and I'm excited to be a part of your learning process.

Connie Wilson

Hi Sahrish, If you haven't already discovered it, you might want to check out Jane Blulndell's website. She has tons of color resources, including color swatches. Here is the link https://www.janeblundellart.com. Under Resources, look for Painted Watercolor Swatches. She groups them by hue and she has swatches of all the colors from each of the main manufacturers. She lists the pigment numbers, as well as the other attributes, i.e. transparency, granulation, light fastness, etc. I have found her website to be very helpful and educational. Best wishes :)

Diane Hoying

Pam, I couldn't agree more! Having taken in-person classes, I've learned more from your Patreon classes than all of them combined!

Dana Hirst

I agree as well! Louise is my very first Patreon account I've ever followed. I've since tried others and none are as high quality and enjoyable as hers.

Faye Fenk

I totally agree with you, its everything about her she makes it so enjoyable.

Rita McAnulty

I just finished my Monarch Butterfly and enjoyed the process.

Toni Boyce

Hi Louise, i have just been scrolling and came across the wedding,i cannot beleive your generosity,i feel like i am a member of your Family,i could feel and see the love you all share.ps i would love to see the bloopers you made trying to say Piper Plover Chick.I can hear the chuckles between you and Dom. Many thanks.Toni Boyce.

Helen

I am a new patron from Ireland. We love our donkeys here. Maybe you could add that animal to your request list. Really delighted with your art and your teaching is second to none.

Louise De Masi

Welcome again Helen. Thank you for the suggestion and thank you for your kind words. I have a reference photo of a donkey I've been wanting to paint for a while. 🥰

Kathleen Gill

I think Dana means a more detailed longer tutorial. I know you are a busy person but I would love a detailed male King Parrot (life like). All the best Louisexx

Yvonne Stanley

I am also longing for a king parrot lesson, in saying that, Louise has already taught me great tips and tricks that I will have a go anyway. xx

Debra Drew

Me too, same request, our little female westie "Gemma" recently passed, even if you could do a full length tutorial of the little male westie you recently had on YouTube . . . You are the best.

Louise De Masi

Hi Jan, Thank you! I didn't film all of it because it was only intended for YouTube but if I have enough I'll make a tutorial for Patreon.

Louise De Masi

Hi Debra, I'll have a look at the footage I took - I didn't film it all when I painted it. If there's enough, I'll make a tutorial for Patreon.

Gwyneth Anderson

Hi Louise. I was very interested to see your post on how your studio looks. But what interested me the most was the fact that you have a cat. One of things I deal with when I paint is stray cat hairs - they are everywhere. It doesn't matter what I cover or try to put up as it's drying - the next thing I know I'm trying to get cat hair out of the area I'm working on. And I just CAN'T let that hair stay in my picture. So I end up ruining (or at least damaging) whatever I'm working on in an attempt to get that hair out of there. How do you deal with all this? I'm interested to know how you would correct whatever mess you made while trying to get hold of the hair. I know this was a stupid question, but thank you for whatever advice you can give.

Louise De Masi

Hi Gwyneth, it's not a stupid question at all because I know cat hair can be a problem. I have a simple answer- Leo isn't in the studio when I paint. He rarely goes into the studio at all. He's too naughty and he bites the brushes when I try to paint and he dabs his foot into the paint water as well. If you get stray hairs onto your painting while you paint- don't try and get them out. Just ignore them - keep painting and remove them when the painting is dry.

Sally Huchingson Salay

Hi Louise, I’m new to your patreon and enjoying it so far. I have a question for you. I’ve amassed so many tubes of paint (25+) from watching various online tutorials, I am now overwhelmed! What colors do you recommend for floral painting? What colors do you currently have on your palette? I am somewhere between a beginner and intermediate level painter. Thank you.

Lynn

Hi Louise, How do you post completed tutorials on chat?

Louise De Masi

Hi Lynn. There is a community tab on the left hand side of this page. Click on "community" and then "chat".

Lynne Watson

hi Louise, im a returning member where do i reaquaint with a painting

Louise De Masi

Hi Lynne, Welcome back. All of the tutorials are on this index here. There is also the index on my website where you can see the paintings and click on them to go to the tutorial. That index is linked right at the top of this post. Is there one in particular you are looking for?

Patricia

Brand new member here and not exactly sure how this works.

Louise De Masi

Hi Patricia, Have you read your welcome message from me? There's information on how it all works there. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll send you a direct message.

Yong Lomax

How can I download instruction PDF file?

Louise De Masi

Hi Yong. Do you mean the supplies list? It's in each tutorial download section at the bottom of the post.

Yong Lomax

I mean step by step PDF like Viola

Louise De Masi

Hi Yong. Only the "step by Step" written lessons have written instructions. These are an additional benefit for Graded Washes patrons. From the home page click on "collections" and you'll see the tab for "Step by Step" tutorials. https://www.patreon.com/c/louisedemasi/collections All the other tutorials are in video format.

christine blahblah

Hi Louise. Where do I post my paintings for these tutorials

Louise De Masi

Hi Christine, Dom here. <- Over on the left hand side there is a community tab where you can post your photo's. We've included links for the Facebook group and discord in your welcome message too. :-)

Xue L

Hi Louise, I'm loving your tutorials! Two requests I hope you might consider: (1) Would you mind consolidating all the materials into 1 PDF file so it's easy to print and refer to (vs multiple files)? Billy Showell does this and it's a lot more convenient (2) Would you consider doing a whole series of Australian flora and fauna? I'm a huge fan of Australia's beautiful nature and would love to paint more of it!

Louise De Masi

Hi Xue L - I have a list of all of the paints I use on my large palette here: https://www.louisedemasi.com/paints. It's under the heading 'What's on my palette'. However, because I have my own curated Schmincke palette now I'll be using the colours specifically from that palette for any new tutorials I make- that will help to reduce the amount of colours patrons have to purchase. You can read about the palette here: https://www.louisedemasi.com/blog/2024/10/8/custom-schmincke-watercolour-set I plan to paint more Australian birds specifically over the next year or two. Are there any particular Australian flora you are interested in learning how to paint?

Sabine

Hi Xue L - I agree with you. The openness of the people as well as the unique nature is a great experience to travel in Australia.

Sabine

Hi Louise - one of the plants I like the most in Australia is the Sturt Desert Pea, also as Sturt Desert Flower, Banksia and Bottle Brushes. I would really like learning to paint these. Get well soon, Louise. Servus from Austria!

Alice

I personally prefer having separate files, partially because it's easy to resize specific things if I want to. I look forward to seeing more Australian birds.

Yvonne Stanley

I would love to learn to paint sturts desert pea, banksia, grevillea, bottlebrush, eucalyptus flowers, hibiscus, wattle. :-)

liz

farm houses, cows, horses, waterfalls, need help on all

Amy

Hi Louise, I hope you're doing well. I was wondering if you might have a sweet pea tutorial planned for beginners please. I have attempted the intermediate/advanced one but it's a little above my current skill level! Thanks so much :)

Louise De Masi

Hi Amy, I don't have one planned but I can make a simpler one for beginners. Thank you!

Linda O'Neill

Hi Louise, I checked the Jackson's Art site just now to see if they had finally gotten a restock of your spiral bound Fabriano 300 gsm cold press watercolor paper. Seems like I've been on the "Notify Me" list for many months. When I enter your name in the Search block, I no longer see that item listed. I also don't see the item if the search is simply Fabriano sketchbooks. Does this mean that the Fabriano spiral bound sketchpad 300 gsm is no longer available? --Linda

Louise De Masi

Hi Linda, Dom here. The Fat Pad is still available in the AU store but not in the UK or USA at the moment. You can use the link from the website to find it directly but I'm not sure when it will become available again in those 2 stores. https://www.louisedemasi.com/paper

Ali Stroud

Louise, I just love your new tutorial library so easy for me to flick through and see what I haven’t done - thank you I’m hoping it gets me back into painting again as a had a bit of a break for over a year.

Regina Evans

This is lovely, Louise. Thank you for sharing xxxx

Pauline Fisher

Great index and very useful reference. Don’t know why I’ve never downloaded it before !

Michele March

Louise, I just signed in and I may have inadvertently subscribed a second time. I appreciate all of your hard work, but can't afford a second subscription! Please check your end and adjust, as necessary! Thanks!

Louise De Masi

Hi Michele, Dom here. I'll send you a direct message.

Sandy

What software to you use for the .zip it says to download but where do you download. The post appears to be on Patreon. Thanks Sandy brede

Louise De Masi

Hi Sandy. Dom here. Most computers have software built in to open the zip. It downloads to your downloads folder on your computer. It should expand/open when you click on it.

Patricia Maraia

Hi Louise - have you ever painted a leaded crystal bowl (with or without fruit inside)? I just received the recent copy of Watercolor Artist Magazine and there is a photo of a leaded crystal bowl, along with a copper kettle, silver creamer. Would love to learn to paint those. Thanks again for all your work and hope your hand is getting better. Pat

Louise De Masi

Hi Patricia, Thank you! I haven't painted a leaded crystal bowl but I've painted a glass bowl. There would be lots of work in a leaded crystal bowl with all the light refraction..... a beautiful subject though. Thank you for the suggestions.

Marie

This list you created is very helpful, Louise.

Pam Stewart

Louise’s schmincke watercolor set

Suzanne

This is very helpful as it is sometimes hard to find your tutorials on the new Patron platform

Louise De Masi

Hi Melissa - The bee tutorials I have are under the heading 'Watercolour insects'. Thanks!

Kelly Wilson

This is so helpful, thanks Lousie! 🎨

Lydia Shemain

Fantastic. Organization beyond compare. Love it. Thanks Louise

River

Thank you for doing this. I am still a bit confused. Was there not a Dalmatian tutorial here?

Louise De Masi

My pleasure. The dalmatian tutorial I made just for youtube however I have had a few that have asked about it so I'm currently making a full length tutorial of it for here. It will be ready in a few weeks.

River

You are amazing!!! Thank you!! I had a beloved Doberman pass away this January. As you can guess, I am just heartbroken. I would

River

Sorry... buttons! Just love to paint him. I was just about to give up on my painting until I found you. Thank you for sharing your talent. You are amazing.

Kerri Atwell

I've noticed all the beginners' examples. When we have moved house (getting all packed up at the moment), I am looking forward to trying these—such a variety. Thank you.

Louise De Masi

Thanks River, I'm so sorry to hear you lost your dog. They are members of our family and we will always love and remember them.

Jeannie Winters

Thank you, Louise. Yes, I'm all set with the best tier. Waiting for my brushes order then I'll be ready to go! It's raining today wish I could paint now! ☹️

Mary Chimento

This list is awesome. Thanks for all the hard work.

Shelly Solle

Is there a way to keep it at the top? Like a pin?

Louise De Masi

It is pinned to the top Shelly. It doesn't seem to work on the app though. It's pinned if you sign in to Patreon with your browser.

Shelly Solle

I'm on the land based computer. This time when I clicked on your picture, it was on the top.

Deborah Lines

thank you so much for the list .... I love it!! Makes life so much easier

Leone Middleton

Seems like I can't finish a message .before it's gone. I was asking about erasers. I have to use dark lines

Louise De Masi

Hi Leone, I have the same trouble - if I hit the return key it sends the message before I am finished. I use an ordinary Staedtler Mars Plastic eraser. Once the paint goes over the pencil there's not much you can do to remove it. You might me see me erasing in the tutorials. All I'm doing there is removing pencil that's not covered with paint. As much as possible try and keep your pencil marks as light as you can. Here is the eraser I use: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/staedtler-mars-plastic-erasers-2-pack-st52650bk2

Robyn

Hi Louise, I saw a tutorial the other day and they used a neadable eraser rolled into a sausage shape and then rolled it over the drawing to lift the graphite. I tried this today with your hummingbird drawing and it worked quite well. Cheers, Robyn

Pam Causey

Very nice thank you!

Christine Carr

Love the kneaded erasers. I find they do not mess up the surface of my paper bc I must press too hard or rub too vigorously with one of the plastic erasers and I was so surprised at how easily the lines lifted. I would of never thought, I normally use an HB or 2B graphite pencil which I find lifts easily

Minx493

Hi Louise, I dont see a community tab for people to post their work. Is there another place?

Louise De Masi

Hi Minx. Someone else asked about this and I have no idea how to add it. I've searched and searched and Googled I don't know how to add a community tab. I would love to add it because it is really needed. I started a private Facebook Group because I knew that a community page was lacking here. If you have any insight about how to add it please let me know. Here is the Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/118323255562001

Minx493

I dont know how to add it, but every other artist on patreon has it on their main page. Perhaps check with patreon?

Louise De Masi

I've done that. I hope they get back to me soon. Thanks!

Minx493

That would be great!! I love tulips also,& plan to do that & the lovely sweet peas! Your fabulous giraffes are what drew me in though, I must confess! I haven't tackled it yet, but is is on my list

Louise De Masi

I've just read on Google that it's no longer available on new accounts. My Patreon page is less than 12 months old. I'd say they don't have it anymore and they want us to start using something like Discord which I have no idea about.

Minx493

I was also glad to hear how dry it may be there and how it effects your painting. It is extremely dry where I live also. It can be a challenge to keep areas wet. I do usually just work a smaller area at a time

Minx493

OH NO!!! I don't know anything about that either!

Minx493

I will log into the Facebook group!

Carol Bonnett Edmondson

Hello Louise, I am so happy to tell you that one of my Mother's Day gifts is your monthly $6 membership. I've been watching your tutorials for about two months and have already learned a great deal. I love your teaching style, and I'm ready to get started. Carol Edmondson

Louise De Masi

That's wonderful. What a thoughtful gift. Welcome Carol!

Marilyn Bird

Hello Louise, I have been watching your videos on You Tube for a few weeks. I am new to watercolour painting and have been exploring different styles. I have discovered that I like the look of loose water colour but I don't really enjoy painting that way. I was thrilled when I discovered your channel. I love the way you teach and have learned a great deal already but I am ready for more. Marilyn from Regina, Canada

Delores Lopez

Dear Louise.I am loving your tutorials.I am waiting for new supplies from Los Angeles. It seems so hard to get really good supplies during this horrible time.I hope to be painting soon.

Margaret B Smith

Dear Louise, I eagerly look forward to each and every posting. With regard to transferring, I use a 2B pencil at the back of the line drawing, then place it onto the watercolour paper. Using a stylus - on the front of the line drawing the graphite lines at the back, transfer onto the paper. However, sometimes they rub off a little making the lines hard to see. So, I use a watercolour pencil with the colour closest to the paint I will use over it and in that way it melts and blends with the paint being used. Once I use the water colour pencil I am able to lift the graphite off and still see where to lay the colour in the place, where needed. It is a little extra ground work but for me, who struggles to see some of the lines, it really helps. However the colour pencil lines should be laid down with a very sharp point and not too heavy. Hope that info helps - some at least. Peggy from Alaska.

oops, sorry I posted the same comment twice and meant to post it under new peas and chili lesson...

Rita Navroth

I just watched your tiger Youtube it was awesome, really fantastic. Please do a Patreon Tutorial for the tigers. Please. :-) Thank you Louise for all your wonderful tutorials.

Leone Middleton

I tried to leave a comment about th e crow and my messaging cut off.. It was my best disconnected I could keep the dark lines.. That was helpful because feathers can make me confused. I.w over and over..I've only posted two things so far.. My work has not been that good yet. But I love the birds. Thank you..

debi carty

Hi Louise! I was wondering how you are at water?-and if maybe you could do a tutorial?

Mary Jo Prickett

Hello Louise! I have learned so much from your tutorials. Would you please consider doing a cactus with maybe a flower on top? I would love to learn how to do that! 😁

Louise De Masi

Hi Debi, I've never tried painting water but I plan to.

Carol Belongea

Good Morning Louise, Your tutorials are soooo helpful. Im not new to watercolor or painting in general but watercolor has always been such a challenge. This has helped tremendously. QUESTION: is their a spray that can seal the watercolor if Im using it on cards where it won't be behind glass.

Beryl pike

Hi Louise. I have just finished my tutorial of the 🦒.

Beryl pike

i loved every minute of it. You are so easy to follow I love the way you paint. I think I will learn a lot from you.

Louise De Masi

Hi Carol, thank you! You can use an archival spray varnish to protect your watercolour paintings. I use Krylon matte varnish but there are other brands.

Carol Belongea

Thank you I use that on Colored pencil.

Nancy Taylor

I thought I just automatically had my $6.00 paid through PayPal. Sorry. I will mark my calendar to do this each month. I know the credit card I have linked with PayPal was updated earlier this year. Sorry, that this was not taken care of. I love your lessons.

Алия Байшулакова

Good day! I am happy to draw with the help of your lessons. Louise, I wanted to ask about the black cockatoo, pink, and blue ... and also the cockerel will there be lessons on them? Where can I watch and draw? Thanks in advance, Aliya

Louise De Masi

Hi Aliya, I don't have a Black Cockatoo tutorial or a Cockerel I'm sorry. All of the tutorials I have made so far are listed here on this index. Thank you. 💕

Catherine Kuehnis

So excited! Just joined today! I was reading your post. I paid through PayPal as well. I also assumed it would automatically charge me each month? So, do I need to pay each month? Thanks!

Louise De Masi

Hi Catherine, I'm pretty sure it's automated. You should be charged again on the 1st of September now and the 1st of every month after that until you decide to leave. Thank you and welcome!

maria blackburn

Hi Louise, just back from Qld after seeing the kids. Just made it in time before they closed the borders again. Now my husband has decided to head off again in our motorhome. Not sure whether I dreamt this but did I see a video of you using new watercolour journals you purchased recently? I was wondering what they were and what you thought of them. It would be great to have something portable to take with me. Please ignore this if it was all in my imagination. Thanks Louise. Oh BTW I'd really love to try painting glass. Any chance of one of beautiful botanicals in a simple glass container. Maria

Louise De Masi

Hi Maria, I'm glad you got to see the kids. I have a new Etchr cold pressed watercolour journal. I like it and I also have a Winsor & Newton watercolour journal. Both are good as far as journals go.

Tricia Commons

Hi Louise🥰. I am back and going to redo grey fantail tutorial. Life is better now so glad to be back.

Cheri Lee Altemoos

Hello I cant seem to find a community page? Are finished paintings allowed here?

Louise De Masi

Hi Cheri, Patreon did away with community pages before I joined. The older Patreon accounts have them but not mine I'm sorry. I wish it was still here. That's why I decided to open the private facebook group.

Cheri Lee Altemoos

Oh that's too bad that they did away with that I thought I was just going crazy I'm going to find your group and join it

Sue Liberto

Hi Louise! I love your classes. Where can I find the Barn Owl tutorials?

Louise De Masi

Hi Sue, Thank you! It's only on YouTube at the moment. I made it before I decided to join Patreon. I plan to make a tutorial of it here for Patreon as soon as I can. It's under construction at the moment. 😀

Michelle G

Being new to your site and water colors this is so helpful! Thank you!

Phyllis Ann Martin

Thank you! This is extremely helpful. Stay safe and by all means be well!

Catherine Kuehnis

I saw on YouTube you mentioned a long list of suggestions from Patreon subscribers. I’d like to add one more to your painting plate 😁. I’d love to see the Little Owl done. It is the unofficial national bird of Greece. I know you have done a gorgeous barn owl, but this one is so beautiful as well. Maybe I’m just into owls 😂. Thanks. PS. Sorry if I posted this to the wrong place. I’m a newbie.

Louise De Masi

Thank you for the suggestion Catherine. I'll put it on my list. I didn't know they were the National bird of Greece. Thank you for telling me.

Rhonda DeHoff

Hi Louise - I was just looking for your succulent tutorials. Will they be here on patreon? Maybe I am just missing them? I only saw a short version on YouTube. Thanks!

Louise De Masi

Hi Rhonda, I am working on one of them today. I hope to have it ready to post tomorrow. The other one I hope to have on here next month. It takes me a month to 6 weeks or so to finish the full length tutorials after you see them on YouTube. All of the tutorials are on this index here so if you can't see what you are looking for here I haven't made it yet. Thanks!

Rhonda DeHoff

Ah - ok. I understand! I incorrectly assumed if the shortened version was available, then the full version was as well. I will await the versions as you release them. Thanks!

Tiffany Kurdziel

My husband is part Greek and I would love paint that owl too! Plus owls are just super cute!

Tatiana Butler

Hi Louse, Thank you for your tutorials. Could you please make a video about your brushes and explain your choice of brushes depending on the tack and size. Thank you.

5 Flavors

Related question. I purchased a DaVinci 00 and 5 based on your blog and I LOVE them. Can't believe what a difference they made. Christmas is coming and my hubby is asking for gift suggestions. I thought about a size 7 or 8 but can use the 5 for the tight places and a good synthetic for the rest, unless you think otherwise. Would you recommend a good liner or rigger brush as a next big purchase? Any thoughts/suggestions?

Louise De Masi

That's great. I'm glad you like them. I use my little 00 for a liner most of the time so I'd go for the #7 or #8. I use my larger Maestros a lot because they hold lots of water and paint but I can also hold them right up on the point to get into tight spaces.

Terry Michaels

Good morning Louise. Just wanted to thank you for being the most detailed, calm instructor! You are exactly what I've needed. I'm surprising myself at what I'm able to produce following along with you step-by-step, with zero formal training and have only started painting in April 2020 (thank you quarantine!). That's all just a shout out!

Louise De Masi

That's wonderful Terry and I"m so pleased! Thank you.

Catherine Kuehnis

Just wondering how or where you get on the private Facebook page?

Louise De Masi

It's here Catherine: facebook.com/groups/118323255562001

River

Thank you so much Louise for your generosity in sharing your amazing talent. I am sure you have so much going on, but please when will you be posting the baby owl tutorial? Thanks again

Louise De Masi

Hi River, I try to do them roughly in the order I paint them as much as I can. This week I'll be posting the Bee Eater, then I have the blue succulent, python and lion to get done before the little owl. Thank you!

Gael Burton

Thanks Louise i am enjoying every minute of learning with you. Love your tutorials .

Dixie’s watercolour

Hi! Louise! Thanks so much for your great tutorials! They are incredibly helpful AND enjoyable! I wondered if your paper ever buckles even slightly while painting with a fair amount of water when it’s stretched the way you’ve taught in your tutorial. I’ve followed your instructions very careful and have been disappointed that it still doesn’t stay perfectly taught while I’m painting. I’m using Fabriano artistico 140 lb.

Louise De Masi

Hi Dixie, thank you! If I work really wet it will rise up a little when it's on the gator board. I think that's because gator board is soft in the middle and the staples have a hard time keeping the paper tight. I dry it with the hair dryer each time that happens and it goes completely flat again ready for me to re-wet and keep painting. I don't remember that happening when I used to use timber boards to attach my paper to. I used timber boards before I discovered gator boards.

Janis Dolan

I don't know if this is useful to you but I tried that stretching thingy and got mixed results. There is nothing like getting really good heavy quality paper if you can afford it, and the thicker the better because it does not buckle. The stretching process was something which I would definitely put me off watercolour painting as I think it a right old chore, so I get the best paper I can afford, it makes me feel more in control, and doesn't buckle.

Carol Factor

Janis, I'm of the same thinking as you are. The stretching didn't work out too well for me. Also, I've invested in quite a few watercolor blocks of paper already so I'd like to use those first.

Heike Trotno

Hi Louise, I've left a comment for you on Youtube ... just now I think, why I did not make it on Patreon .... :-(( Whatever ... I hope you can read it on Youtube also.

Cameron Hartley

Dear Louise, What a surprise. Im reading a new book, The art of painting sea life in watercolor. For me, the hardest part of buying books on watercolor is that some artists use techniques like masking that are really beyond my skill levels. Too much masking. It is relevant to Aaseng's style, which in very cool, but way beyond me. Finding your contribution to this book was definately nice for me. I'm a big fan of the seals. I will say that of the paintings I've done following you, the larger ones, Zebra and Turtle turned out so well that they are framed and on our walls. This year, all of our family have requested paintings for xmas. I am giving the turtle, which my wife loves. So I painted it again. I took some liberties with the water, using cerulean wet on wet with drops of winsor blue here and there along with a mix of sap green and yellow ochre on the bottom to imitate abstractly vegetation. .Love being able to take what ive learned from you and taking it to another level. Looking forward to a new year with you. Have a magnificence Christmas and new year.

Louise De Masi

Hi Cameron, That's wonderful that your family appreciate your talent and hard work and what special gifts your paintings will be. Knowing that makes me very happy. Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and new year too.

Malisa Phillips

Any plans to do an amaryllis?. Been trying to find a large sketch everywhere and can't 😂😭💔🥴🤦🏼‍♀️ I havea great one for a bud. Just not bloomed.

Louise De Masi

Hi Malisa, I have a few photos I took years ago in the Botanic Gardens in Sydney. I've been wanting to paint them for ages. I'll put it on my list for this year.

Deb Dickerson

Hey... the live stream was great!! I wanted to share about an app from the apple app store for iPad or IPhone. It is called Table Trace. A man developed it for his wife who paints. It turns your iPad into a light box and fixes the image so it does not move. It also takes a picture and turns it into a line drawing which you can make darker or lighter for the values. It is great!

Deb Dickerson

I'm sorry... it is called Trace Table.

Joyce C

Thanks so much for mentioning this app. I used it for a photo I had taken (of my chickens) and I think it’s going to work well to provide a decent drawing—quickly.

Sandra Domitrovich

I'm so excited to work on the jacket watercolor. I'll post it IF I do a good enough job on it

Joyce C

Trace Table

Pascale

Wonderfull!!!!..... <3<3

Louise De Masi

Hi Toni, cadmium pigments are extremely bright and light fast but cadmium is a heavy metal and there are always safety issues about using it. They developed the cadmium free colours as an alternative. They are supposed to be just as vibrant as the cadmium colours they mimic. Thank you very much for your uplifting message. I am hopeful that he will be released from hospital within the next week. 🤞🏻❤️

Alison Hendry

Oh my gosh where have I been I have missed the whole grand baby in the NICU! So glad I am catching it at the happy end. I was a delivery RN for 11 years so have my fair share of stories. Be reassured that they have so many amazing things to help wee beasties these days. I am sure he will thrive. Positive thoughts sent your way! And thank you for continuing to be with us during such a stressful time.

pascalle Alain

HI Louise, i am very happy for you ...each time, i visit the patreon page, your community grow..You deserve it...Once you ask what we would like as subject for a tutorial... II just saw on ( i think ) your third post, a hydrangea in green and violet ( date june 3, 2019)...It's a wonderful aspect of a flower...

Chelsea Middleton

Probably a silly question, but do you recommend a specific type of water? (Tap, purified, distilled??)

Louise De Masi

Hi Chelsea, That's not a silly question. I use tap water.

Chelsea Middleton

Thank you, this is all new to me, but I'm enjoying learning more and more each day!

Deb Dickerson

I live in Florida, USA. And the water in Florida is very salty. So you are using salt water basically. Makes for some wild effects.

Charlotte Waymire

It depends on your water. Some areas have very hard water which can lead to excessive granulation.. which could be a good or bad thing depending on what effect you are going for. Some areas here in the US have excessive minerals which can cause discoloration, including iron. Also there is the issue of chlorine which could affect the longevity of the painting over time. In my area I have had tap water actually bleach fabric with long term exposure. If you are concerned about your water, spring water would be the most neutral, distilled is very soft. It may be difficult to get granulation if you desire it with distilled water.

Harry

Just joined your Patreon and I'm having a good look around before beginning one of your tutorials. You have some great stuff here and I really appreciate how you explain techniques and methods. Looking forward to learning a lot. Cheers!

Carol Clark

Also a new member. I was so excited when I found your site and could barely wait until the start of the month to join. I am trying to paint a little dachshund as a gift because the little sweetie will be 13 this month and your tutorial is helping. Can’t wait to try so many of your other tutorials.

Louise De Masi

Welcome Carol. 13 is a good age! I hope you enjoy the tutorials. Thank you. 💕

EvaLena L Hallgren

I have tried out a few other tutorials also, but NONE explains and shows things better than Louise. Her soothing voice is lovely and the camera angle is always perfect. Another patron had the camera on HER every time she spoke so it became hard to follow for me........Louise is the best

Louise De Masi

Thank you very much for your very kind message EvaLena. I really appreciate it.😘

Saloni Chawla

Hi Loiuse i just joined Patreon ! was able to access the site on my laptop - seems the India servers are not working hence nothing worked for the iphone or ipad for me - spent hours today ! Here is hoping to learn so much more from you !

Louise De Masi

Hi Saloni, Welcome again and I'm glad you persisted. If you are using the Patreon app when you are using your phone or your iPad I find you have more success if you log into Patreon through your internet browser. That may fix the problem for you.

Saloni Chawla

Thanks Loiuse i had my son give me a free access to a VPN for one mth - i hope Patreon servers work are updated for the service provider I use here in New Delhi. I have been wanting to do the jacket ! hope to learn from you !

Anita C. Paul

Good Morning Louise. You have the best instruction videos and I've painted several of your paintings and love them. I have a suggestion for a video if you have time. Could you give advice or make a video on "how to pick colors" or "what colors to pick" for a seascape/beach palette? I wanted to come up with a 12-18 color palette that I could use for beach, seascape, sea grass, shells, etc paintings.

Louise De Masi

Hi Anita, Thank you! I've not painted a seascape myself but if I was to I'd probably include a few different blues on my palette: Cerulean, French Ultramarine and a dark blue like Prussian Blue. I'd include some transparent yellows, some Burnt Sienna and probably Raw Sienna and some reds - Permanent Alizarin Crimson is a good one. You should be able to mix a lot of different colours with them.

Charlotte Waymire

Buff Titanium is very helpful for beaches and anything with a sandy texture (rocks, shells), either alone or mixed as it is granulating and "automatically" separates giving lovely texture. You may want to consider potters pink as well, it is similar but a pale rose tone.

Anita C. Paul

Thank-you for the suggestions. Louise, I really enjoy your tutorials. I like that you take the time to explain all the details. It helps a lot. P.S. Happy Birthday :). Saw your post on YouTube. Also, looking for the horse painting tutorial on Patreon, couldn't find it. I need the sketch, because I'm too lazy to draw and paint. LOL.

Louise De Masi

My pleasure Anita. Thank you! The full length horse tutorial will be coming next month. I've got a few other tutorials to post before it.

Shelly Solle

Happy late birthday Louise. How is Dom?

Carole

I'd love to see a tutorial on painting sea shells someday.

Malisa Phillips

They have a palette on amazon. From Art Philosophy. Watercolor confections ☆ currents. All blues and greens. Add some yellow (azo, quin gold, lemon, and a red and brown and you'd have a full palette for oceans. .I typically use winsor newton professional or sennelier and Daniel Smith. But this palette is nice for convenience.

carol clark

I would love to see a pelican tutorial!

River

Yes please more seashells!! I loved your YouTube video. I hope you will put the tutorial here. Thanks

Susan

Me too !

Johannah Gage

I love them all! Someday I'll be able to paint them! (Mom of 5-yr-old twins, whenever I put things down to dry, they usually disappear) But I love watching the videos, Louise, you have a very soothing voice!

Marcela Fernandez del Rio

The Galahs that you have painted was how I fell in love with watercolors, your talent, your voice and your work are amazing. Thank you for sharing all of it :) 🐞

Georganna Risch

How do I get Louise De Masi to post to my computer email account instead of my gmail?

Dale Hallmark

Have a challenge for you if you like. An image I have been interested in trying to paint is a duck of some sort landing on water. However that has too many challenges in one image for me to try without a tutorial. Just something to think about and consider. Regards from Texas!

Louise De Masi

That would be challenging! Thank you for the suggestion Dale.

Kathy

Louise how often do u update this reference list as the horse is not listed not sure if any other.

Louise De Masi

Hi Kathy, Thank you so much for letting me know. It's there now. I keep it up to date. As soon as I post a new tutorial I update this one and also the index on my website. I must have missed putting the horse on here so I thank you for pointing that out.

Sandra Myers

Hi Louise, You have a regular YouTube video from 2019 of a Steller Jay. Do you have a line drawing that you could share? I realize that you probably don't have a complete total tutorial of the Jay but I may be able to create it with your regular youtube video. I also love your first Iris. I've done 2 of your current Iris tutorial. I would love to do the first one you created a few years ago. That is also on your regular youtube channel.

Louise De Masi

Hi Sandra, I can send you a link to download the line drawings. Let me know your email so I can do that. Message me privately if you don't want to put it under this message.

Sandra Myers

my email is myerssandi9@gmail.com - thank you so much!

Sandra Myers

I received the line drawings - you are the best Louise!! Thank you!

Wilwarin

I’ve learned so much from your tutorials that I’m glad that I came across your site. Will you be doing tutorials for human faces? I was also wondering if you would do a tutorial/how to do post for the value study in pencil, like the one you did for the squirrel. It would be really helpful. Thank you!

Heike Trotno

hi Louise,I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your fantastic tutorials on Youtube, Skillshare and Patreon. I've learnt so much by following your instructions - you are for me the best teacher and I am a big fan of your work!

Heike Trotno

I have painted a lot of pictures based on your tutorials, birds lovely animals and beautiful flowers.

Heike Trotno

A few days ago I have found a swedish artist, named Karl Martens - do you know him and his beautiful watercolor birds in large formates? I am sure, that you wil be interest in his work. Take a look at youtube under: "Glimt.tv Karl Martens" I am excited if you know him and how you evaluate his work ;-))) Many greetings Heike

Louise De Masi

Karl Martens is one of my favourite artists. His work is amazing! If I reach a level half as good I'll be thrilled.

Louise De Masi

Thank you very much Heike. That makes me very happy to know. 💕

Louise De Masi

Thank you Deborni- I'm glad. Yes I plan to because it's on my list of things to do. I need time to do some practise first. I also plan to do some drawing tutorials as well.

Margaret B Smith

My subscription changed to $2.00 per month, and since then, I have received no further tutorials. I am puzzled by this. Can you fill me in. Missing those contacts and tutorials. Love your way of presenting each video. Thank you so much for all you do - from Margaret B Smith (Peggy)

Louise De Masi

Hi Peggy, thank you! I had a look and you downgraded to the $2 tier on the 21st of September which means you no longer have access to the tutorials. You need to go into your settings and upgrade to the $6 tier to get access back. Patreon will charge you $4 to upgrade because you have already paid $2 this month.

Kathy Wilden

Hi Louise, just wandering when are you going to post the boat tutorial? Looking forward to it….thanks

Louise De Masi

Hi Kathy, I'm still working on it. I'll be posting it this month.

Heike Trotno

Happy New Year dear Louise with a big THANK YOU for all your tutorials, helps and teachings! Just I've read the comment of Patricia Rapisarda and she is speaking right off my heart ! I've been a patron also for over one year. My english is not so perfect, so I like to share all the things Patricia said. My wishes for you: Have a great and lovely Year with your family and friends and your work ... and stay so as you are: wonderful, warm and a great teacher. Thank you Louise ... best wishes from the bottom of my heart

Vee

Dear Louise, I would like to wish you a belated but very blessed and joyful Christmas and New Year. Thank you for you lovely message - I trust you had a wonderful time with all your loved ones. Thank you for the lovely pictures of your precious little grandson - he is such a treasure! Enjoy your very well deserved little break. I would like to thank you for what you have meant to me this past year - your stunning and inspiring tuition has been a lifesaver in more than one way...

sheridan leslie

Do you have a foxglove tutorial? I thought I saw one on YouTube but it wasn't a tutorial and I would love to see and try that study. Thanks for all your videos, your a wonderful teacher 😊

Louise De Masi

Thank you Sheridan. No I've not made a Foxglove tutorial yet I'm sorry. I can add them to my list. 💕

Kay Henrych

Any chance a peacock tutorial? Want to paint a small house warming gift. Was praying hard for your recovery in January. From snowy Colorado your art student still intermediate level.

Louise De Masi

A good suggestion Kay. I'll hunt for a decent reference photo. Thank you!

Lori

I really like the mallard duck that you painted awhile ago. Any chance that one or another could be made into a tutorial? Love birds of all kinds and you’ve done a good selection of them!

Maura Leusder

I would love a duck, or a chicken! I miss some of the larger more elaborate paintings you used to do

Louise De Masi

I love that one too. I'll add a duck to my list. Thanks Lori.

Louise De Masi

I'm going to paint a chicken today Maura. Great minds think alike!

Maura Leusder

Oh amazing! Looking forward to it!

Kay Endsley Art

So far I have painted the sunflower, your cute little bees, and the daisy. Your tutorials are absolutely fantastic!

Katherine Laise

Thank you so much. This is very helpful and I particularly appreciate the skill levels after each project. :)

Zach Pearson

I have painted the beginner daffodil, the beginner chili and snap peas, and the beginner pansy. I love them all! I love your style. Do you have a post or video about how to assess when someone may determine themselves as beginner-intermediate or intermediate?

Louise De Masi

Thanks Zach. I'm glad you enjoyed them. No I don't have a post about that, I'm sorry. I find it difficult myself to classify the tutorials into different levels. With the beginner tutorials I try to choose a simple subject that won't take too long to paint and I try to explain everything I'm doing. With the beginner/intermediate tutorials the subject might be more difficult to paint. It might take a bit longer to complete it etc. I advise patrons to watch the video all the way through before they attempt to paint it. That way they can determine for themselves whether they think it might be too difficult for their skill set.

Anoosha Redd

Hi, I'm a new patron and am really excited to start learning from your inspiring tutorials. I would like to make a request, if that is okay. Would you please do a watercolor landscape tutorial? It would really be so helpful to me. Anyway, thank you for your amaazing work!!

Louise De Masi

Thanks so much Anoosha and welcome again. Thasnk you for the suggestion too. I'm not a landscape painter I'm afraid. I'll never say I'll never have a go but I have so many other things to paint first.

Anoosha Redd

Yes, I understand. Thank you soo much, I was so excited to see that you replied :) 💓

Jennie graham

Iam totally new to this looking forward to learning.

ARLENE EVANS

I really enjoy watching Louise do her watercolor magic. Looking forward to learning her painting techniques.

Thank you for your videos, I really appreciate the time and effort you put into making them. May I ask if you use a water soluble graphite for your original sketch? If not what grade hardness are you using, your line work seems to just dissappear into your watercolor. This is something I really struggle with. Could I be just too picky on myself? Thanks

Louise De Masi

My pleasure and thank you. I usually use an HB pencil on watercolour paper. Sometimes I'll use transfer paper to trace my line drawing on as well. I try to keep the drawing fairly light. I'll lighten any really dark lines before I start painting. After I have painted I remove any pencils lines that aren't covered with paint with my eraser. Those that are covered with paint remain though. I don't let it worry me too much. Pencil lines are a part of painting with watercolour. If there are any still showing that draw my eye I sometimes get my eradicator brush to gently rub over them but that will remove paint as well so it needs to be done in an area that doesn't matter.

Thank you. This list is extremely useful.

Hi Louise. Sorry to bother you again with another question, but I was wondering if at your convenience, you could make a video about how you think through a palette for a particular project. I’m working on the peony. I know why you chose the contrasting blue color, but I don’t know how you arrived at that particular blue, and how you decided to strategically place it in the painting. It’s great to follow along with your decisions, but much more difficult to make those decisions on our own. I think it would benefit all of us to know how to think through this process. Thank you in advance.

Louise De Masi

Hi Diane, No problem at all. A lot of it is intuitive with no thought but I can certainly think about the way I think and try to communicate that more. I'm actually writing a script for a tutorial at the moment where I'll be talking about the colours I would choose as a beginner/ temperature bias and it's importance/ the colour wheel etc. Thank you for the suggestion.

Kamila

Hello Louise , can you tell me please where can I post my paintings painted following ypue tutorials, pls? Thank you

Louise De Masi

Hi Kamila, Unfortunately Patreon no longer have a community page that we can use so I started a private Facebook group. Students have create tutorial albums in the group where you can post your paintings. It's here if you'd like to join: facebook.com/groups/118323255562001 Thanks

Kamila

Thank you so much Louise. I have been accepted to this group on Favebook. Thank you
