Linda

This was a great tutorial, Louise. I am painting my own little Fairy Wren at the moment and I found a lot of this one helped. Such a beautiful Chickadee🥰.

Deb

Plain and simple, thank you.

Coleen

I love to hear the birds in the background. Completely fitting when you’re painting a bird.

Linda Carter

Thank you so much for helping this newbie paint this lovely Chickadee (I am going to frame it). I live in Canada and they are native to my area. You are an excellent instructor and you have given me a lot of confidence!!!!

Chantal

I tende to leave comments about my completed tutorials as I post my finished painting. But today I just realized that this would be an even more appropriate place to do so. ☺️ This was a great tutorial with the right amount of challenges for me. ☺️ Flicking of the brush to create little feathers, wet on wet, wet on dry and the lovely blooms…

Patti Kehl

Thank you for the new tutorials!! How are you feeling? is your leg healing better now? : ) I'm praying for you. Chickadees are among my favorite birds! I can't wait to try this one. : )

Louise De Masi

Thank you very much Patti. You are very kind. It's much better. I hope you enjoy painting the Chickadee. 💕

Lydia Shemain

Louise, what a cute little chickadee, you really are an expert at painting feathers. I can feel the fluffy soft feathers. Absolutely beautiful.

wendy bisaillon

Up until 2AM watching your you tube channel and today I joined and painted this cute little guy. So much to learn, and I love your teaching style. Thanks. Can't wait to tackle another.

Jennifer Reynolds

I love this little guy! You don't have to apologize for the bird sounds in your yard. I was in Australia in 2006 and was amazed at all the wild cockatiels and cockatoo's there. Big white one's with pink head feathers - we don't have these types of wild birds in California. Thanks Louise for the wonderful tutorials!

Karenlise Black

IHI Louise, thanks for this involved and informative tutorial. Question: where is windsor violet used. Could I use Schminke Cobalt Violet Hue or BRILLIANT blue violet instead.

Louise De Masi

Hi Karenlise, Well that's an interesting question. I just had a quick look and I'm thinking I didn't use Winsor Violet 🤔. I must have put that on the list by mistake I'm sorry. I'll take it off the list. Thank you for pointing that out to me. Let me know if it is in there....... but I can't see where it would be. Sorry for the confusion. I must have had a senior moment. 🥴

Karenlise Black

That’s OK. I added a bit into the shadow under bird. I posted my results on FB page. Your ideas and tutelage is really helping me improve. But I tend to be a bit impatient, what do you do to avoid this.... have two projects on the go at once, or just resort to the hairdryer?

Louise De Masi

I use the hair dryer a lot. It's always plugged in beside me when I'm painting. I usually focus on one painting at a time. Most of my paintings take me a few days to complete. Painting can be exhausting, mentally, so I take lots of breaks. I'll work for half an hour or so and then I'll go and do something on the computer. Then I'll go back and work for another half hour etc.

Yolande Bell

I'm really enjoying doing the tutorials. I've done 3 now And am getting more confident with the techniques.

Barbara Ford

Specifically, what liner brush are you using?

Louise De Masi

It's a Da Vinci Maestro series 35 size #2/0. It's on the Supplies list.

Barbara Ford

Of course! Thank you! I have the supplies list right in front of me. Duh.

BritishBassSlammer

Louise, first amazing tutorial! Learnt a bunch and reignited my passion for watercolor. It’s been years since I sat and just painted! Thank you!

Margret Martin

Great chickadee - one of my favorite birds too!

Karin Stanbery

Hi Louise, I hope you can give me a tip. When I apply another layer of black over the black i seem to be getting a bit of a lift in color. Everything is totally dry, then I apply the water and then more pigment. The result is blotchy uneven wash. Help? Thanks!!!!! X

Louise De Masi

Hi Karin, You will get a small amount of colour lift but it could be your paper that's making it worse. What paper are you using?

Karin Stanbery

I'm sorry i didn't answer promptly, i am using Arches 140 lb. Thanks for your fast response! you are the best and I just enjoy learning from you so much!! I think i may be using too much pressure and also looking too closely.XXX

Louise De Masi

That was my next question. I use soft brushes and a soft touch. Gently glide the brush over the paper and I sometimes use a hairdryer to make sure it's completely dry. 💕

Wendy Kelcey

I watch and rewatch ( and sometimes rewatch again!) before I attempt! I learn so much. I too am impatient, and I need to remember to take paintings over 2 or 3 days. Thank you for your great teaching!

Louise De Masi

My pleasure Wendy. Thank you! I think that's an excellent way of learning. Watch as many times as you need first before you try.

Wendy Kelcey

Although I try to do sketches myself, there are some that are too intricate. I’ve heard of a light board. Is there any particular kind that you would recommend? Thank you Louise!

Louise De Masi

Hi Wendy, Dom made me one years ago which was great but then I bought a cheap one from eBay and it was terrible. The switch never worked properly and I had to keep jiggling it to make the light stay on. I don't remember the brand. I've seen a good review of a Huion A3 Light Pad. Maybe that's one you could look at.
