Hi everyone,

Here is the Sweet Peas tutorial. I've divided it into three - half hour videos. This is Part 1.

Part 2 is here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/36295475

Part 3 is here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/36295592

All of the files you need are attached below.

If you don't have the colours I used substitute them with any pinks and magentas you have that look similar.

I have a short Tulip tutorial to upload tomorrow (hopefully) that is aimed at beginner/intermediate painters. The flying Hummingbird should be finished next week for you and I have a new frog tutorial that's coming soon as well.

Have fun!

Louise

I’m really hoping my painting turns out because I LOVE Arches hot press! Louise, I tried hot press (other brands) a few times, and hated it. I’m sure some (maybe all) of it has to do with learning from you. I stretched my paper, something I didn’t do before. The colors are beautiful, and blend so easily. I’ve only got about 3-4 petals done, and I probably shouldn’t get excited so soon, but I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying this.

Louise De Masi

I just love your enthusiasm Anne. Thank you! I hope the painting went well.

Anne Watman

It’s beautiful. I posted it in the Discord group.

Lori Huhn

what is the link to the facebook we can post on

Wendy Kelcey

Wonderful tutorial Louise! Your eye for seeing all of the various colours just AMAZES me! Love it!

Rainkatt

Very pretty, looking forward to it!

Cathy Paschane

What consistency is the pigment when you are painting? Waterly, milky or ? It seems waterly.

Desert Morning

The audio doesn't seem to be working on this video. Is anyone else having this problem?

Louise De Masi

It's usually watery. I add more pigment to the watery mix if I want it darker. When I want the colour to be really dark I'll wipe my wet brush over the pigment.

Desert Morning

Never mind.....it was my system. Sorry %^}

Lydia Shemain

That is so pretty. Louise, such a pleasure to follow you. You include every detail, amount of pigment you use, the amount of water, how wet your paper is — there isn’t a detail you leave out. You even tell why you are doing something — so thorough. I’m enrolled in another watercolour school because it’s a different style of painting, the artist is someone I admire but am so frustrated the instruction is so fuzzy. Thank you for being the GREATEST teacher.

Amy Kenyon

Yes! Ive been excited for this one Louise! Thank you!

Louise De Masi

Thank you very much Lydia. You always take the time to write lovely comments. I appreciate it. I'm sure there are plenty of things I'm leaving out. Please let me know if I do forget something. 💕

What a pretty painting, it has inspired me to get back to painting which I have not been able to do as I had knee replacement surgery in February and recovery & physio has been slow and painful. Not able to sit or stand for more than 10 mins at a time. Seeing what tutorials you have coming is exciting and this sweet pea one is just what I need to get started. Thanks for another great tutorial.

Marijke de Boer

Such beautiful delicate flowers - you got me fooled thinking we were going to do some vegetables! This is just so inspiring:)

Debra Sullivan

I actually let out a little squeal when I saw this tutorial. I love sweet peas and you've painted them so pretty. Thank you Louise.

Nathalia Pillibossian

I make these flowers using the tutorial... perfect !!! I would like to post somewhere and get some feedback. Thank you.

Louise De Masi

Hi Nathalia. That's so good! There's nowhere here on Patreon to do that I'm sorry. That's one of the reasons I made the private Facebook group. If you use Facebook you're welcome to join and post a photo of your painting there.

Marty Talley-Sides

Aaaahhhhh! Just finished the sweet peas! Way harder than I thought!!! But I outlined them with pen and they look better!

Lydia Shemain

Louise, when you painted one of the petals in Quin. Rose you dropped the Burnt Sienna at the side and let it mingle — you said you were being careful not to create mud. Is it that certain colours can’t be dropped on top of each other — eg ok to drop windsor violet on rose, or green on yellow, but certain colours can’t. Am I confusing you?

Louise De Masi

Hi Lydia, I experiment with colours and never really know until I do it what it will look like. When I say I don't want to create mud I mean I don't want to mix the colours together to create a dull drab colour, rather I want to see two distinct colours gently touching one another on the paper. So I drop one colour onto another and I try not to disturb them too much with my brush. Complimentary colours will grey when you mix them together.

Annika

Thanks Louise. This was a terrific tuyorial...... as usual !!! :)

Kristi

Thank you for sharing this!

I’ve really enjoyed painting these sweet peas. I started painting in lockdown after my daughter brought me a tin of paints, I can’t believe how well I am doing definitely down to you Louise thank you so much.

Susanne Posteraro

I love the sweet peas. My father grew them for me when he was alive, and I think he would have been very happy to see my painting. I love your careful, thoughtful tutorials, and the way you explain what you are doing and why you are doing it. I know I am improving and have taken on a few projects from my own photos, but it seems I learn something new with every tutorial so I'll keep on trying new ones. Thank you!

Louise De Masi

Thanks so much Susanne. I'm glad you are learning and improving. 💕

Kim Rafuse

Love the sweet peas but could you enlarge the line drawing to 2 pages in A3. I think that's the terminology. I just bought 10x15 inch paper and would like to paint bigger pictures like you do.

Kim Rafuse

Just finished, that was so fun and you are the best teacher ever. Next I'm attempting the bald eagle.

Kileen P Smith

Hi Louise. I just finished my sweet pea painting! I'm trying to use more pink, as it's my least favorite color! I did the apple blossoms last week, and it turned out pretty. I did change the placement of the sweet peas to look like one sprig, and enlarged it. The finished painting is 9x21". I am really happy with how it turned out. Thank you!

Louise De Masi

Hi Kileen, that's wonderful! It's good that you were able to change it and I'm glad you are happy with it.
