Hi everyone,

Happy July! I hope you are happy and well.

I'm popping in to let you know what I've been working on over the past few weeks.

You might remember the Lilies that I painted....cough.....struggled with on Aquaboard. I didn't paint the entire painting again on paper. Instead I painted one lily in watercolour and I also painted it in acrylic paint. I wonder if you can tell which one is acrylic and which one is watercolour. I have made a video where I paint the watercolour version in the first half and the acrylic version in the second half. I'll have that video ready for you soon. Beginners should be able to manage painting the Lily in watercolour.

I have also done a really simple pen and wash butterfly and moth in my visual diary for the beginners. That tutorial will also be ready soon.

I have the pink Water Lily to edit for you and a lot of you have mentioned that you'd like to paint a Heron so I did a study the other day. I was working out colours and placement and how to paint the feathers etc. Now that I have the study I will paint it again with a few alterations. I also have the simple Goose painting with three primary colours that I'll have ready for you this month. Today I started painting a little Harvest Mouse balancing on some poppy seed heads so I hope that turns out ok. Some of you have mentioned a Lion to me as well to go with the other African animals so I've been thinking about too. In addition to all of that I want to try to fit some more time in this month to do some landscape practice.

I'm keeping busy. I hope you are too! Stay well. Stay happy.

Louise

My goodness, you’ve been busy! I think the watercolour lily is the one on the right. I sure appreciate all the options.

Linda Cogdill

I’m looking forward to all your new projects!

Wow you are truly busy! I absolutely love the heron and can’t wait to see your harvest mouse as I’m sure that will be just the cutest. And thank you so much for putting more beginner paintings on there. I painted the dragonflies and that was the first painting that I actually framed and gave to my mom. I may even post it out there. I have yet to post any paintings as I’m trying to not be so hard on myself and not as critical. I’m such a perfectionist and I’m learning how to get past that and let the watercolors work and to stop trying to work the watercolors myself. This has been a challenge but I’m so much better than I was about it. I had bought some of that aqua board as it was one of Jerry’s Artarama’s try it sale where everything in the try it category is 1.25-2.50 so you just can’t go wrong there but boy was I in for a surprise. When I had bought it I thought it looked like it would be great to work on but that was wrong thinking. I gave up way before you did (although I know you worked on through it and I thought it turned out absolutely beautiful as all your paintings do) but I think I’m gonna set that stuff to the side. Now I do like the crescent cold press boards and not having to stretch the watercolor paper even better and it was another one of Jerry’s Artarama try it sales so I bought several during that time. Thank you again and happy painting 🥰💕

The little mouse on poppy seeds sounds like such a beautiful sweet scene, hope it makes it into tutorials but you sound soooo busy with all these things going on. I am so glad I joined patreon with you 🤗

Margret Martin

You are definitely one busy lady - I'm excited to see all the tutorials you have for us, especially the goose, the heron and the mouse - I'm very bad at flowers so should make a point of trying them. I can't tell the difference between the watercolor and acrylic lily - that should be a very interesting tutorial. I have some acrylics (not many - and have not painted with them in quite some time - was never great, I did tole painting). Looks to be a fantastic July - Thank you!

Hi Louise! I so love your enthusiasm and positivity. I have done a couple of your skill share classes and love those and these Patreon tutorials. When i started painting after I retired. I worked a lot longer then I planned to, I was 69, about 6 years ago. It was never my goal to become "an artist" when i started painting. I just thought that it would be fun to do and it was and is. Today, I painted with more confidence then I ever thought I could. I have followed so many artists, paid to take their courses, and viewed so many videos I can't count. Since I started following you on Patreon my work has taken a new path. Your tutorials are perfect for my style of painting and I do as many as I can , or my wife will allow. She says she is a watercolor widow. I've never been I interested in painting flowers before now. I'm going to spend as much time as I can on them. The techniques and skills I'll learn will be transferable to other watercolor projects I'll undertake. Thanks for your ability to teach in a way that makes learning fun.

Louise De Masi

Thank you for your message Cameron. That's wonderful and I'm very happy that I have helped you. Your words motivate me to keep at it. Watercolour has bought so much joy to my life I am very grateful that I have platforms like this where I can share the joy with others. Lol....maybe your wife will become interested in painting too.

Louise De Masi

Thank you Claudia. It's the best medium! No other medium gives me the same pleasure that watercolour does.

Louise De Masi

My pleasure Joel. I'm looking forward to seeing your paintings!

Louise De Masi

That's so good... makes me happy. It keeps me sane too. I don't know what I'd do without it.😘
