Hi everyone,

This is the Goldfish tutorial. It's short, not too difficult and lots of fun to paint. I hope you enjoy it.

The files you need to complete the painting are below my message here.

I've included an enlarged line drawing spread over two pages if you need it.

The reference photo of the Goldfish was taken by Quentin Le Loarer from Pixabay.

Here is the link to the photo if you'd like to download it yourself: https://pixabay.com/photos/fish-goldfish-aquarium-swim-sea-4507143/

I'm still working on the Heron tutorial for those who are waiting on that one. I'll be posting that tutorial next (when I've finished it).

Have a wonderful weekend.

Louise

I’m about halfway done, and it’s a wonderful tutorial, but your idea of “beginner” and mine are a lot different! This is challenging! I’m not complaining at all, but I definitely plan on doing it a second time.

I finished this, and it turned out a lot better than I expected. The hardest part (as I suspected) was the fins. But, as usual, I learned a lot, and now I have another tracing done, my paper is stretched, and I’m just waiting for it to dry. I think I’ll practice the fins on some other paper in the meantime.

Hi Louise, I’m new here and was wondering where are places in the video I can stop if I can’t paint the entire fish in one setting? Thank you so much and I have learned so many things that others aren’t teaching already! Love your work and tutorials.

Louise De Masi

Thank you for you kind words. You can stop wherever it is convenient for you. Just take a note of the time stamp on the video so that you can return to it later.

Joy Black

I fell in love with this goldfish when you posted a picture of it the other day. I am so excited to see this as a tutorial and I can't wait to paint it!

Julie Schwindt

I did my happy dance when I saw this one Louise, THANK-YOU!

Desert Morning

I LOVE this tutorial. There is so much in it. Thanks.

Allison

I'm so excited for this because I really want to try beta fish as well and will learn new techniques!

Amy Kenyon

Beautifully done Louise! I tend to overwork my watercolor paintings and your videos have been a tremendous help to me to resist every detail. Thank you!

Liliana Joint

I cannot wait to try it! Thank you, thank you.

Jessie Doherty

Love this one, can't wait to try it!

I just did this Louise and really enjoyed it! I love looser styles of panting and letting the paint do it's thing. Blooms and messes can be so beautiful. I hate wasting paper so I painted in on the back side of another painting and stretched my paper a bit it in a way I accidentally discovered. I'll post it tomorrow when it's fully dry. Loved the colors and watery effects, thank you so much Louise. I told my husband today, "I miss hearing from Louise, I need a tutorial today." I try to watch one every few days to learn and paint with you. Sasha

YESSSS ... This fish is so beautiful and I am happy to paint it at next. Thank you Louise for this nice tutorial!

Over the last couple of days I made myself crazy painting my first (and maybe my last!) house portrait - too many little details. This painting was the perfect antidote - bright colors, a loose style and fairly quick. I feel so much better now!

Patricia Espinoza

Fun to paint as always...just beautiful... Thank U Louise!!!

Ann Duquette Vancoillie

Hello from Canada. I am new to watercolour. I am enjoying immensely. Thank you for the opportunity to learn some skills. I am hoping some day I am as talented as you are!

Jacqueline Dyke

Enjoyed this tutorial Louise even though it was trying under away from home conditions - travelling in caravan. Looking forward to seeing your next one. Thanks

Karin Stanbery

I’m having problems with steaming the last couple days. It keeps freezing

Louise De Masi

Hi Karin. It's usually an internet speed problem. I’m not very technically minded but Dom told me that on YouTube when the internet speed is slow YouTube will lower the resolution on the videos to allow for the lower speed. Vimeo doesn’t do that. The videos on there keep playing at the normal resolution so if internet speeds are slow for any reason you get that buffering or the little spinning wheel. I have to put my full length tutorials on Vimeo because they are protected there. On YouTube unlisted videos can be downloaded by those who know how to do it.

Nitika Kirsebom

This was my second tutorial. First being the bees. I had fun painting both especialy the goldfish. I need to work on the flicking motion a bit more. Somewhere you asked for feedback on subject matter if I remember correctly. More fish / marine life tutorials would be nice. From the Great Barrier Reef maybe. :-))

Delores Lopez

Glad the vimeo issue was addressed.I had some stop and go issues myself.

Shelly Solle

Working on this one myself. Really cute Louise. Another great tutorial. Thank you.

Louise De Masi

Thank you Shelly. I'm glad you are enjoying it. 💚

Lydia Frazier Bosley

Hi Louise, I just finished the goldfish, love the way the yellow and red combine and interact on the paper! Had a little cat's tongue brush so I got to experiment with that too. I'm happy with this one! Thanks for the always expert instruction and tips! 💜💛💚

Elena

Hello all! I am new here. I am having a wonderful time painting along! Although struggling with learning how to stretch paper, I have to confess...what a nightmare!

Elena

experiencing great joy and deep gratitude for all you share, Louise. What an amazingly talented artist AND teacher you are! Gracias!!

Louise De Masi

Hi Elena, welcome! Let me know what you are having trouble with in regards to stretching the paper. I have a video here on Patreon where I demonstrate what I do.

Elena

You are so kind! I just need to practice :)

aleli

hello! I tried it today, and the biggest challenge I had were the fins, and overworking the entire image. But i will give it another try.

Barb

Thank you! I loved this tutorial.
