Hi everyone,

I hope you're well and keeping busy. I thought I'd pop in to let you know what I'm up to.

Today I've been working on this Budgerigar. I am working on a piece of Langton watercolour board by Daler Rowney. It doesn't need stretching. It's the first time I've used it. It's a bit different to working on Arches and Fabriano paper. The paint doesn't sink down deep into the layers and I have struggled with it in a few places. I'll let you know what I think of it when I'm finished. I'm videoing this painting so I hope it turns out ok and I can make a tutorial for you.

I am currently working on the Lotus (water lily), Kookaburra on the post and a beginner tutorial with some tree trunks painted negatively. I also have footage of 2 cats and an English Robin ready for me to start editing. My son edited the Lotus and Kookaburra footage for me so they are ready for me to voice over. The voice over takes the longest to do. An hour long tutorial usually takes me an entire day. Then I spend the next day checking it all and 're-voicing' over the bits I don't like.

Yesterday I took three paintings down to the framer to be framed. I want to enter them into a local art competition here where I live so I'll show you some photos of them when I get them back.

I love seeing what you are working on in the Facebook group. You are all so talented and creative. Stay safe and have fun! 👩🏼‍🎨

This is stunning! Love it! You mention a Facebook group, I would love to know more about it as it sounds as though it is a place for us to post our paintings. Thanks 💕

Thanks Jennifer. It's a private group here: facebook.com/groups/118323255562001 You are welcome to join. There's no community page here on Patreon which is a shame so that's why I started the group.

Hey Louise I'm a huge fan of the Langton Board. Any chance you can share where you managed to source some from - I always have huge troubles finding any in stock, and shipping to Port Macquarie is always a bit expensive, but I do love not having to stretch (never learned). Also, can you share the local art competition - I'd love to go check out your work in person...with the added bonus it might get me out of the house :-)

Diane Hicks

Oh and the budgy looks gorgeous :-)

Louise De Masi

Thanks Diane. I bought it from The Art Scene https://www.artscene.com.au/Shopping/search/langton%20watercolour%20board/3 but I'm not seeing it there anymore. Jacksons in the UK have it though : https://www.jacksonsart.com/en-au/daler-rowney-langton-watercolour-board-30x22in-hot-pressed I'm using rough here for the Budgie. The art show is the Coffs Coast Art Prize put on by the Coffs Harbour Art Council. Exhibiting - 18th Sept to 17th Oct Level 2 Coffs Central Harbour Drive.

I feel so fortunate to have found you and your lovely art work. You are an incredible teacher & artist and you make it look so easy. Even though it's challenging, you have a gift at breaking down these little pearls of wisdom into a lesson plan that leaves us with final project we can all be proud of. Thank you for sharing your gift, your passion, and your wisdom. It truly brings joy to my heart ❤️ 🤗 ❤️

Thanks Louise! I have bought it from Jacksons UK so far, but the shipping is usually pretty tough, but I'm just budgeting to cope with that. Was hoping to get it locally, but that's ok. Will book in a trip up from Port to Coffs to check out the exhibition, thanks!

They look fun. What is the difference between a wallaby and a kangaroo ?

June Covey

Mainly their size. Kangaroos are larger. Their colouring differs too and also their teeth.

Hi Louise , I am a Software professional, I have done some video editing for a few videos not professionally though. I will be happy to help you whenever you think you and your son are a bit overburdened. Will be happy to help.

Louise De Masi

Thank you very much Divya. That's very kind of you.

Your tutorials are excellent. Such beautiful work. I just photographed a friends dog I was watching and Im going to attempt to paint her in watercolor. Without your tutorials I probably would not have considered attempting it.

Mia Bryant

I am excited about this one <3

Louise - You work so hard for us!, it is much appreciated, but I hope you take some time for yourself to rest and have some fun. The budgie is adorable, as are both cats, and I feel like I have a great wealth of challenges facing me! I tried the goose yesterday but realized I couldn't do it on a small (9" x 12") size of paper so I will have to be brave and cut a more suitable size from one of the full sheets I've had waiting... in the meantime I flipped the goose attempt over and will try the dragonflies on the other side. Learning to use watercolors is such a perfect activity for this time of limited freedom, thank you for all you do!

Lori
