I love all the blue shades you used in the jean jacket. The boy looks amazing! Thanks for being such an amazing art teacher and for all your inspiration.

Hi Louise. I just finished painting "the jacket" - loved it! I didn't master the blonde hair but the painting turned out so well. I am amazed at the jacket - it would not have occurred to me to use so many colours. It definitely makes the painting pop! I will have my first grandchild soon so I am practicing painting children. Thanks for the great instruction.

Louise De Masi

That's wonderful! Thank you Monique. Congratulations too! Grandchildren are the best!

Well, I've declared myself done with this tutorial! I love trying to paint fabric, but I was "fussing and fiddling" with those little hands for far too long - I must have lifted the color out and did them again 6 times! I did paint this smaller than you - about 5 x 8...it probably would have been easier to do it larger! I printed the reference photo out 8 x 10, so I could see everything better! Thanks for a wonderful tutorial!

Lydia Frazier Bosley

Very cute, Louise, looks like fun! Thanks for all your work on this 💜💛💚

Karen Turner

WOW...you did a great job! Lots of work on this one but finished product is stunning....thanks Louise...your the best!

Now that I've watched all the way through, I must say again how I marvel at your powers of perception, the acute distinctions between shadow and light, and the fine observance of many shades of color... you are wonderfully talented, Louise, we are so lucky to have you as a teacher, thanks so much for sharing your gifts! 💜💛💚

Louise De Masi

Thank you Karen. I really enjoyed painting this one. 💕

Just watched both parts to see what I’m in for. It’s so precious. Thanks, Louise!!!

Lynn Wiley

Hi Louise: Can you tell me how to locate the index of your tutorials? I am looking for the larger giraffe tutorial. Thank you. Lynn

Hi Louise! I know this message does not pertain to this tutorial, but I once saw, I think it was on YouTube, you had painted a dessert. I think it was some kind of strawberry tart. Do you think that you might ever do another tutorial like that? I would love to learn how to paint something like that. Thanks!

Louise De Masi

Hi Katherine, that wasn't me I'm sorry. I've never painted food other than some vegetables. I saw some cupcakes and different desserts on my Instagram feed the other day and the thought crossed my mind about painting some but I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested. I'll definitely give it some thought.

I’ve been thinking of poppy painting and wondering if you have thought of doing a tutorial of poppies.

Louise De Masi

I have thought of it Kathy. A few other people have mentioned it to me. I've got a lot of good photos I can use. Leave it with me.

Louise, I painted the denim jacket yesterday and I love it. Looking forward to the squirrel tutorial

Diane King

Hi, Louise, I finished "The Jacket" yesterday and posted it on my Facebook page. I got 181 comments! I felt so good about the results and the fact that I have learned so much from you since I started painting with you. A friend even offered to buy the painting from me as a gift to her daughter-in-law who has just given birth to a beautiful baby boy. I was blown away! Thank you so much for giving such a careful instructions on how to paint your lovely subjects. I have enjoyed painting with you so much. Love, Diane in Savannah.

Louise De Masi

My pleasure. That's wonderful Diane and that makes me very happy! Thank you so much for letting me know. 😘

Louise, I have a photo almost like this of my 31 year old son at this age wearing a very similar denim jacket and a mop of hair the same color! I am not experienced enough to tackle portraits so when I saw this, pictured from the back I was thrilled. I love your work and your tutorials! I have two questions, how do you do the pencil studies before you tackle the painting? That must be very helpful in preparing you for the actual painting and, where on this site can I see others paintings? You are amazing and I cannot imagine how you do so much work, I stand in awe!❤️

I loved painting the “Jacket”. I learn so much from your tutorials and they always push me to those little added details ... So happy that I subscribe to your channel!

Louise De Masi

Hi Lisa, Thank you! To do the pencil studies in graphite I first turn my reference photo black and white in Photoshop. Then I draw from that looking at the different values. It allows me to simplify areas that are too detailed and I can play around with the external edges. I ask myself where do I want a hard edge and where do I want soft edges. All of the tutorials and posts I have done here on Patreon are on the index links. It's best to use them if you are looking for something here on Patreon. You'll see the links in my message to everyone under the video above. Other paintings of mine (that aren't tutorials) are on my website and on my Instagram page. 💕

I have used this wonderful tutorial to paint a picture of my 18 mo old grandson in a red sweatshirt looking at something in the grass. Thanks for all your tips. The one part I found especially hard was putting a 'wrinkle' in the sweatshirt. Fabric isn't easy!! All in all I was pleased with the results and will be proud to give it to my son, the father of this grandson,
