Hi everyone,

Here's a video for beginners I made this week for YouTube to demonstrate how I soften paint edges on dry paper. I have had a few people contact me and tell me they have difficulty with this. So at about the 12.40 minute mark of this video I demonstrate what I do and also what you could be doing wrong.

There are a few other techniques I use when I soften edges scattered through this video.

I'll put this video on the two indexes so you can find it easily if you need it again.

Thank you so much for all of your wishes and prayers about my little grandson. He's doing well and we are all feeling relieved and grateful for the expert care he has received from the dr's and nurses who have been looking after him. They are worth their weight in gold.

Tutorials

The flamingo tutorial is just about ready. Quite a few of you have been asking me about it. I will be publishing the full length version of it here on Patreon next week.

I know there are quite a few of you waiting patiently for the goat tutorial as well. I'll publish it after the Flamingo tutorial.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Yvonne Walton

Hi Louise this bird is so pretty I would love to paint it. I was wondering if you have a tutorial for it.

Louise De Masi

Hi Yvonne, which bird are you asking about? Thanks.

Yvonne Walton

The parrot right at the beginning on your thumbnail, or the opening screen the one right next to you in the photo

Yvonne Walton

He’s standing on the garden fork

Louise De Masi

No I'm sorry, I've never made one for that parrot. I painted it about 4 or 5 years ago and I'm not sure I have all the footage.

Susan Layton

Thank you, your instructions my paintings look much better, can’t wait for the next tutorial.

Nettie Moss

Thank you so much for this Louise: I am focussing on softer edges at the moment - can't wait for the goat! So pleased your little grandson is making good progress: medical staff are amazing aren't they - I feel they should be paid more than footballers!

Kabakova Lilyana

Please tell me what is the front side of Fabriano artistico 56&76sm.

Kabakova Lilyana

Are we allowed to sign the paintings we make with you can wegive them away or sell them

Louise De Masi

The front side of my Fabriano Artistico paper has a 'Fabriano Artistico' watermark down one side of the shorter edge. Hold it up to the light to see it. The front side will have the words going in the right direction - (not back to front). I don't think it matters what side you paint on though. I'm pretty sure I've painted on both sides.

Louise De Masi

I have no problem with you signing your paintings. If the painting is from a tutorial where I have provided my own reference photo I ask that you don't sell those ones. Also, if the painting is from a tutorial where I have used a photo from Wildlife Reference Photos website you must purchase the photo yourself in order to see your painting. That is in accordance with Wildlife Reference Photos terms of service. Copyright information is included on every Supplies List of every tutorial. Thanks.

This was very helpful, and such a challenge for me but will play today with it. Also love your Tee Shirt will u be selling them ? Hope so very cute design!

Alexandra May

Hi Louise, I didn't know about your grandson except that I saw mention of him being in the NICU. Both of my twins started their lives out in intensive care and did brilliantly. So glad he's getting the care he needs. Sending love and light xo

Louise De Masi

Thank you very much Alexandra. I'm glad your twins are well. 💕

Louise De Masi

Thanks Pam. Practice on some scrap paper or on the back of another painting you don't want. Yes the tee shirts and other things are available on my Tee spring store which is attached to my YouTube channel. I found the tee shirts to be sized quite small. I have a medium on and it fits well but I usually where a small.

Louise De Masi

Thanks Nettie. They are wonderful. Here, like most places I suppose, they are understaffed. They often do shifts and miss their breaks because they are too busy. I think they are amazing people and they should be treasured and looked after.

Janet Ross

This is such a helpful video. Thank you so much Louise. I just love your art and your teaching style. I am enjoying my venture into water colours a lot and you have helped so much. 💕

Kathleen Trevor

Like Alexandra I didn’t know about your grandson my granddaughters were in NICU identical twin girls feels like yesterday, they are ten now always been small for their age but such a joy can only see them on FaceTime now because of lockdown sending much love x

Louise De Masi

That's wonderful and makes me happy. Thank you Janet.

Louise De Masi

I hope you can be with them soon. Thank you Kathleen.

Stephanie Grow

Oh I’m so excited about the flamingo!!!!

Ali Stroud

So sorry to hear about your grandson’s early arrival - but it sounds like he is in safe hands and I hope he well enough to come home soon - and congratulations on becoming a grandmother - how exciting.

Ali Stroud

And I am much looking forward to the flamingo ❤️ thank you! I’ll order my Pyrrol Orange tomorrow - is the normal one or the transparent one?

Louise De Masi

Thanks Ali. It's transparent Pyrrol Orange that I used.

Barbara Larin-Blair

I absolutely love your teaching techniques. You are a brilliant teacher and make it so easy to follow. The human side of you is adorable in your blooper segment! I it possible for your teaching to someday include a Palomino? God Bless! Keep our classes coming!

Louise De Masi

Thanks very much Barbara. I have a horse on my list as a few patrons have been asking me to paint one. I'll keep an eye out for a good reference photo.

Alana

So useful. This has really clarified some of my problems :)

Rosalind

I agree! You are such a fine teacher! These practical instructions are so welcome, so hard to find out there!

Delores Pumphrey
