Hi everyone,
Here is Part 1 of the goat tutorial.
Part 2 is here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/48053887
I have labelled it for intermediate to advanced painters. If you're a beginner, don't be daunted by it. Watch the video because, like all my videos, I take you step by step through my process. Even if you don't have the confidence to paint it yourself, just watching the video will help you understand this beautiful medium better.
I painted this goat when I first started painting in watercolour. I have the first painting hanging on the wall at home (see below). At the time I painted it I thought it was wonderful. I look at it now and it reminds me of how far I've come. I've got hard edges all through it and I can see the areas where I struggled ( I can remember the struggle well). I thought it would be a good exercise to get out the reference photo and paint it a second time.
This is the first painting hanging on the wall in our ensuite.
After I found the old reference photo I did a quick graphite study, followed by a colour study before I painted the main painting featured in this tutorial. The studies really helped me to map out where I was going with the painting.
I have mentioned this before but I'll say it again, I am finding the graphite studies I've been doing lately are very helpful with planning out the painting. I have a video on YouTube today where I demonstrate how a graphite study really helped me with a Blue Tit painting that is coming to Patreon next month. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/xjiWjTlRi9M

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here.
If you have any technical problems with audio or anything else with any of the videos here - try logging into Patreon through your internet browser. I have found the Patreon app to be very glitchy.
I hope you enjoy the Goat painting. I learned a lot from it myself.
Have a lovely, paint filled weekend.

PS: Thank you again for all of your kind messages about our new grandson Logan. I haven't responded to all of you but I have read them all and I really appreciate them. I told our son, Ryan (Logan's dad), that you've been sending kind messages and prayers for his little boy and he is very grateful too. Logan was released from hospital on Thursday after a four week stay. He is doing really well and gaining weight slowly. Dom and I visited them for about an hour on Thursday and we took them some food for their dinner. Little Logan was asleep the whole time so we didn't get to hold him but I rubbed his little back and told him that I was his nanna, I loved him like crazy, and I can't wait to spoil him rotten. Hopefully next time we visit we'll finally get to give him a cuddle and look into those little sweet eyes.
Another heart for all of you....💙.

My tutorials are designed to help you on your creative journey. Any painting you create from a tutorial where I use my own reference photo is for personal use only. They can't be sold or entered into an art competition. I write on the Supplies Lists where the photos come from. Permission is not given to paint any of my earlier paintings that are not tutorials because some of them are licensed. Also, a few of my earlier paintings were painted from photographs where I sought the permission of the photographer. The photographer gave me permission to use it, not others.
If I do a tutorial where I use another photographer's photo (eg from Pixabay or Unsplash) that is available for anyone throughout the world to download (copyright free) and use I’m happy for you to sell the paintings you create from the tutorial.
If I do a tutorial and I use a photo that I have paid for and downloaded from the website Wildlife Reference Photos in order for you to sell the painting you create from the tutorial you need to purchase and download the photograph yourself. This is in accordance with the Terms and Services of the Wildlife Reference Photo website.
If you share a finished painting on social media I would really appreciate it if you could link back to my account (be it on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram) and mention that you painted it in one of my tutorials. @louisedemasi
Thank you!
