Baby Chicken Tutorial - Mixing Black - Intermediate (Patreon)

Hi everyone,
Here is the baby Chicken tutorial. In this tutorial I mix two complimentary colours to mix grey and black. I use the two colours (Permanent Alizarin Crimson and Winsor Green blue shade) to create subtle variations in the black instead of using a pre-mixed black like Lamp Black.
If you don't have the two colours I used try using other staining, transparent complementary colours (complementary colours are opposite one another on the colour wheel). A good substitute for Winsor Green is Phthalo Green and you could use Permanent Rose instead of Permanent Alizarin Crimson.
This is a small painting that shouldn't take too long to paint but be prepared to paint it more than once. I did three studies before I painted this one here. I've included lots of progress photos that will help you as you paint.
All of the files you need are attached below my message here. If you'd like to paint a larger chicken than I have painted here - let me know and I'll attach a larger version of the line drawing - spread over two files for you.
The reference photo was taken by Paige Cody and I downloaded it from Unsplash website. Here is the link to the reference photo: https://unsplash.com/photos/kfiiQT3EnIc
I've also put the link on the Supplies List.

I'm currently checking the Magnolias tutorial. I'll publish it when I finish checking it. I've also finished the Blue Tit tutorial. I'll publish that when I can. I have to begin editing the full length version of the Vizsla tutorial that I posted on YouTube yesterday: https://youtu.be/lHsOn5pCRvY
On top of that I am now a nurse maid to Dom for a few weeks. For those who don't know, he fell from a ladder on Good Friday when he was painting the house outside. He broke 7 ribs, two of them twice. I've been going backwards and forwards to the hospital for the past week. He got out of hospital on Friday and I'm glad to have him home because I can get back to work now. He's sore and feeling sorry for himself. He will have to sleep on the recliner for a month or more. No more ladders for a while for him. Thank you very much to all of you who have sent him get well messages. He felt very special as he read all of them. They certainly lifted his spirits when he was in hospital.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and take care of yourselves.

My tutorials are designed to help you on your creative journey. Any painting you create from a tutorial where I use my own reference photo is for personal use only. They can't be sold or entered into an art competition. I write on the Supplies Lists where the photos come from. Permission is not given to paint any of my earlier paintings that are not tutorials because some of them are licensed. Also, a few of my earlier paintings were painted from photographs where I sought the permission of the photographer. The photographer gave me permission to use it, not others.
If I do a tutorial where I use another photographer's photo (eg from Pixabay or Unsplash) that is available for anyone throughout the world to download (copyright free) and use I’m happy for you to sell the paintings you create from the tutorial.
If I do a tutorial and I use a photo that I have paid for and downloaded from the website Wildlife Reference Photos in order for you to sell the painting you create from the tutorial you need to purchase and download the photograph yourself. This is in accordance with the Terms and Services of the Wildlife Reference Photo website.
If you share a finished painting on social media I would really appreciate it if you could link back to my account (be it on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram) and mention that you painted it in one of my tutorials. @louisedemasi
