Sheep Tutorial - intermediate (Patreon)

Hi everyone,
Here is the sheep tutorial. I make particular use of hard and soft edges in this tutorial. I use soft edges to suggest the softness of the wool and also to create distance in areas that are further away. I use hard edges to draw the eye of the viewer to the focal point of the painting.
I used a limited palette of only three colours plus some black and a very small amount of opaque white pigment. The blue I used was Winsor Blue (red shade). If you don't have this colour use a blue you do have. Two suggestions are French Ultramarine or Cobalt Blue. I also used Permanent Magenta. If you don't have it, use a magenta you do have or mix a small amount of blue into one of your pinks. The other colour I used was Burnt Umber. You could use any earthy brown colour for this. The colours you use are not as important as the 'value' of the colour you are using. By 'value' I mean how dark or how light you put the paint on the paper. If I put my colour on the paper fairly pale- make your colour fairly pale. If I put my colour on the paper at its full intensity (nice and dark) put yours on the paper at its full intensity.
All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here. There are plenty of progress photos of my painting to help you.
The reference photo was taken by Yoonbae Cho and I downloaded it from Unsplash website here: https://unsplash.com/photos/GJclWjgcVPk
I hope you enjoy painting it.

My tutorials are designed to help you on your creative journey. Any painting you create from a tutorial where I use my own reference photo is for personal use only. They can't be sold or entered into an art competition. I write on the Supplies Lists where the photos come from.
Permission is not given to paint any of my earlier paintings that are not tutorials because some of them are licensed. Also, a few of my earlier paintings were painted from photographs where I sought the permission of the photographer. The photographer gave me permission to use it, not others.
If I do a tutorial where I use another photographer's photo (eg from Pixabay or Unsplash) that is available for anyone throughout the world to download (copyright free) and use I’m happy for you to sell the paintings you create from the tutorial. I know art supplies are expensive, so it's good to be able to recoup the costs of supplies.
If I do a tutorial and I use a photo that I have paid for and downloaded from the website Wildlife Reference Photos in order for you to sell the painting you create from the tutorial you need to purchase and download the photograph yourself. This is in accordance with the Terms and Services of the Wildlife Reference Photo website.
If you share a finished painting on social media I would really appreciate it if you could link back to my account (be it on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram) and mention that you painted it in one of my tutorials. @louisedemasi
Thank you!
