Hi everyone,

I posted this video on my YouTube channel over the weekend. I'm posting it here too so you can watch it without the ads and refer to it whenever you need it.

When you first start painting in watercolour you will more than likely encounter problems occurring that involve water on the paper. In this video I share three common problems, ways to avoid them and some techniques you can use to correct them if they occur.

The first problem is watercolour blooms appearing where you don't want them. I demonstrate a way you can fix them.

The second problem that I get asked about a lot are dark edges forming around the outside edge of the shape that you have painted. I show you why that happens and how you can improve the edge if it does. I also give you a tip on how to avoid it if you are working on wet paper.

The third problem that happens to me a lot are water lines (or tidelines) forming on wet paper. They started to appear on my Harvest Mice painting recently. I'll show you how to avoid them.

I hope the tips in this video help those of you who are just beginning your watercolour journey. I'll put a link to this video on the indexes so you can find it again if you need it.

Lovely video. (The "hake" in hake brush is Japanese, it's usually pronounced "hah-kay".)
