Hi Patrons,
It’s October and with October comes Inktober! This tutorial features a fairly simple drawing that I think would be suitable for beginners.
Inktober was created in 2009 by Jake Parker. Jake is an illustrator and back in 2009 he wanted to improve his drawing and inking skills so he started a challenge where every day for the month of October he produced an ink drawing. Other artists all around the world also take part in the challenge. If you would like to take up the challenge yourself, Jake has provided a series of prompts for every day in October that you can use to spark your creativity or you can choose to draw whatever you like instead.
If you do an ink drawing and post it online make sure you use the hashtags #inktober and #inktober2022 so others can see and you can follow the work of others.
Here is the link to Jake’s site if you’d like to know more about Inktober: https://inktober.com
I have a YouTube video coming out this weekend where I demonstrate the two ink drawings below.
All of the files you need to complete the old tree drawing are attached below my message here.
The reference photo was taken by Hennie Stander and I downloaded it from Unsplas: https://unsplash.com/photos/8E5HawfqCMM
I hope you enjoy this tutorial and let me know in the comments below if you are going to take up the challenge.
Louise

My tutorials are designed to help you on your creative journey. Any painting you create from a tutorial where I use my own reference photo is for personal use only. They can't be sold or entered into an art competition. I write on the Supplies Lists where the photos come from.
Permission is not given to paint any of my earlier paintings that are not tutorials because some of them are licensed. Also, a few of my earlier paintings were painted from photographs where I sought the permission of the photographer. The photographer gave me permission to use it, not others.
If I do a tutorial where I use another photographer's photo (eg from Pixabay or Unsplash) that is available for anyone throughout the world to download (copyright free) and use I’m happy for you to sell the paintings you create from the tutorial. I know art supplies are expensive, so it's good to be able to recoup the costs of supplies.
If I do a tutorial and I use a photo that I have paid for and downloaded from the website Wildlife Reference Photos in order for you to sell the painting you create from the tutorial you need to purchase and download the photograph yourself. This is in accordance with the Terms and Services of the Wildlife Reference Photowebsite.
If you share a finished painting on social media I would really appreciate it if you could link back to my account (be it on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram) and mention that you painted it in one of my tutorials. @louisedemasi
Thank you!
