Hi everyone,

Here is the larger version of the Autumn Leaf (Pin Oak) tutorial. This is the same leaf that I painted for the Pumpkin and Autumn leaf studies tutorial but it has a bit more detail because it's much larger.

I quite liked the way the study leaf turned out and I thought it would make a nice painting on its own. It's not too challenging. I think it would be ok for beginners with some experience to try but definitely intermediate painters should be able to manage it.

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here. The reference photo is my own.

I hope you enjoy painting it.

Louise

My tutorials are designed to help you on your creative journey. Any painting you create from a tutorial where I use my own reference photo is for personal use only. They can't be sold or entered into an art competition. I write on the Supplies Lists where the photos come from.

Permission is not given to paint any of my earlier paintings that are not tutorials because some of them are licensed. Also, a few of my earlier paintings were painted from photographs where I sought the permission of the photographer. The photographer gave me permission to use it, not others.

If I do a tutorial where I use another photographer's photo (eg from Pixabay or Unsplash) that is available for anyone throughout the world to download (copyright free) and use I’m happy for you to sell the paintings you create from the tutorial. I know art supplies are expensive, so it's good to be able to recoup the costs of supplies.

If I do a tutorial and I use a photo that I have paid for and downloaded from the website Wildlife Reference Photos in order for you to sell the painting you create from the tutorial you need to purchase and download the photograph yourself. This is in accordance with the Terms and Services of the Wildlife Reference Photowebsite.

If you share a finished painting on social media I would really appreciate it if you could link back to my account (be it on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram) and mention that you painted it in one of my tutorials. @louisedemasi

Thank you!

Hi, Louise, I was looking for the bright colors of autumn leaves. I’m amazed at how beautifully you can paint an otherwise plain brown leaf. Here in south Louisiana (USA) our green leaves go straight to brown so I have to create my own autumn colors. I saw the Triad tutorial but would love to see another. Thanks

Mahira

oh what fun...lengthening shadows...leaves curling uo, dreading winter's near.

My wash looked too light for an oak leaf. I’ll try it again.

The Indian yellow brightens things up

Dorothy Mullenix

Just now starting to paint the autumn leaf. I have Lemon yellow, Azo Yellow, New Gamboge and Cadmium yellow. Which one to use to substitute the Indian Yellow?

Louise De Masi

Hi Dorothy, Indian Yellow, is a warm, transparent yellow, the closest option among the paints you have would be New Gamboge. New Gamboge is a warm yellow with a similar richness and transparency to Indian Yellow, making it a good match.

Thank you Louise, I love the shadows 🥰💕

I thought I was a water colorist until I started watching your tutorials. Thank you, for you. May I ask, what is your favored method for transferring your images to paper? I use the graphite on the back of the photograph method but I'm wondering if carbon paper would be more accurate.

Louise De Masi

Thank you Adriela. I use both the graphite method and also sometimes I use Saral paper (transfer paper). I have found the saral paper can be a bit more messy than graphite though.

Thank you for your kindness. I appreciate you.

Hi Louise, I love watching and learning from your tutorials they've helped me so much. I've been looking for the beach vine tutorial and can't find it, except on YouTube, is it not available 🤔

Louise De Masi

Hi Anita, thank you. It hasn't been posted yet but it is coming to Patreon.

Ok on the meantime I'll do a study piece
