Hi everyone,

Here is the Fox Tutorial.

The trees in the background are painted in loosely and I've tried to keep the fox as simple as I could.

All of the files you need to complete the painting are attached below my message here. There are lots of progress photos included to help you.

The reference photo was taken by Amanda Frank and I downloaded it from Unsplash. Here is the link: https://unsplash.com/photos/e4ING8JYKgI

I hope you enjoy painting it.

Thanks,

Louise

My tutorials are designed to help you on your creative journey. Any painting you create from a tutorial where I use my own reference photo is for personal use only. They can't be sold or entered into an art competition. I write on the Supplies Lists where the photos come from.

Permission is not given to paint any of my earlier paintings that are not tutorials because some of them are licensed. Also, a few of my earlier paintings were painted from photographs where I sought the permission of the photographer. The photographer gave me permission to use it, not others.

If I do a tutorial where I use another photographer's photo (eg from Pixabay or Unsplash) that is available for anyone throughout the world to download (copyright free) and use I’m happy for you to sell the paintings you create from the tutorial. I know art supplies are expensive, so it's good to be able to recoup the costs of supplies.

If I do a tutorial and I use a photo that I have paid for and downloaded from the website Wildlife Reference Photos in order for you to sell the painting you create from the tutorial you need to purchase and download the photograph yourself. This is in accordance with the Terms and Services of the Wildlife Reference Photo website.

If you share a finished painting on social media I would really appreciate it if you could link back to my account (be it on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram) and mention that you painted it in one of my tutorials. @louisedemasi

Thank you!

Oh, this will do very nicely for my niece's baby shower next week! Was just wondering what to paint her and she won't breathe a word whether she's having a girl or boy - not very helpful! - so that's a bit frustrating. So a fox it is, perfect for a little boy or girl, in my opinion, and it'll still be snowy where they live when the boy-girl gets here in April! Personally, I hope they have twins, a boy AND girl, serves 'em right for not telling us all!!!

Thank you Louise for this beautiful fox tutorial😊💛. Another little challenge with all the ingredients......as usual, your steps by steps lesson along with the pictures are very useful and very much appreciate💗🥰

Ashley B

Wonderful! I’m so excited for this fox! You have the best teaching style and I really appreciate it, I retain everything I learn the most from you. 😀

Nancy Guenther

This is beautiful. I can’t wait to do this! The sketch is very basic so it will be interesting watching it come to life. Thank you, Louise. 🦊

Lovely tutorial to think of the beauties of winter in February, the most challenging month. I also want to try the new cardinal you painted in YouTube to cheer me up. Best wishes from the frozen north.

Jean Gursoy

Really lovely tutorial Louise. Thank you. Liked the background, would be nice to have more backgrounds. 😍

Nettie Moss

Oh - thank you so much for this lovely tutorial Louise - AND with a limited palette - my heart sinks these days if I see tutorials/lists on youtube and in books - with vast amounts of paints . . I love how you teach us to mix with only 3 colours and feel so happy with that, thank you again!

Judy Breedlove

Such a lovely, soft fox. Thank you for this tutorial.

Kathie Lewandowski

I love your tutorials and have learned a lot, thanks! Could you do some landscape tutorials such as a forest with autumn leaves and a woodland setting with a small waterfall?

Louise De Masi

Thanks so much Kathie. I am not a landscape painter but I hope to teach myself some things this year about landscape painting. I'll share with everyone when I've got something worth showing.

Louise De Masi

Thanks very much Nettie. We continue to grow! I do that when I look at my older paintings when I used many different colours.

Louise De Masi

That makes me very happy to know. Thank you Ashley.

Louise De Masi

Thank you Vickie. I hope everything goes well for her. 💕

Kathie Lewandowski

I look forward to that. I have found your tutorials to be the best of any I've viewed so far and I have viewed many.

Carol Factor

Hi Louise. I'm enjoying painting the fox. My primary concern is wetting a large area of the body of the fox as you did. It dries out too fast due to my inability to paint as fast as you do. The water starts to dry too fast before I can get the color down=like for example the body of the fox. Do I dry it all and proceed to wet the whole area again? Thank you so much!

Louise De Masi

Hi Carol. Yes that's correct. If it starts to dry before you get all the paint on there. Dry it completely with a hair dryer. Wait until it cools and then wet it with water again and keep working. I've been asked this a few times so I'll make a short tip video demonstrating this as soon as I can. It's on my list!

Karen Ovitz

I have the same problem! I live in a very low humidity area, and it's frustrating!

The baby shower was this past Saturday, the 11th, and my niece loved the Fox! She and her hubby both thought it was a remarkably clever watercolor design and declared it quite the masterpiece. There you go, another satisfied student—turned-masterpiece-Fox-painter due to your expert teaching skills! 😁😁😁 Thanks again!!

Louise De Masi

I'm so pleased Vicki! That's wonderful. Did they reveal the gender of their baby at the baby shower?

Hotflash Vickie

No, they did not, dangit! We’ve got to wait till April when the baby gets here! They know, but they’re making the rest of us suffer. But that also meant they got a lot of yellow- and green-colored gifts Saturday, so I guess their decision to keep the baby’s sex to themselves is going to result in a very weirdly colored, boring nursery. HaHaHaHa.

I am writing from the U.S. and I am not finding anyplace that carries the rigger brush you use in this tutorial. ( Borciani Bonazzi Unico Infinito Rigger brush series 856 size 2/0) Can you recommend a substitute? Thanks!

Louise De Masi

Hi Ginny, I don't know of a specific substitute brush I'm sorry. Do you have a rigger brush? Their bristles are much longer than normal round brushes and they are designed to reduce the amount of wobble or wiggling from your hand as you paint fine lines. Most riggers should do the same thing that the brush I used did.

Ginny Westrick

Thank you! I will try the rigger I have.

Jeanette

Lovely tutorial Louise, thank you.

Shelly Solle

This one gave me a bit of challenge. Thank you Louise

Beyond Waking

Thank you, I had such a fun time with this!

Water

Really enjoyed the tutorial, I will be painting this one next. Thank you for your teaching.

Lynn

It's cold and snowing here so I thought I would try painting this cute little fox since he's standing in snow. Thanks for another great tutorial.
