Last night, HR won 13 out of 13 awards they were nominated for (the early awards) at the Canadian Screen Awards. Tonight they are up for three more awards, including Hudson for best Lead Performer, and for Best Drama Series. Connor was not eligible because he's a US citizen.

Dude, our $1 coin is literally called a Loonie because there's a loon on the back. We're all about Loons up here. The Canada Goose (aka Cobra Chickens/aka Murder Chickens) are just more famous cause they terrify us.

jo

@4:42 okay, I’m gonna push back on this 😂 no, no one should be attacking you in the comments, obvi, and that person’s reaction sounds unhinged, however: some of us (generally) are a) very protective of these characters lol 😳, b) feel that we know who they are (e.g., their character/ integrity), and c), at this point have heard reactors since November spinning the theory that Shane understood some of the Russian. It’s not a wild idea to suggest that he would try to learn Russian (he does, later in the relationship), and some could argue, he should have (?), although, if you’re just thinking that you’re only having transactional sex with someone and both of you constantly are trying to end it, maybe learning a language for a future you don’t believe is possible would be counterintuitive. (continued)

jo

(continued) however, the reactivity is not around the idea that he would have made an effort to learn Russian at that point. It’s around the idea that Shane would 1) learn Russian secretly, 2) never tell Ilya that, and 3) deliberately set him up by inviting him to open up, when he’s most vulnerable, telling him he can safely disclose and be uninhibited because Shane won’t understand any of it - to reassure Ilya of that to make him feel safe, if he secretly knew he would understand parts of it - THAT would be a fucked up thing to do, and folks think that part would be out of character for Shane, to be deceptive in that way.

Beck Huston

Keep being THAT dad. So important. My mother was called and told by someone about me. She called my older sisters to come get this filthy thing out of her house. This was 1981. So much better now a days.

JK Reacts

Murder Chickens are the worst... other than swans! I got attacked by a swan when I was 3 lol

jo

@50:06. Hunter’s situation is really different. 1) yeah he didn’t retire but he could have; he’s at a very different point in his career. He’s dating a normal layperson who is an out queer person, so it’s only him on the line. / Ilya & Shane are much earlier in their careers, and a lot of their fame is connected to this rivalry. 2) Shane’s mother’s suspicion that they couldn’t compete honestly or the same if they’re involved w/ each other is foreshadowing of what the public will do. /3. Ilya’s safety is on the line - he can’t come out at all right now as a Russian citizen who doesn’t have citizenship anywhere else yet. / and 4) I think we can see that Shane isn’t ready to publicly be outed.

Beck Huston

Yeah. But I am very fluid and found an appropriate partner for her. That was a very rough time though. We somehow muddled through, though I never trusted her with anything after that.

Beck Huston

So these coming out scenes always tear me up into bits.

Ben Gilbert

Rumors are that Edvin Ryding, Prince Willem, from Young Royals will be in Season 2. Jacob Tierney started following him on Instagram and Edvin's joined a gym to put on some muscle.

JK Reacts

I'm starting Young Royals this week so I'll know who you're talking about soon lol

Michelle West

Thanks for the unwanted spoiler. It's only small but unfortunately I have seen so many small spoilers that put together I must know half of what happens in The Long Game when I really wanted to go into season 2 knowing nothing.

Maria Stoycheva

you might think you're kidding but... "nursing home robbery" - pretty much the plot of Man on the Inside :D (pretty decent show, btw. we've had quite a few shows about elderly amateur sleuths and I, for one, am digging it. it's giving strong Miss Marple vibes and that's always a fun time)

Chris

I'm sad it's done. You are one of the better reactors out there. I mean, I was obviously willing to pay to watch it, even if it's not like you are charging an arm and a leg to do so. You paid attention, had great commentary, and it was clear that you are a good person on top of that, and your comments about your kids really really drove that home. I officially came out more than 30 years ago and my parents were ok. My mom was perfectly fine, my dad did say he thought it was more of a phase - which I pushed back immediately on - but now they are both great with my husband of 25 years. It really shouldn't be hard, but it still continues to be for too many people. I regards to one of your comments, this season was done as a one off since they had no idea if there would be a season 2 or not. Plus, it's a romance, so literally riding off into the sunset is a happy ending. I think they had the actors signed for 3 seasons, just in case, but they certainly didn't do this season assuming they would have a 2nd to continue the story. I like that we can just assume that all of Shane's plan will happen. You saying that the sex isn't the whole story is correct. I wish more people would talk about how the show is not just that. No one would be going this crazy over 6 hours of sex scenes. There's plenty of other sources for that. It's the story that's the amazing thing. I personally stopped watching Queer As Folk because of Brian Kenny. I hear he got better, but I didn't believe any of those people would still be friends with a complete ass like that. That, and when the had to write Dr. David off. I wasn't happy. The second the phone call with Hayden started, I knew you were in trouble. I wasn't sure if we'd get an actual spit take from you or not. You did good. Of all the moments in the show to take a drink, that was not the right one. I hope there will be more Scott Hunter to come too. I did read the first 2 books, but only after seeing the show. I'm not touching the rest, and don't want to know ANYTHING, but that's already getting harder to do with some of the stupid headlines some clips have put out lately. No spoilers! Surely they will bring all the gay guys together in one way or another. Maybe Scott will be part of their hockey school. That would be a good idea that makes sense in terms of getting the characters to interact. I am kind of nervous about season 2 though since it will be more serious. I figure they will actually have to more directly address the homophobia issues in a more blatant fashion. The issues with their relationship will also hit harder. Once you are together for real, anything that comes up is likely to be more difficult emotionally. I know they will stay together and there will be a happy ending - romance books after all - but getting there might be more stressful. I kind of think Ilya will be the one who wants to come out first and that might cause problems. Hopefully Russia doesn't come into play too much since Ilya has basically cut all ties at this point but he needs to find a way to stay a way for good. Either way, I'm worried that season 2 will hit even harder. Considering I haven't recovered from this season after 4 or 5 months, not sure I will have recharged by the time season 2 comes out. Ok, my book is done. Great job with the reactions and everything you said. It was well worth watching.

Maria Stoycheva

btw, about that person yelling at you about Shane not lying to Ilya... funny story, actually, the book makes ALL the jokes/assumptions that any reactor has made on the topic. Ilya is literally worrying afterwards that Shane either understood him, or recorded him and will translate it later. but he still says what he says. it's a very self-aware book in that respect. but I agree with you - the fact that Shane never even tried learning Russian is telling. to me, it is telling of the fact that Shane never allowed himself to believe that he and Ilya could have something 'real' and he was actively trying to NOT get too invested all these years.

Ben Gilbert

I think Svetlana's father married her mother when he played in the major league. So she has dual citizenship. That's only something I read in comments about the show. So, I could be wrong.

Ben Gilbert

I've only seen the 1st three episodes, so I'm looking forward to it.

Maria Stoycheva

this show taught me the meaning of a new term. you know HEA: happily ever after - that's the slight fantasy element of romance books that you spoke about. Heated Rivalry is more of a HFN - happy for now - hence why people keep telling you that there's much more story to tell. romance movies usually stop at the 'I love you's and just assume that once the couple is together, everything is fine. but reality is slightly different, and the reality of queer people (not to mention professional male sports players!) is even more different than that. their journey is just beginning. they have 1 more book, with a third on the way, so this show can easily have 2-3 more seasons, which we all hope for.

Michelle West

I feel your pain over spoilers for season 2. I wanted to go into season 2 the way I did with this one, not knowing anything. Unfortunately I have seen and read so much that I'm sure I know at least 50% of what is going to happen.

Chris

Dang, I wrote a lot. That's a ton even for me. I had a few things spoiled for season 1, by myself watching stuff about the show, so I wanted to be able to experience anything big and amazing as surprises. I knew about the monologue and Scott bringing Kip onto the ice before watching the show. I wish I hadn't. I know I would have started to see the ice kiss well before most people see it, although I wouldn't have been 100% sure until he started breathing hard. Still, it would have been nice to see it as the moment it was. Now I have a year of being very careful. At least next season I'll be watching it as it comes out instead of 2 months later. That will help.

Noora

I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction to this series, thank you! See you season two! <3

The part that always makes me sob is "She would have loved you. Like I love you." (L. I. L. Y.) It's Ilya's way of saying that his love for Shane is unconditional--which isn't to say it hasn't been tested (Russia...), or that Ilya always handles that love in the most mature way (Rose...); but *is* to say that he will always want what's best for Shane, even if what's best for him isn't Ilya, himself (thankfully, not the case). It's such an internal conflict; it's why he tries to talk Shane out of "liking" him in the hotel room at the All-Star Game, yet can't leave Shane alone at the pool, on the beach, on the ice. It brings me to tears just thinking about it. Such a rare love: really the only--but most important--thing Ilya has to give.

HiippChick

I think because her father played in the MLH she was born in the US, and has dual citizenship.

HiippChick

Edvin Ryding is an amazing actor.

2:08 --Scott doesn't retire....he just decided winning the cup didn't mean as much without his person there to celebrate with. 4:30 Shane gave Ilya a safe space, he told Ilya he wouldn't understand what he said. He would not deceive him like that. They never thought a real relationship was possible.....they didn't think it could be more than their infrequent hook-ups. Learning russian for an impossible relationship would just make it hurt more. 8:11 The season was done the second Scott Hunter won the cup. The night of the MLH awards a local gay bar in Vegas had a Scott Hunter night. Some of Scott's teammates showed up...and so did Ilya to support him (according to the books). 58:40 Maybe.....but he felt like he intruded on Shane's privacy, and knowing Shane is prone to panic attacks he knew it was better to let Shane compose himself and come to them when he was ready and could have some control....and his Mom...when she heard them both declare each other was the only one they've ever loved....it was that moment she realized that her son had found his person and for all those years never once told her about something so monumental in his life, and it hit her that it was her fault her son couldn't tell her and she missed out on something so big. The nice thing about the romance genre is that you get a HEA/HFN. Season 2 will not be another decade. The book season 2 is about has more Scott hunter. --Thanks, I've enjoyed your reactions.

JB2472

I totally agree with you. Who cares what people's sexuality is anymore? it's 2026. Gen X parents really don't care. C'mon people! Love is love. Loved your reaction to this series.

Karen Campbell

You've hit the nail on the head. Ilya's giving up everything for Shane.

Sam

Regarding that other comment or Shane had mentioned he wouldn’t understand. That is what they were referring to

Sam

Regarding the possibility of translation

janeelmonae

I love that you brought up QAF, which I ADORED! Brian Kinney was one of the best characters in tv (imo). I think Ilya and Brian have a lot of similarities which is why I think I love Ilya so much. Even though I love Shane and Ilya equally I feel like I have to defend him more, the same way I did for Brian.

Adam

I actually loved the part where his mom starts talking about his sponsors. It showed that she had processed it and was okay with it as she was back to her normal thought process in "manager mode". It also shows how similar she and Shane are. They both care so much about hockey, they are very competitive (her "you never let him win" question) and they both are planners who map out the future.

Tara ✨💫

I freaking love Rozanov! His sense of humor and sarcasm is right up my alley.

Gina Kern

I’m now OBSESSED with Heated Rivalry just as much as Off Campus. My favorite episodes are 2,5,6! And sometimes 1.
