Yep, there's a lot of these. I wrote a lot for turtles ertls. This story was completely finished but wasn't purposefully released. All of turtles videos went public for some reason and for a brief moment this one was out in the open. Miles Wade downloaded the episode before it was taken down, so you can actually watch it on Youtube. A great deal of turtles' old videos were archived as well.
Personally, I was really happy with how it turned out. The booming voice gag was done so well, and in my opinion, this might be one of DieselD199's greatest performances ever. ThomasWoodenRailway and BertramOldWarrior did a great job as well. I also thought it was one of the best scripts I ever wrote, (at least at the time).
This story isn't something I could do myself because I wrote Diesel 199 back into the series so he could get into antics with D261 and Sliggs. If I had thought of this earlier, I would loved to have made this as part of my canon.
I read in some comments that some people didn't understand the message of the episode. I try not to do this with my own videos too often, but I feel I can elaborate here.
In addition to ideas, beliefs, and even sentiments living beyond the passage of time, and perhaps even death, I'd say one of the big messages lies with how Bear chose to leave Diesel 199 behind.
Diesel 199 had clearly not learned anything from his experience. He still chose to look down upon steam engines even when he was regarded as out of date and replaceable. It's why Douglas and Oliver's story went so differently. There was respect, gratitude, and an open-ness that Diesel 199 did not have towards the safety of Sodor.
If Diesel 199 was less vindictive and stuck-up, Bear wouldn't have hesitated to bring him to home with him. He would have become "one of the family" too. That's what Bear hoped would happen. It wasn't easy for Bear to do what he did.
Perhaps it's something I could have written more clearly and effectively, but there's only so much the vacant faces of toys can sell sometimes. (Maybe not to me, they can tell a thousand words to me!) I wonder if face animation or more narration would've helped to spell that out.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. This was one of my favorites (along with Duke Croaks, which I might do someday...)
