SURPRISE!

So this came a little out of left field. I've teased a few projects on here - ones that are ongoing and that I do still hope to put out videos on eventually - but not this one. Honestly, not for any real reason other than the project (decompiling ISLE.EXE) came together really quickly, so I thought it would be a good video to "come back" with.

I may have gotten a little carried away with explaining decompilation/Ghidra/debug symbols in the middle. I might rewatch it in a few days and cut it down before the public release if I still feel like it's dragging. Otherwise, this will probably be what gets posted unless something else comes up.

As always thanks for your support, and I hope you enjoy!

Hey Matt, there’s some serif subtitles randomly over some sections starting from the explanation of Ghidra. They’re inconsistent so I’m not sure they’re supposed to be there, are they an artefact of the production process that hasn’t been properly disabled on the exported version?

MattKC

Oh wow you're right, no they're not supposed to be there, they're supposed to be soft subs that I'll add to YT when they're done. I didn't know they got baked into the export, I'll fix that for the final release.

Your technical explanations are the things I look forward to most in your videos, so I would really love it if you kept them inside. Maybe add a way for viewers to skip to a timestamp if you're worried they won't be interested?

I really like the in-depth technical explanation. Especially since you’re so good at explaining and I’ve always wanted to know more about reverse engineering. You can tell by the passion you express in your explanation. It makes it so much easier to follow and honestly it’s the reason I’ve become a patreon member.

This video prompted me to become a patreon. Love seeing this type of decompilation work being done to help preserve code for future generations!

Long time viewer here, I also just signed up for a year of your Patreon thanks to this video and the bold move of dropping the sponsors. I recently did the same myself. Looking forward to seeing this play out!

Just came across your channel today and as a security engineer who used to spend time reversing plenty of binaries, your recent video inspired me to start poking around again just for fun. I'm looking forward to seeing what you dig up next :)

My favorite video of yours, I've always loved reverse engineering content. I'm more used to unity and godot so actual binary reversing is still pretty new to me. Good work!
