Hey Patrons,

At the end of last year I promised you'd be getting a steady stream of high-quality behind-the-scenes videos once Esteban came on board, and that's exactly what you're getting today!

One of the first orders of business for 2018 was getting another editing machine set up at Noclip Studios. I decided to pass my current PC down to Esteban - that rig is now going to be used for his editing days here and for helping us stream from the new set. The new rig was going to constitute our attempt to start recording and editing some of our features in 4k.

So about a week before Christmas I got a call from Patreon saying they had been approached by MSI who was looking for a creator to hand off a bunch of equipment they have packaged as a "4k editing build". Ridiculous timing really. It was about a week after the Patreon payment controversy had happened so I figure it's the universe trying to make good on all the grief we had to go through.

This BTS video above shows off the kit we used in the build, and  how we put it all together. Let me know what you think! I want to do a few more of these including setting up the PC / NAS / editing environment and building out our set too.

Enjoy the show!

Danny

I remember asking about 4K video before the first doc appeared! I’m so glad you’re going for it!

/noclip

We're still not convinced that we need to shoot and cut everything in 4k, but from listening to people and looking at other creators we know we need to start moving in that direction and certainly future proofing our work. Thanks for keeping us on our toes :)

Anthony Gifford

If anything you’re future proofing; hope it doesn’t turn out to be a massive ball ache!

I have a 4K TV, and would love to see more 4K content from creators, but I understand the logistics of doing so, and the fact that a large proportion of users can't view it in 4K, so I'm probably in the minority. The quality of your content is already excellent in 1080p, so I'm more than happy to wait until it makes sense! Also a belated Happy New Year to you!

Danny has spontaneously decided to rename Coolermaster "Cool Master", and I approve.

/noclip

oh my god I.....I've been saying Coolmaster for over a decade! WHAT?

Rob Curran

What? no 1080 Ti? :) Good build!

Shawn Cassidy

I love videos like this, inspires me to go back and build another PC.

Tony Colton

Built my last PC way back in 2006 using a Core 2 Duo 😂 forgot how exciting it is. You're like a kid at Christmas 🤗

I was "working" while watching the vid. Can we get a full part list? I seem to have missed how much ram

/noclip

4 sticks - the list is on the YouTube page description. I'll add the number of sticks to it now though!

Stephen

Machine looks like a monster. Surprised that it isn't using Threadripper though - that seems designed for your kind of thing?

Philipp Lehner

BTS video - for a second I thought you were collaborating with BTS xD

Mike Egan

Looks great! Looking forward to seeing more of the studio coming to life!

Nick Lennon

Can't tell you the amount of times I've placed RAM in the wrong slots.

Dan Longman

haha! I never even noticed because I have been doing the same thing! /mind blown

Logan

If you stop by Bellevue, be sure to host a quick get together night or something in Seattle!

Tohir Tillyaev

I finally just got to watch this video. The set up looks RAD! I certainly would love to see part 2!
