Hey folks!

As part of our 10 year anniversary videos I got our good friend Joey Fameli (Tested, Giant Bomb) over to film a quick tour of all the props we've used in our videos over the past decade.

From fish to puppets, RC cars, and pickaxes. We also show off some art books, game boxes and more.

Check it out!

I love stuff like this

Hey Danny. I'm really upset about the Metroid image you posted on social media. I mean, I understand and agree with the foundation of it. And while I'm not progressive, I am liberal. But I don't understand why you used violent imagery from a game to make that point, especially without any commentary or context. My young daughter gets harassed at school for being Jewish. I'll spare you the details. She doesn't even understand the horrors of the war between Israel and Palestine. But because some people conflate Jewish people generally with Netanyahu and the actions of the Israeli government, people like my child can end up paying the price. This, of course, is not your fault. But when you post something like that with as broad a reach as you have, can you see why I'd be really upset by it? I know I'm just some random. But you aren't. Not to me. And I think that's why I'm reacting so strongly to this. You've built a reputation on patient listening, empathy, prudence, and nuance. That's why I've been an admirer of yours for so long. It's what I strive for in my own professional pursuits, and I'll keep that no matter what. But when you posted that without context, it felt like those qualities were missing. It felt thoughtless in a way I genuinely didn't expect from you. I guess I just needed to let you know how I feel, in a forum that isn't flooded by bots and people looking for a political fight. Respectfully, Rob

>But I don't understand why you used violent imagery from a game to make that point, especially without any commentary or context Do you believe that there is any line in which the colonizer is going to choose to decolonize without violent resistance from the colonized? >But because some people conflate Jewish people generally with Netanyahu and the actions of the Israeli government, people like my child can end up paying the price It's obviously awful that there are people who are antisemitic in the form of conflating Jewishness with the Israeli state, but why you'd associate the responsibility for that antisemitism with people advocating for the liberation of Palestine. You even acknowledge "This, of course, is not your fault". Maybe Danny's answer will be different, but I "can[not] see why [you]'d be really upset by it".

I think you've misunderstood what I was trying to communicate. I'm not assigning responsibility for antisemitism to Danny, or to advocates for Palestinians (of whom I am one). I explicitly said the opposite. Nor was I making an argument about whether violent resistance is ever justified. I was explaining to Danny why his particular post affected me personally (given what my daughter is experiencing), and why some additional commentary may have been appropriate. I don't think you and I need to agree about that.

First thanks for sharing. So the image is from one of those template generators and everyone was making different versions of it all day. It’s a common trope to make the most out of context reference which is what led me to post that. (Aside from my longstanding support of Palestinian freedom given some familial connections to the conflict and general Irish support.) Obviously the cartoon violence of a Nintendo property was not speaking to any wider ideology of mine. If anything it was meant as a ridiculous parody. I’d have done the same if it was Animal Crossing. I literally hadn’t made that connection until you posted this. I wouldn’t make that connection myself given we’re comparing a literal genocide with a meme but I understand that you might be more sensitive and I understand your perspective. Nothing good is coming from this, aside, from my perspective, more Americans are realizing what’s goin on in the region. I’m very sorry about the bullying at school, I hope they have resources to follow up on that for you guys. I have a young girl so can somewhat empathize. My American family has a strong Jewish background too, though they’ve been agnostic for a couple of generations. I appreciate your candor, and I’m happy to speak on it further if ever asked (shoot me a DM if you want to).

Tell your wife you cannot just throw out video game history, its the law!! Great video🤩

Thank you, Danny. Your response genuinely made me feel a lot better. I think I've been carrying around a lot more anger and sadness about what my daughter has been dealing with than I realized, and seeing that post (and not knowing the meme) just happened to be the thing that brought it to the surface. And for myself, the pain that comes with being horrified by what Netanyahu and the Israeli government are doing to the Palestinians, and being identified with those things because I'm Jewish. I am agnostic as well, but was raised to see Israel as a place that represents (I couldn't find a better work) us. And now, it does not. For what it's worth, the fact that I could tell you something had upset me, and you responded by explaining where you were coming from while still taking the time to understand where I was coming from means a lot to me. And I respect the hell out of you for it. Thank you for hearing me out. And thank you for what you said about my daughter. I'm getting her some help both inside and outside of school. I appreciate the invitation to DM you, too. I won't abuse that. Please feel free to do so as well.
