Hey Patrons,

In my post-vaccine brain fog I totally forgot to post this two weeks ago so apologies for the lateness - at least that gave YouTube enough time to render a 4k version. *drum crash*

In this episode I detail some of our 4k render troubles, and the added benefit of having a collaborative edit between myself and Jeremy. Next month's is likely to be RollerCoaster Tycoon episode of Greatest Hits (coming very soon) but we could also make a case for Dishonored so let me know in the comments.

Enjoy the episode, and thanks so much for your support!

Watched in 4K so at least for me it was worth the headaches lol but thank you! Editing on an SSD M1 mac was super fast and not too expensive. Switching from Premiere is daunting but may save a lot of headaches to go with a stable setup. Also for things to see on future edit club, it would be interesting to know how you choose broll and when to use vs show interview.

I'm thrilled that you're so optimistic for the future of the video editing workflow! That's so exciting to hear after you having done this for so many years now. Love the post-mortem aspect and all the little stories and outtakes that were so key to this doc coming together. I'd love to hear a bit about your background with Premiere Pro, and maybe a bit of your history with specific features or plugins you were using. For example, I appreciated that you talked about your use of the Holomatrix effects, and why they ended up not working well on this particular video due to the lack of 4K optimization. More of that, please!

This was such a great video. I'm looking forward to more in the future. I edit on a Mac with Final Cut but we've yet to make the jump to 4K for our film making endeavors. The recording medium we have access to isn't quite fast enough (250 m/s at this point) and it seems like the render times would slow us down too much for it to be worth it. I'm curious what Noclip's decision making process was in making the 4K jump. Thanks! Keep it up!

Finally got around to watching this one. I've been editing in 4K for the past 2 years and still only have 1080 monitors, so I'm just assuming this (and everything I work on) has looked stunning, haha. I can corroborate that Red Giant plug-ins are a tremendous pain in the ass. I've really tried to phase them out over time because they just cause so many problems. There's a brief note about re-aligning captions at ~24 min. I assume this was more an issue of timing (with Megan's move) than of software itself, but if you all, or any patrons coming to this later, are using feature-limited software like Youtube's native caption editing tool, there are alternatives that make retiming large portions of the captions super super simple. The one I use is Sibtitle Edit which I spoke about a bit on the Discord. Anyway, fun as always to see different workflows and hear a little production chat!

Thanks for the note man!
