Hey Patrons!

Here it is, an early look at the very first episode of our brand new show. Greatest Hits was created to help fill two large voids in our focus - classic video games, and community collaboration.

With the help of our Community Production Tier patrons (who even chose the game) we managed to put together a show that explores game design and culture in a broader way than we are able to usually. This episode is packed full of suggestions from our patrons including the interviewees, my rollercoaster building and of course a cameo from Mr. Bones.

This was also a big team effort with Jeremy shooting loads of terrific box shows, Frank capturing gameplay from a half dozen theme park games, and even one of our patrons (shout-out to Dan Silverstone) creating an incredible intro video and accompanying motion graphics.

This cut is 99% complete - there are just a few VO fixes and the music bed drops out for a few seconds near the end. But otherwise it's basically done. So if you have any fact checks or feedback we'd love to hear them right now. Also all our Production Team people have been added to the credits for this episode (and future episode of Greatest Hits) so be sure to check you're in there. I decided to keep them all together so it felt equitable.

And for our Early Access Patrons who are interested, we will be taking suggestions and voting on the second episode's game next week. So consider jumping up to the next tier if you're interested in being involved in the process. Unreal Tournament and Age of Empires II were close last week, but we're gonna be taking more suggestions too.

We hope you enjoy the show. Let us know what you think!

Danny

PS: I'm half way through editing this month's Location Scout. Sorry for the delay, I filmed almost 4 hours exploring the northern Californian coast so it's taking a while. It'll be done soon but I figure this took priority.

[Early Access Cut] RollerCoaster Tycoon | Greatest Hits

The line about making this doc *for* Chris made me happy (almost shed a tear, not gonna lie). And that intro! The whole concept worked out so well – congrats to Danny & the Team.

Dan Silverstone

Absolutely brilliant. Love the note about the simplicity. Planet Coaster is great but you have to be really bloody good and invested to get anywhere in it. RCT2 was complex but much more accessible – definitely one of the greatest hits :) Can't wait for the rest of these. 👍🏽

Andrew Rackstraw

Just a note - the thanks screen at 34:23 says "Our sincere thanks to the 6,14 people..." - think you're missing a digit there! :D Otherwise, great stuff!

W. Fry

I caught that as well. Also, fulfill is spelled incorrectly in the Eurogamer interview section.

Ĵǿŋ

A few errors I noticed, but others pointed them out earlier. I loved the doc, enjoyed it a lot! Great work!

Steve Fiori

Yay! Watching it in a bit.

Kenzo Yasuda

Does the intro/outro song have a name? It's pretty damn slick

bombardactyl

Wonderful video! I'm a bit sad that Chris couldn't be reached directly for an interview but we can definitely understand why he stays as private as he is from the tumultuous history, so it's not very surprising. I think you've 100% found the real story of the people growing up with the games he's made and touched picking up the baton and giving the genre its second wind and that's infinitely more valuable than "hey we got to chat to Chris!"

bombardactyl

I had the same emotions and I really hope he sees it! The Tycoon games were and still are a big part of my life.

TheWirv

looks amazing in 4k, Danny

Björn Vahle

Really a great reminder, why you're so worth supporting, Danny. Loved the doc, lots of memories! Can't wait to hear that intro again on episode #02! 👌

Riccardo Margiotta

Offt, what are you doing to me with that intro, Danny... I have been punched right in the nostalgia. Well done on getting the first one out!

David Kidger

Fantastic episode to kick off this new series - fab intro too. The journey through to your final thoughts felt like a perfect summary of the feelings around the series. Let's hope that Chris takes a look at it at some point :)

Raina Elmore

That intro is phenomenal! I loved this, it was such a cool nostalgia trip for someone who grew up playing RCT1&2 but hadn't really kept up with the series since then. Excited to see what's next!

Dustin K Gluvna

One of my favorite games of all time. Seriously. Loved the doc. Only notes I have are those that have already been brought up! Can't wait to vote on the next one!

Slein

And just like that I am once again installing RCT2 and downloading OpenRCT2....

B&L

Absolutely fantastic and exactly the kind of content I want from NoClip. I might well increase my sub again to be involved with the picking and production of these!

Fantastic work, Danny! Thanks so much for this. I remember playing RCT2 in internet cafes in Bulgaria when I was about 10. I was obsessed with this game and the fact it enabled me to express myself in such an unexpected way. Looking forward to more Noclip videos on retro games. "Greatest Hits" is sure to become one of my favorite series ever. Best regards, Peter

Andrew McMillan

Absolutely masterful work Noclip team! The way you guys handle docs without creator involvement, and the messaging and wrap up of the overall theme of the doc really is superb. The moment you mention that the Doc is perhaps for Chris Sawyer is just so good. Thanks for another amazing doc!

We heard this one a bunch and I just went to check (because I copy/pasted the quote) and the 2 L spelling is an American thing. Both are correct!

dmaurath

If not too late, I spotted two typos near the end. The Chris Sawyer quote says “fulfil” instead of “fulfilled” and patron count was missing a number, think it’s just 6,14 in the video. Now that those are out of the way, wanted to say I loved the intro with the model coaster and overall use of props. Great start to greatest hits!

Xin Bin

That intro was ‘effin sick. I felt like the bits with Marcel were a bit slow/dry, but that might just be because I don’t care too much for RCT. I can’t wait for more of these though.

Rui Nóbrega

Another great documentary. Thank you Danny. The intro is bl@@dy great.
