Sorry, i can't agree with the take on the parents. Having some rules is fine, but rushing to stereotype as the first thing you say upon being told your son is in a relationship shows they have shitty priorities. I feel like many people try to excuse Charlie's parents missteps, probably because we expect a certain amount of abuse from parent figures. Which is a shame. I think we can understand missteps without eliding them.

Right, having lines is fine. Skipping immediately to "Nick doesn't look gay" is not. Try to keep up. They could also complete a paragraph of positive sentiment before expressing rules.

I posted and deleted because I might have worded too strongly the dislike I have for Charlie’s mom. Reallllllly don’t like her. And as a mom of 19 & 20 year old sons I feel safe in my assessment. 😍

At this point, we have only a taste. But i think what people miss is they think the audience overreacts to her expressing rules. But her problems are many, including poor emotional regulation, poor impulse control, and a pervasive emotional neglect. The last is really the most damaging.

Right. Having all of those issues herself and then raising a teen who has been bullied and I won’t spoil it but other severely serious issues. So I can imagine she’s super overprotective. They’re messy, just like any other family, nobody can escape!!

Also in the graphic novel, Nick is a bit bigger than Charlie and I think Kit felt like he needed to up his game between season 1 and 2 and he definitely put in the work

Thanks so much for reacting to this show. It brings me such immense pleasure to watch someone fall in love with something I love so deeply. Heartstopper is so special. I am both envious and grateful that this generation of queer kids has something that I could have only imagined in my wildest dreams. This is the most comforting hug disguised as a simple tv show! I thank Alice Oseman everyday for their gift to all of us. Sometimes the universe allows for a little magic and I'm eternally grateful that they shared their specialness and art with the world.

My favorite characters are kind of different from most peoples: Nick, Imogen, and Tori. I was Nick back in the 1980s, but was way too much of a coward to ever look for my own Charlie and hide my entire life, until I finally came out @ 47 in 2018. This show made me feel things I thought I never would and healed wounds I felt would always be and woke a part of my soul that I didn't even know was there. I cried for 2 solid hours after episode 3 (Kiss) and it's still my favorite because I had never witness anything on television even remotely as touching.

I loved this episode so much - but yes we need to suspend disbelief a bit that it’s supposed to start the next day 😅 I think there was like a year break between filming. Nick and Imogen’s friendship is adorable, I’m so so glad they got over what happened last season <3 And my two fav characters are also Nick and Elle! Do you ever read fanfiction? I recently came across a really beautiful one where Elle and Nick became friends while Elle was still at Truham before her transition (since they’re in the same year group and would have shared classes) and how that would have changed things: https://archiveofourown.org/works/71650281/chapters/186529096 Most of it is about season 1 plot stuff, but it might be better if you wait until you’ve finished season 2, just to be safe.

Yes, Alice wrote her first novel at age 17 about Tori, in which Nick and Charlie are an established couple already, but loved both of them and their relationship so much that she created heartstopper kind of as their “origin story”!
