I guess Bob didn’t like EPiC as much as I did.

Sometimes you just gotta say,"NO." to 'Viva Las Vegas' and yes ..to the black and white Love Me Tender.. regardless of the mention of ICBM's etcetera..

Adam Selzer

Wish there was a hypothetical date for this letter never written. Early 70s maybe? Similar to some of the Viva Las Vegas sentiments in Philosphy of Modern Song: the house always wins.

Elizabeth Bowie

Both men had something in common. Lauren Bacall of the Bronx was 19 when Bogart asked her for her phone number ( which she gave). They were married until he passed away. Priscilla Beaulieu was 14 when she met Elvis Presley. Her father allowed her to go out with him only with a chaperone present. So they both liked very young females, and went on to marry them. And Bogart is so right with his sentiments in this letter.

Thank you, Sir. This is a thought provoking letter. I loved Elvis’s heart, and am not sure that I would agree with Mr. Bogart. But, I will implode if I don’t stop and say that you were awesome in Spartanburg last night! The performance, song choices and arrangements … I loved it all. I thought it was perfect. Was sad for it to be over. Thank you … I appreciate you and your band. Praying for you always ~ may God bless 🕊️

Letters Never Sent: Woody Guthrie to Bob Dylan Hey Bobby, I’ve been looking out across the miles, watching you work that "Patreon" patch of land. It’s a fine thing to see a man having a direct line to the folks who listen—no middleman in a high hat taking the cream off the top. It’s like passing the hat around the campfire, honest and true. But I heard a whisper that you’ve been letting one of those "AI" machines help you write the posts you send out to the people. Now, Bobby, I’m just an old guitar-picker, but I’ve got to tell you, that’s a dangerous trail to start down. A song or a letter is a handshake between two souls. When a man pays his hard-earned nickels to hear what’s on your mind, he’s looking for the dirt under your fingernails and the specific way your heart beats against your ribs. If you hand him something cooked up by a box of wires and math, you’re handing him a ghost. You’re giving him a plastic orange when he’s hungry for the fruit off the tree. These machines, they can mimic the way you talk, sure. They can string together the "thees" and "thous" and the lonesome highway talk until it looks just like a Dylan original. But it’s a counterfeit coin. It didn't come from a man who’s stayed up all night wondering where the world is headed. It came from a vacuum tube that doesn't know the difference between a lullaby and a layoff notice. The danger of using that stuff on your Patreon ain't just that it’s lazy. The danger is that it makes the truth feel cheap. If the folks who love your music start wondering if they’re reading you or just a ghost in the machine, the bond is broken. And once that trust is gone, you’re just another salesman hawking shiny trinkets. Keep your pen in your own hand, Bobby. Let the ink smudge. Let the grammar be wrong if it has to be. Just make sure it’s you. The people don't want a perfect machine; they want a living, breathing, struggling human being. Don't let the chrome-plated shadows do your talking for you. You’ve got too much to say to let a calculator say it. Take it easy, but take it. Your friend, Woody Guthrie

The first sensation I get when reading these letters never sent is a kind of thrill... I'm moved because they are authentic... because they have a heart beating inside... the letters are brilliant, surprising, rich, and reflect their authors so well... but, above all, they are true... this is Bob's signature.

dear mr bogart, i do appreciate that swift kick up the fancy-pants. if i heard you right, it sounds like i need to: 1) fire my handlers 2) find my balls 3) dig deep in the glitter-pile to find a Truth worth defending. hope i got that right. i welcome your sage wisdom any time, sir. by the way, i'm a big fan. Love, elvis 🤍

Amber Martinez

I mean… it’s literally the perfect thing to say if you’re trying to help someone🙌🏽🖤✨ Elvis really coulda used a firm hand around to help steer him towards a healthier more lasting direction.

Wise words. Wisdom from the grave.

The biggest difference between Bob Dylan and the rest of the singer song writers is the way he tells a story and conveys the emotion. Anyone with ears and a heart could Feel ! Elvis Presley sang Tomorrow is a long time , may have been one of the greatest recorded covers of Bob Dylan’s songs ever . I am sure Bob Thoughts so and with good reason . But me , I personally think Bob’s version Couldn’t be touched simply beautiful absolutely stunning . It’s not what you say or do , it’s how you make them feel . People will always remember how you make them feel.♥️

How might Elvis have responded? ChatGPT suggests this: Dylan’s imagined Elvis response is playful and slightly irreverent. The tone is roughly: • Respectful on the surface (“I admire your pictures…”) • But gently dismissive of Bogart’s criticism • Confident that rock ’n’ roll isn’t a fad • Suggesting Bogart is out of step with the times

Dylan DoVale

“Make people feel uncomfortable once in a while”. Favorite line.

If only this had been a letter that was sent

Unsent reply from Elvis to Bogey: My mama said don't say nothing if might make a man feel more lonely than he already is, so I'm a gonna say nothing. cept we all cant be you, we got fears and worries down to our toes, i seen stuff that would make you rescinde some of your missive. You trying to goat me. Man, step a toe in my foot. You dont know me. E

Suzanne

That was VERY important advice in that terrific letter. Thanks for sharing, Bob.
