Disney/Pixar's Cars is Weirder Than I Thought | A Rust-eze Review

Gotta agree with you on this, AniMat, except for a few things. I am a huge fan of racing and cars in general, so I had a stronger feeling for the movie than you probably did. Another thing you failed to mention in the video is the all-star cast, which includes highly notable actors like Owen Wilson, Cheech Marin, Paul Newman, and Larry the Cable Guy. The movie also dropped easter egg characters like a car version of Jay Leno and Arnold Schwarzenegger. You should have mentioned that a bit more in the character section. Plus, the awesome soundtrack. Songs were written or covered specifically for this movie, so it almost could be called a musical on the same level as Tarzan or the Toy Story Franchise

To answer that, EH... Still better then most cartoons about Cars, I remember one that they made for kids called AutoBGood which almost the same thing but with morals. another made from Aardman for Chevron cars, and yes those Disney cartoons. But none are a definitive as of Pixar's version. And I think it's a decent franchise. Maybe not so great sequels but not the worst either. Even today I still think it's only Okay.

I know it’s not the best animated film from the studio, but at least you can tell there was still some effort from the crew to ensure there’s still some substance like the animation, voice performances, score, and research and detail that went into elements like the racing and Route 66 as well as the build of the cars themselves and how they move like their real life vehicles would move if they came to life. Nonetheless, like I say, even if it is the weakest, it is still a PIXAR film and nothing can change that. Although I’ll defend this film regarding how people, especially Schaffrillas and Doug Walker criticize the concept of living cars. I know it’s a strange concept… but then again many films and shows have had concepts equally stranger and nobody criticizes those! So let me get this straight guys: A world of anthropomorphic cars is strange, but a show with humanized turtles fighting as ninjas isn’t? Or films like Big, Home Alone, Groundhog Day, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Kung Fu Panda don’t sound ridiculous on paper!? If we can put up with movies and shows with weird premises like those, then we can also put up with an animated film of anthropomorphic cars!

And the fact that they had the Pizza Planet Truck come to life at LA International Speedway near the end of the show.

When it comes to my thoughts of the first film, at best it is just good and probably the best of the whole movie trilogy in my opinion. When I was a kid, I used to play with cars, not the movie version by the way, a lot and by the time movie came out alongside with in getting invested with NASCAR racing, I was fit enough to be the right target audience to watch it, but on dvd as I think didn’t see it in theaters from what I remember. After that, I watched it a few times growing up until I grew out of it once the second film came out which I did see and it sucked, but I did enjoy the Cars 2 game though right? Soon I didn’t care much about the franchise afterwards including sequels which again the second film was crap while third was just okay. I didn’t see the shorts outside of the Ghostlight short but I would love to see how the Cars land ride goes after hearing some good things if I have a chance. Back to the first film, the only thing that good were the animation despite being weird at times, racing scenes, voice acting, some characters like Mater and Doc Hudson, the location of Radiator Springs, and some NASCAR cameos despite haven’t watch that sport in years. Also the soundtrack like the new song take of Life is a Highway and Real Gone were good too that is worth memorable to listen too. For criticisms, yeah most of the characters were forgettable including Lightning McQueen being unlikable, the weak plot it has along with poor writing, and again some uncomfortable aspects given that Lasseter was the director of this movie so it makes sense why it not as strong as some other Pixar films including during the 2000s decade when Pixar was making an acclaim film to another. Overall, I guess you could it a nostalgia trip to me as I think it still the best compared to the sequels that was released years later. It not great but not bad either for the most part.

The most interesting part of the franchise will always be the world and not in a good way. Rule applies to the first film, a big old ehhh okay.

Well that was a Nice review Personally the only reason I would've love this movie was Paul Newman's Last Performance like many kids I didn't know who he was until I told my mom & she showed her favorite movie from Paul & Robert Redford "The Sting" not did that become my favorite too but it got me into some of the classic films he made. All & all my ranking for the three "Cars" movies from best to worst would be 1. Cars 3 2. Cars 3. Cars 2, now that Cars is done good luck on Coonskin I like the movie too but I'm afraid to p*$ off the wrong group

Yeah, definitely not one of Pixar’s best, but not a terrible movie by any means. I’d still rather watch this or it’s sequels instead of their terrible spinoff movies. I haven’t seen Coonskin in a while, but I am looking forward to the review. Plus it’s always nice to see a review of a favorite movie from the reviewer.

I went and saw the first Cars in theaters when it was coming out and from what I remembered, I was really lukewarm on wanting to watch this move. The reason why was because I was at that point where I was really dying to want to watch the latest Pixar movie. And the concept in how it was selling it with the teaser trailers and premise was not something that wanted me to see it as heavily as I wanted it to. But now that I am older and look at Cars when it was released, I felt that it was a decent film that lead to more great success with Pixar within the rest of the decade they were making movies. It was one of the films that started two things for Pixar. It was the start of a new with Disney when the studio was bought by the company after going from Eisner to Iger. And the second was that it was a second showing of the leading directors at the time to prove that they can give something better than what each of them showed from their last film (except for Lee Unkrich which was his first lead directing duty when he did Toy Story 3) as a way to close out the 2000 decade with a bang. As for the movie itself, I do agree with what you said Mat about your criticisms in regard to the story and characters. Cause now that you mention it, I did have a problem with McQueen's introduction when the movie started. And the thing that did become a problem now that I can remember it was the comedy. It's not that I disliked the comedy, I did get a few good laughs but then there are some jokes/gags that I look back and either find a bit cringe or found okay and didn't laugh. But as for McQueens character arc, even though the beginning was rough, it did get better afterwards when it reached the Piston cup to the end. Now for the next Classic review, I can't wait. From hearing what you said about which Ralph Bakshi films you like, I'm either going to guess, Fritz the Cat, American Pop, or Coonskin. Which if it is the latter, I hope you handle with care cause it is a very touchy film if not handled correctly can lead to backlash.

Cars was actually a childhood favorite of mine and I remember buying a lot of the toys of the characters. So in a way, even if it might not be Pixar is the best work, I still enjoy the movie in my opinion

Nario

I will say one thing I disagree with is the characters. I think McQueen’s development feels genuine and the good deeds he does outweigh his previous jerkish behavior, the Radiator Springs residents are all charming in their own ways and as you said in the review, Doc is probably the most interesting character in the film. Also Chick Hicks despite being one dimensional is hilarious imo
