The History of Disney's Craziest Premiere: The Pinocchio Incident

How eleven little people turned a family-friendly premiere into one of the most unforgettable drunken parties in New York City

While it great to see the history moments video is back, but I didn’t know about that incident until now and from the looks of it, yeah that sounds bad. So… don’t give them alcohol next time for big premieres?

Justin Monti

I’m not gonna lie, I had never heard of this incident before this video, but after watching this video, this is honestly just insane, the fact that these people ended up getting drunk because of being in those Pinocchio costumes for too long and the only drink around was just alcohol is just insane, seriously it honestly feels no different from how some of the kids in the movie got completely drunk on Pleasure Island, except somehow this is still less horrifying.

Also set aside time for your dwarfs to take breaks from being up on the roof of the Centre Theatre so they’re more refreshed, nourished and well hydrated.

This incident makes me glad I’m not a beer or wine person. Soda, water and juice will be my sources of liquid sustenance. Also, the scene in Dumbo where Timothy and Dumbo accidentally get drunk definitely is more disturbing now with this history fact and the way you described how alcohol effects a person’s mind if they don’t get other nutrition sources like food and water.

You think that's bad Disney after party for Snow White was the last time he learned to never cheat his staff out of a raise (in Art Babbitt's words)

Alan Oliva

To think you would've gotten that info from Disney Dan, He actually made a whole video of that incident too. Then again to give you credit, I felt like I learn more about alcohol then I did in science class. To say In your words (With a few alterations) "I don't know about you, but your video here does a better job then any school campaign to tell me I should never Drink." But it goes to show the 40s were really the time period when people did whatever they want, racist jokes, humor that are more outdated then funny, and consume whatever they like.

Wait, Devon as in Devon that was on your podcast a few times? Cool!

Hunter O'Laughlin

I feel more bad for Dumbo and Timothy now consuming that bottle of champagne that fell into Dumbo’s drinking pail. Starting to see some eerie parallels between the circus clowns and the dwarfs playing Pinocchio at the Center Theater.

Trenton Girone

Until today, I thought Center Theatre was the original name for Radio City Music Hall, only to learn via Wikipedia it was meant as a smaller sister to the latter. No wonder they looked so similar. Now I know.

Also, Pinocchio was actually the last film shown there, before it was torn down in the 1950’s.

This is one crazy drunk story I have ever heard. This will go in my top three drunken stories, next to where the little people who where cast in The Wizard of Oz had a similar moment claiming they had drunken orgies (this was mentioned to me by my Music professor and I checked it out but it is claimed to be a rumor but that is just it, A RUMOR), and 10 cent beer night with the Cleveland Indians.
