I’m so happy you finally got around to reviewing this. I love this movie, I personally consider this as my personal favorite Don Bluth animated films and one of the most emotional animated films I’ve ever seen, the story is really well done and extremely emotional, the animation is really well done and does a great job bringing these dinosaurs and the world they live in to life, and the characters are really memorable and really well done, overall The Land Before Time is a fantastic animated film and one of Don Bluth's best animated films and one thing you can’t deny is that this would become a major franchise and a huge money maker for Universal in the Direct to DVD department with all those sequels and the TV series and personally while I enjoy some of those sequels they just feel unnecessary and overstayed its welcome, but that’s a story for another day, I’m honestly not sure what the next classic review is but it should be interesting.

I always forget Diana Ross did a song for the film. Man it holds up mighty well after all this years, the film I mean

It’s strange that out of all The Land Before Time films I watched during my childhood, the original ironically would be the last one I’d watch. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve seen this and considering yours and other positive reviews, I might check this out again. And as for my guess to what your next Classic Review will be, I’m guessing it’s Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, the only animated film from last year you didn’t review. Even if it’s not, it’s nice to see the streak of you reviewing good animated films still going.

Kim Lechman

Mmm I don’t think so. Remember when he said it was an independent animated feature that became so popular, it got a sequel? Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is too recent for that. I do hope he reviews it one day, but I don’t think that’s the one.

Hey Mat, I hope you enjoyed your vacation. But with The Land Before Time, I do enjoy the feature for what it brings. I did see some of those sequels after the original and there are a few that are okay to ehh. I'm excited that the next one is Earnest and Celestine, and it will be interesting to hear your take on it.

Great review Animat. The Land Before Time was probably my favorite Don Bluth feature growing up. Looking back on this animated classic, I love it nowadays for its animation and visual style, especially when the Sharptooth is on screen. I'll admit, I use to be a big Land Before Time fan for watching almost every direct to video sequel it had, with the exception of 6 and 14. Oh, and I also watched the tv series that aired on Cartoon Network. Man, so many memories as a kid came from this franchise alone. But if I'm being honest, the original is obviously the best one in series.

Kenneth Stoddard

To be honest, I don’t grew up with the franchise. I seen TV series and the original only. For this movie, it is definitely hands down one of Don Bluth best films. It been a long time since I seen it but at least it way better than all the direct to home media sequels that Universal Pictures kept churning it throughout the years. But yeah I can’t comment much other than it great as I’m too busy with other things in my life now with work and all but yeah, definitely worth watching it.

It really is odd that the sequels were really musicals afterwards and I have two theories on how and why their musicals format came in the first place. A. The '90s are really involved within those types of films, cause keep in mind Disney was doing a Renaissance and " All Movies needed to be a musical adventure in the success of Disney" Or B. (And possibly a dumb reason) to have the success of based on another musical dinosaur series: Barney. Keep in mind Barney was really popular around the '90, so if seeing that series probably inspired the idea to turn the Land Before time into a musical franchise for older kids. It may not be likely, but it does seem too much like a coincidence.
