I’m back from my vacation, but the wild events did not end there. While my vacation was wonderful and made some of my happiest memories with my family in recent years, I returned to the biggest power outage that the province of Quebec had ever seen since the 1998 ice storm (In fact, reports say that, at its peak, over 1.1 million households lost power). I spent almost 2 days without electricity, which caused a major delay in my work, which really sucked because there was a lot ahead of me when I returned like the Mario review. It was beyond my control, but for now, I’m doing what I can to get back on track. So here’s what’s been happening during my week with videos.

- Released my review of The Land Before Time: This was one of the animated films I went and reviewed before I headed out to my vacation (which was why I was able to have this released while I don’t have any access to my computer). With its very short running time and simple concept, there wasn’t a whole lot that I coyld talk about compared to the complexities featured in Coonskin. However, I still did what I can to put out all of my thoughts onto the film and sprinkle in a bit of humor and silly ideas to make it entertaining. That could be a whole idea in itself to look at The Land Before Time as a whole franchise and how the sequels differ compared to the original, but that would be for another time. But for now, having the original is still nice and there’s no denying that it is the best of the bunch, along with being one of Don Bluth’s best works that really can be powerful with the emotions. It was a nice movie, and I had a nice time doing the review. Now with that one done, the next film I’ll be looking at is Ernest and Celestine. I’ve heard many great things about this one, yet I’ve never had the opportunity to watch it myself. This is why I love doing these reviews, because they allow me to discover movies that I normally wouldn’t have the spare time to check out myself!

- Currently working on my review of The Super Mario Bros. Movie: On the day after I made it back home, I had to go and check out one of my most anticipated features of the year. As a Mario fan, I’ve been excited for this movie for a while, and every announcement they make about it on the Nintendo Direct just builds up my hype. Granted, there are a few things that give me a bit of doubt like casting Chris Pratt as Mario, but the rest I’ve seen from the trailers like the animation and easter eggs had me all excited to see this on the big screen. I’ll admit that I was surprised to see the other reviews coming out more negative than I expected and it’s causing a clash between fans and critics, but we’ll see next week where I will put myself in this whole debate. On a side note, while I was very lucky to see the movie a few hours before the power outage happened, it did cause a big delay on the production of my review. Thankfully, with the power back on, I can get back to work and will have this prepared for next week. I’m sure this will be one that many will highly anticipate as much as the movie itself.

So that was my week of going from the Happiest Place on Earth to the Darkest Place on Earth (at night. Seriously, it gets pitch black and unusually quiet in my neighborhood with no power). All I want now is just to get my work done so that I can properly settle back in my home and have a moment of peace without experiencing any crazy moments happening one after another. But until that time comes…

See ya later, dudes!

It might be worth mentioning a few key points from your “Why Illumination Is Good” editorial due to how some ‘professional critics’ (e.g. Brian Tallerico of Rogerebert.com) continue giving the company flack for their one-trick pony philosophy.

I hope you had a good vacation Mat, and I am sorry that you had to deal with the power outage when you got back.
