Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness Review | This Movie was SO CLOSE to Being Great

I’m not sure I needed to see that thumbnail today

Justin Monti

Personally I never really heard of this movie before this, and after watching this review, this movie honestly doesn’t seem like it’s for me. While it has great stuff in it like great animation, solid voice acting and interesting ideas, the biggest issue is the story and characters are so poorly done to the point where it does kinda overshadow the good elements, honestly while I wouldn’t say this is a terrible movie, it’s definitely a hard pass for me. So the next classic review is The Secret of Nimh 2: Timmy to the Rescue, a really bad direct to video sequel that is a complete disgrace to the original.

“Wow! That’s a pretty big butt!” - (Finding Nemo) Sorry, I couldn’t resist quoting that when I saw the thumbnail. I’m like you where I’m not familiar with the Chickenhare graphic novel series, but I’m not interested in checking this out since it appears to be a bland and generic kids’ adventure film from the execution of the final film. Then again, I’m not surprised by how the quality of the final turned out given most films with production delays and spending limbo in development hell don’t turn out that great. I’ll give it that it is cool that an animator requested you to review this. It’s great that you’re getting people with legit experience in the animation industry with feature films and shows watching your content and now making requests on your Patreon to review animated films. Hopefully, you get more requests from animators. As for the next Classic Review, all I can say I am sorry that you’re about to review something you’ve watched in your AniMat Watches and is a sequel to a film you love. It is definitely similar to what you went through with Beauty and the Beast: Belle’s Magical World and hopefully the next review AFTER that will be either a great/good or decent at best animated film…. I and your fans hope.

Never seen of it but I have heard it and still haven’t watched it as of right now. Although I didn’t know it was developed over at Sony Animation at the time before it was scrapped and picked by another studio instead upon learning this. Since I seen the review of it, it does looked like a mixed bag where half of it is good and half of it is bad. I don’t think I’ll be caring all that much into watching it as this is a skip if you ask me. But oh boy, he now gonna do review on to a movie that I know of and seen it throughout AniMat Watches and this is gonna make things interesting. One more thing, “Oh my God, look at her butt!”- (Anaconda- Nicki Minaj). I had to do that because that thumbnail is gonna make people either a laugh, disgust, or probably arouse but I think it gonna be the latter.

I'll say truthfully, just by the concept alone I thought this film was going to be flat out Terrible! Like one of those extreme bootleg ripoff films in the style of Ratatoing, Zoo Wars, ect... Yet I'm amazed that as badly generic as is, it's not completely hopeless. For what it has it's enough to salvage and may retail some quality for an audience. And also to say I kinda like this "Scar" ripoff. He really does has the feel of intimidation as a threatening villain, who know I think I might like it.

Oh no😖.. Not the secret of Nimh 2

For your next review, I thought you were gonna do the original but oh God(!) this one is gonna hurt.

I still don’t get what the next classic review will be.

I don’t blame you for quoting that. That is honestly one of my all-time favorite quotes from Finding Nemo! Not to mention that finding Nemo is also one of my all-time favorite movies.

Gerry McGrory

Thanks very much for the shoutout and for taking my review request! Much appreciated! I enjoyed the review a whole lot and I agree with a great deal of it! ^^

“When a rabbit and a chicken love each other very, very much-“ Is that how the movie explained it, Mat?

Hunter O'Laughlin

Mine too! Can’t believe it’s already 20 years old! I’m old enough to remember when it was fresh and new in theaters.
