While I'm not fully healed from my surgery, this week has primarily been about recovering myself. The good news is that this week went a lot better than the last. There were no complications that occurred and I only went to the hospital to have a checkup. I still have a bit of a swollen throat, which prevents me to do my regular routine and eat anything I want again, but I'm still doing all I can to take care of myself, including drinking water and having regular naps. While my health is still my top priority, I still put in some effort to work so that get that energy kickstarted again. With that said, here's how my week has been.
- Released my review of Muppets Tonight: This was a review I did a little while back and actually well timed too, since it was around the time I released Part 5 of Animation Lookback: The Muppets where I talked about Muppets Tonight. It was honestly an intriguing show with the way that there are parts where it's recognizably The Muppet Show, but some of the updates are not as strong. Plenty of the modernized elements are now pretty dated with the whole 1990s aesthetic, but especially, the jokes are hit and miss. Sure, the structure of the show is a bit too chaotic, even by Muppet standards, but the real make-or-break deal was the comedy, and while there were some that are enjoyable and help the episode be fun, the series can frequently have a large set of duds. The most interesting part, however, is seeing the new additions to the Muppets cast and the personalities are easily the best part of the show like with Bobo, Pepe, Johnny & Sal, and more. However, as a Muppet fan, while I do like some episodes like the Whoopi Goldberg one, this is not their best work. A valiant effort to get that spirit back not long after the passing of Jim Henson, but they certainly put on better shows.
- Released my review of Disney's Robin Hood: I figured with all the new releases I had to cover for this month, this was a good time to go and put out two videos to have a double-dose of retro content (that and at least it does help to cover how YouTube is very strict with the copyright of Robin Hood that I"m still trying to take care of). With that said, while I'll admit that this one is not really among my favorite Disney movies, I can see the charm and some elements that are worth loving. The animation is self explanatory with the mastercraftsmanship put into it, but it's more with the characters that made this film a timeless classic, featuring some of the strongest personalities given to these characters. I won't be going to this one if I need a good dose of Disney magic, but this is one that's worth seeing for a simple good time. As for my next review, this will be a real interesting one, as I will be looking into The Pebble and the Penguin. Been quite a long time since I've seen this one, but I know that '90s Don Bluth films always make very interesting topics of discussions.
- Putting Myself back to Normal: Because of my second surgery last week, it unfortunately prolonged the healing process of my tonsillectomy. They technically say that an adult can fully recover from it after around 2 weeks, but now I'll need an extra week in order to achieve full recovery. However, the healing process is going much better than before and it allows me to start getting back to do my regular routine such as eating more food (as long as they're not hard) and slowly getting back to exercising. It's to slowly develop that energy I had before to get me back to working and produce more videos. I will admit that I didn't make a lot of progress and some parts can be very challenging like doing some recordings (which did hurt my throat a bit). But the important thing is that I have to start somewhere so that, when I do have more energy, it'll give me more motivation to make more videos. I'm hoping that I'm at the end of healing because I really want to replace the swelling with more time to work.
- Currently working on my review of The Monkey King (2023): While the other stuff I did this week were small, this will give me a big push to get me back to working again as I heal. There's a part of me that's excited for this. Not because of the movie itself (the trailer makes this look very lackluster), but because this will be the first post-surgery video that I will make. This will give me something to keep my mind focused and a fresh reminder of making videos again instead of constantly worrying about when will this whole process end. By the time I'll have this video done, I'll make me more prepared than ever to get back into the other projects that have been waiting for me.
- REMINDER FOR PATRONS $50+/MONTH: This month's Discord Chat will be happening on Thursday the 24th at 8pm EST. Let me know if you're not available for either so I'll organize a quick chat at a different time.
So that was my week of healing and slowly returning to my old self again. This is not entirely over yet, but I know that most of it is over and I can't wait for the day to come when I won't have to worry about my throat anymore. Give it a few more days and the old AniMat you all know and love will be back stronger than ever! So, until next time...
See ya later, dudes!
